The other thread filled up really quickly, with exciting talk of laundry, mattress toppers and lost property.

Here's where the rest of them settle in, get through freshers and the work gets serious.

DS says they are not allowed to use fabric conditioner which he was a bit peeved about. He hasn't mentioned whether colour catchers are allowed, probably because he doesn't know what they are!

SoupDragon · 09/10/2017 15:03

I thought ahead and bought DS grey sheets :o

I don't see how a colour catcher would be a problem. Maybe it's because they're small and might block something? If they went in one of those net bags you can get, that would solve any problem though.

BackforGood · 09/10/2017 15:13

That sound lovely oneleft Smile.
I like that everyone helps each other out - them by frogmarching her to the gym, her by teaching flatmate how to look after himself. The sharing a wash makes so much sense practically, although I can imagine many MNers throwing the arms up in disgust Grin
Oldie - some need white eg for part of a sports kit or as a shirt if they are waitressing etc. Don't think it is a choice.

HSMMaCM · 09/10/2017 15:15

Colour catchers get stuck in the machine innards. I have told DD to put hers in a net bag, like we do at home.

She has black sheets. She bought them specially for uni.

Dingit - what a bully Angry

Oh, I get it now. Duh!

HSMMaCM · 09/10/2017 18:06

I learned about colour catchers the expensive way !

MollyHuaCha · 09/10/2017 19:00

I tucked a pack of colour catchers into DS’s bag a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if he’s discovered the halls launderette yet though...

RedHelenB · 09/10/2017 19:25

Text out of the blue from dd asking about when she had her operation. Turns out she's actually doing some uni work amongst all the partying!

LineysRun · 09/10/2017 19:47

DS might actually get his student loan on Wednesday. Bloody nightmare.

Meanwhile DD in final year elsewhere needs my attention and I feel I'm just obsessed with how shit Reading has been.

I need to chill. Wine

Auntpetunia2015 · 09/10/2017 20:11

Oh lineys I feel your pain. Still chasing student finance as they conveniently lost my single parent evidence so only gave DS minimum maintenance grant which literally this term just covers his flat! But been told it will now all be sorted by 5th November. It better had be or I'll be putting rockets up something!
Off now to read all about all your dcs. Haven't managed to speak to mine as his phone mike isn't working so it's all via text or snap chat.

unfortunateevents · 09/10/2017 20:12

Yup, bought navy and grey sheets for DS. Was amazed when we spoke at the weekend and he said the 6 guys on his floor are pooling their whites as no-one has enough for individual loads! Domesticity has hit! They also clubbed together to buy a clothes airer.

HSMMaCM · 09/10/2017 20:23

DD got an email to say accommodation fees are due at the end of the week and penalties will be imposed it she doesn't pay. Now ... I am 99% sure I set it up as a direct debit, but she is now panicking about it. It's such bad communication.

OP posts:
fairyofallthings · 09/10/2017 20:28

auntpetunia they didn't ask me for any single parent evidence - what did you have to provide?

RedHelenB · 09/10/2017 20:33

I needed to send a copy of my decree absolute for student finance fairy.

fairyofallthings · 09/10/2017 20:39

It's a good job they didn't ask me for it then, it was 17 years ago and I have no idea where it is.

fairyofallthings · 09/10/2017 20:41

Ah, I just remembered - I had to send a copy of the council tax bill as proof that I was single because it showed the single adult status.

Oldie2017 · 09/10/2017 21:00

I think mine just took the sheets and duvet off their bed at home the morning we left - just rather old sheets probably with marks on but I suppose at least it won't matter if they suffer damage when washed.

(I don't even know what a colour catcher is......)

Mine didn't get an invoice or rather email saying - pay now. Instead one had to log on to his account and search for it and then told his brother too. I suppose had they been late they might have got chasing emails,.

LineysRun · 09/10/2017 21:02

fairy, yy I had to send copy of decree absolute three times now to SFE. Like I might have managed to get un-divorced somehow in the past three years ...

hugoagogo · 10/10/2017 07:10

Argh ds now talking about dropping out. It's only been a few weeks.Sad

OddBoots · 10/10/2017 07:31

Oh no, hugoagogo - have they said why?

HSMMaCM · 10/10/2017 07:32

Oh that's hard. What is he struggling with?

OP posts:
Auntpetunia2015 · 10/10/2017 07:59

Yeah fairy redhelen. I've sent decree nisi (absolute Still not through due to sorting out pensions but should be soon) p60 to show earning and copy of council tax thing. This is the 3rd time I've sent it all track and trace and last night I was told "oh that means nothing that's a signature from Someone at the Royal Mail as they put it on the van!" Arghh...

hugoagogo · 10/10/2017 07:59

Just that he is miserable, he worked so hard to get there, retook his AS at the same time has his A levels did better than any of his teachers expected and now he wants to throw it away.
I find I am a bit cross actually. I suppose that's not helpful.

SoupDragon · 10/10/2017 08:22

Can you go to see him?

HSMMaCM · 10/10/2017 08:31

Has he spoken to anyone in student services. They might be able to get to the bottom of whether it's being away from home, the course, his housemates, or whatever. If the worst comes to the worst maybe he needs a gap year, but it sounds like he worked really hard for this
