On the advice of MN I bought ds a mattress topper (Groupon) only to find that he had a double bed, not a single. Ditto all the bedclothes. We had to dash to the shops to buy some more bedding (grrrr). We were not the only ones...

Also on advice of MN I bought an over-the-radiator dryer thing and over-the-door clothes hooks. His hall has warm air heating (no radiators) and the doors were too thick to hang the hook on...

Anyway, the Groupon one was quite thick and cheaper than ones from John Lewis etc.

DH was going to get a memory foam topper for DD yesterday but the instructions said it had to be laid out flat for 3 days before use. So he got an ordinary one (dunelm mills) ... and remarked that we managed without such things at all back in the day. (He said dunelm only had single, double and king)

unfortunateevents · 29/09/2017 13:07

Poisonedbypen we got a 4 ft topper from Dunelm, only place we could find that size (not memory foam though). I think someone said the 4 ft ones were not shown with the rest of the toppers on the site but I just put 3/4 topper into the search option on the Dunelm site and it came up - £15.

DS is coming home for a flying visit this weekend, don't know if it's just for the day or an overnighter. Not spoken to him in the two weeks he's been gone, I'm so excited to see him and I'll try not to bombard him with all the questions that's been going around my head since he's gone!

LadyinCement · 29/09/2017 14:31

Was just thinking, for once I wish there could be a parents' evening - primary-school style. I want to know how he's doing and if he's all right at playtime and I know he never puts his hand up because he's shy but if you ask him... etc etc etc (only half-joking...).

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/09/2017 14:37

DD was hoping her new bed will be much more comfortable than her old one at home, which apparently has a pretty rubbish mattress. She would mention it from time to time but sadly we never got around to changing it. I'll have to ask her if her new one is any better!
I was pleased to see Uni had provided first layer with mattress protector, so DD's sheets and duvet could just go on top of that. We didn't think about getting anything more.
She made herself a nice pillow cover though, before we went, out of an old t-shirt.

poisonedbypen · 29/09/2017 15:25

unfortunateevents which one did you get from Dunelm? I see there are 3 that are 4 foot.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 29/09/2017 17:38

Just spoke with ds. He sounds so tired. He said he feels like he's been on a really enjoyable city break but now he's exhausted and wants to come home...

bigTillyMint · 29/09/2017 18:27

Lady, too much partying?!

Horsemad · 29/09/2017 18:47

DS has broken his phone, only had it 2 weeks. Hmm

It's an iPhone 6 and just went off even though it had plenty of charge. He's tried charging it, nothing happening.
Any ideas anyone?
Was purchased from JL so he'll have to go in tomorrow if it doesn't come back on.

Horsemad · 29/09/2017 19:30

Fixed now, the power of Google!! Grin

Abra1d · 29/09/2017 19:38

My daughter replaced her broken phone. And accidentally had it mailed to the house. So yet another trip to the post office.

Horsemad · 29/09/2017 19:46

BehindTheBlueDoor I think getting ready and sending them off ate the worst bits. I miss DS but with mobile phones he's not that far away. I also keep reminding myself that I've suceeded as a parent and sent one child off into the world. :)

SoupDragon · 29/09/2017 19:56

I've sent DS a test piece of post to see if we've got his address right. It's a photo of his bear out partying with the PG TIps knitted monkeys :)

Horsemad · 29/09/2017 19:57

What phone insurance do you all use please?

rightsofwomen · 29/09/2017 19:59

Ermmm...phone insurance?

Sparklingbrook · 29/09/2017 20:06

Phew, glad you got it working Horse.

DS has a 'Gadget Pack' through Barclays. Covers his phone and his laptop. He had to tell them exactly what gadgets he had. It's £9.50 a month, which is a lot but it's for peace of mind.

Horsemad · 29/09/2017 20:08

Thanks Sparkling, he bought the phone from JL and has a Tesco SIM but really needs some insurance for damage/theft etc.

Wonder if his bank does cover? Will suggest that.

Haffdonga · 29/09/2017 20:16

DS used Endsleigh room insurance and added his phone and laptop as gadgets separately. It worked out about the same as one of those Protect my bubble/ gadget separate insurance for items.

hugoagogo · 29/09/2017 20:20

I'm sure when I was at university my dm just crossed out our address on any post for me and wrote my halls address on the envelope then shoved it back in the post box. Any idea if that still works or do I need to buy some stamps?Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 29/09/2017 20:27

It should work, but could be slow so probably best to re-stamp if its likely to be important
