The other thread filled up really quickly, with exciting talk of laundry, mattress toppers and lost property.

Here's where the rest of them settle in, get through freshers and the work gets serious.

OP posts:

I thought your DS had a diagnosis now Ono or am I misremembering it? Either way, I hope he recovers quickly this time. It must be a worry for you.

BestIsWest · 03/10/2017 15:49

BigBlue your DS is not the only one not to have contacted disability support. DS apparently wasn't even aware he needed to and 'will get around to it this week'.

Ono hope he's better.

fairyofallthings · 03/10/2017 15:53

dingit I had that problem at school - they had those chairs with a wider arm attached to rest your exercise book on. All of them were for right handed people and I was told to "make do" - which I did by kneeling on the floor with the arm to my left. Great way to do your exams Shock

Hopefully better provision is made nowadays.

fairyofallthings · 03/10/2017 15:53

ONO I hope that your DS is much better now, just caught up on the thread.

rogueantimatter · 03/10/2017 16:04

Oh my ono! I hope your DS is better asap.

I managed to not message DS yesterday except to share a fb post which he seemed to appreciate. DD seems to get the same type of minimal response from him that I get mind you she's probably as baggy as me

Horsemad · 03/10/2017 16:55

That sounds scary ono, I hope he is well on the way to recovering now Cake

DS has received his parcel, he was thrilled Grin

BackforGood · 03/10/2017 17:28

Thanks Oldie.
Oh no! ONO - although, probably a good place to be what with the QE hosptiatl being on the same site as the University Smile
Eve - 'Poker' was in the list of clubs my dd joined at Freshers Hmm Grin

simbobs · 03/10/2017 19:15

Sorry to hear that other's dc have been having a tough time. I still haven't heard a peep from dd but am working on the principle that no news is good news.

ono40 · 03/10/2017 19:23

DS has been discharged at last but with a referral to the Liverpool Hospital for Tropical Medicine. He had a previous diagnosis of brucellosis but still has antibodies to it so the 6 weeks of antibiotics that he had may not have worked. He was most annoyed at not being able to spend two days' worth of his meal plan due to being in hospital so I told him to go mad in Costa and buy up all the cakes Grin

BehindTheBlueDoor · 03/10/2017 19:34

Good news he's been discharged Ono but how frightening for you all. Hope they get to a diagnosis and appropriate treatment regime soon. In the meantime, cake is a good substitute.

Haffdonga · 03/10/2017 20:57

Oh no Ono and get well soon Ono ds. Flowers

QOD · 03/10/2017 21:06

Glad he’s doing ok Ohno!

lazydog · 03/10/2017 22:31

Hope they can get him fit and healthy again very soon ono40

GreenPolishToGo · 03/10/2017 22:38

Best wishes to you and DS Ono. How very frightening for you. I hope the cake spree cheers him up.

BestIsWest · 03/10/2017 22:45

Hope they get to the bottom of it Ono.

BestIsWest · 03/10/2017 23:05

DS has been elected course rep. He’s chuffed. No idea what it entails. He’s always been good at talking though.

lazydog · 04/10/2017 05:30

Congrat's to your ds Best - that is great! (Or at least it sounds like it must be great - I also have no idea what it entails Grin )

simbobs · 04/10/2017 09:58

I think it means that all the other students direct their comments/complaints to him and that he has to be their mouthpiece. Well done, though.

BestIsWest · 04/10/2017 10:18

Yeah, I think that’s it. Wonder what he’s let himself in for.

Needmoresleep · 04/10/2017 11:03

DS ended up in a similar role in his third year, which co-incided with some sort of major departmental review. It meant that he did get involved in some interesting things with senior people, but also meant that he had to convey some quite sensitive student concerns about particular courses. Not easy.

We have had a few ups and downs, mainly the result of sharing with 18 year old strangers. Kitchen stuff used and broken, middle of the night fire-alarm, a spat about a shared bathroom, some life-style conflicts, nothing major and no social bridges burnt. What has been nice has been that she has downloaded to us, rather than respond in the heat of the moment. Good , especially as one came in the form of a nasty text incorrectly accusing DD of something she did not do. The gap year has made a huge difference and DD confirmed that the text sender was away from home for the first time and a bit of a princess. DD did not respond but sorted the problem instead, and who knows, they may end up being friends.

It helps that they are getting into the routine of University life. First varsity fixture today, first GP placement tomorrow. Her first test was on Monday and she did fine. A relief as there is always the fear that however good you were at school you might find yourself trailing at the bottom of a University cohort. I hope others are starting to settle as well.

ono40 · 04/10/2017 11:21

Just catching up and reading earlier posts.

Ladyincement what did you say to the lady in Waitrose who said your face looked like you'd had an iron on it? You should've smacked her one and said 'snap'!

I'm also remembering the rage when the person in front of you in the phone queue got their mum to ring them back! Anyone else remember BT phonecards and the scam you could do to make them not use any money (it never seemed to work for me)?

Congrats to your DS best

LittleHo · 04/10/2017 11:24

Silence from dd so I cracked and sent her a text saying 'Are you happy?'

Got an immediate answer 'Very!!! xxx'

Horsemad · 04/10/2017 11:30

Can't ask for more than that Littleho!Smile

LittleHo · 04/10/2017 11:37

Yes. Smile

Leaves me clear to concentrate on eldest dc. It is always two steps forward and one steps back or sometimes one step forward and two back. Getting there gradually though.

The three youngest are completely happy and sorted. Three happy, one to go.

LadyinCement · 04/10/2017 11:37

Radio silence from ds. One txt yesterday saying he'd joined "a bunch of random societies". I eagerly txtd back "Which ones?" but so far no information. Morris Dancing? Mime? Tiddlywinks?

All I know is there will be nothing sporty. He was planning a nice restful afternoon for the slot marked "sports trials" on his timetable.
