Yes, there was no interest in my whittering on about a fig tree. I was just trying to show him how nice his grounds were ( given his twin in the next halls up has amazing grounds, long drive way, chapel, manicured lawns, a quad, sports pitches). What is lovely is that they both like their rooms so that's all that matters.

Little when my oldest went I had 4 more at home including 4 year old twins so I remember that stage. this time with the last going at once it is more peaceful and I know they are likelyt o be back in 3 years (their sisters came back to do 2 years of law school in London after they graduated for example. I estimate it will be more like 6 years before they have probably fully left home.

Been at the council tip today with the rubbish we took back here from moving my older son into his house.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/09/2017 17:57

We went sailing - not very seriously but companionably together in a single hander - we're both small enough to be able to muck about like kids. Grin a nice way to spend her last weekend here.

bigbluebus · 23/09/2017 18:18

Texted DS to ask if he might be phoning home this weekend as we haven't spoken since we dropped him off last Saturday. He replied "might phone later but everything is fine, don't worry". Have never gone this long without speaking to him before - even when he went on holiday in the Summer he rang me. He used to ring once or twice a week when he went to Uni the last time. Not sure whether to be pleased or worried. He has ASD so slightly more vulnerable.

dingit · 23/09/2017 18:48

I was a bit perturbed that despite dds flat mates having already arrived, the fridge and freezers were empty. We filled her spaces with a Tesco click and collect. Glad we did that as Tesco was mobbed with students and parents Shock

Horsemad · 23/09/2017 18:56

dingit same with DS yesterday, hardly any food in fridge/freezer, even though 3 of them have been there since Tuesday! Shock Grin

stonecircle · 23/09/2017 19:09

I expect during freshers there'll be a lot of eating on the go. We just made sure ds had basics - cereal, milk, bread, butter, cheese, pasta etc. If we'd stocked up for him I expect a lot of it would have gone uneaten.

user327854831 · 23/09/2017 19:11

QOD I hope they are better soon.
Mine is missing the outdoor space, they are right in the middle of the city but they are an outdoor person. They chose to live in the city and they get on well with their flat mates though they hardly seen one as they have family in the city and so spend all their time with them. I think they are missing the green spaces though :-(

We saw them today and went to the beach :-)

RedHelenB · 23/09/2017 19:42

Well dd dropped off and we're back home. Smooth journey, accomadation lovely and she's met two of her flatmates. So far I think they may be a bit on the tame side for her but they seem nice and I think they're having a getting to know You evening in the flat.
She's got her freshers wristband and uni ID so good to get going for freshers tomorrow! Supposed to be registering at drs on Monday but I Wouldn't be surprised if that got put on hold!

Who's left to go?

MorvahRising · 23/09/2017 19:42

Back home having left DS in his really very lovely room at Southampton. He was seriously nervous driving down poor soul. Thank you to Ocies for the heads-up about the traffic - we went across country and avoided it completely.

Saw two other boys in the flat and there is a lovely friendly girl opposite him and a huge amount of food and cooking equipment was being carried in so hopefully he has picked a gourmet flat!

I felt quite teary all day but managed not to show it. Then we finally got home and his room was empty and I had a good cry! Now have large glass of wine for consolation purposes.

Oldie2017 · 23/09/2017 19:52

Glad it's all going fine. Mine will be having meals cooked for the first time in many years (they have cooked for themselves at home for at least 4 or 5 years) so it's kind of the reverse and they will probably moan in the holidays at being back on shopping and cooking duty at home.

I did text them today and they said "doing fine". They respond too to photos we get on whatsapp of their adorable brand new nephew and the little niece who is still just one. I think it's rather nice I have two tiny grandchidlren just as the twins leave for university. Cycle of life.

rogueantimatter · 23/09/2017 20:09

DS heard today that he got into a Scottish music group which will pay for for his travel to rehearsals and concerts once every few weeks. Free trip home. What a bonus. The initial audition was recorded with the second round of live auditions taking place in october the same weekend as his sister's 21st birthday so we were hoping he'd be asked to the second audition. However they told him he doesn't need to go to the second audition. That wo have been the icing on the cake.

BestIsWest · 23/09/2017 20:17

Well done to your DS *Rogue

HSMMaCM · 23/09/2017 20:30

Excellent news rogue. DD arrived 3 days before her housemates and still had some food in. They all spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen apparently.

I moved into my accommodation today. I got a scholarship so I get it free for the first year. It's basic but adequate... I just wish it was a bit warmer! It's a two bed flat but I'm on my own so far (which tbh suits me perfectly!)

Going shopping tomorrow for freezer bits, a memory foam mattress topper and a fleece throw!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 23/09/2017 21:11

Great to catch up with thread now I'm back home. Thinking of those that have had a trickier time of it.
Though the 6 hour drive to Swansea and then the same again on the way home today was no picnic.
Hopefully trains from now on!
Have had some nice exchanges with DD on FB - with some pics of room with bed made up and a few posters on the wall! - and short phone call so beginning to feel better about things now.
Thanks especially for your message BestIsWest, it's somehow comforting to think that a few friends are a bit nearer to DD than I am now 😊

bigTillyMint · 23/09/2017 21:20

Well done Roguelet!

DD just text to say she has applied for 2 jobs 😱😱😱

Ocies · 23/09/2017 21:23

Morvah, I'm so pleased you avoided the traffic chaos - I have been thinking about you today (my ds went to Southampton too, 4 years ago)!

GrumpyOldBag · 23/09/2017 21:28

DS has just phoned.

How lovely I thought. Had a slightly stilted conversation for about 10 minutes. Already know he's getting on fine, thought he must be missing us.

Then it turns out DH texted him earlier today & told him to phone his mother. Not happy with DH interference.

user327854831 · 23/09/2017 21:31

Well done to your DS Rogue
Juggling - 6 hours?! We're very lucky to be near enough to go down for a couple of hours.

HSMMaCM · 23/09/2017 21:40

Grumpy your DH heart was in the right place and good for your DS acting on the suggestion.

Obviously it would have been nicer if it had been his own idea, but sometimes they need reminding.

Just home , left st 6am so was a long day . DD loves the uni , the room at first glance not so much . Quick trip to the shops and she's all snug . Hope she settles quickly.

Horsemad · 23/09/2017 22:35

Long old day for you oneleft.

BestIsWest · 23/09/2017 22:38

Swansea is a great place Juggling and it doesn't rain ALL the time, we had sun today! Hope she enjoys.

TheMightyMing · 24/09/2017 07:33

DS stayed in last night, reckons he's got freshers flu, complaining of a sore throats and so on. I think he's probably overdone the nights out. We are going over next weekend with his TVs and games console. Really missing him but he seems to be having a good time.

Was slightly shocked that he only has lectures on 2 days out of 5! So doesn't start till Tuesday.

oneleftinthenest · 24/09/2017 07:47

Yes was very tiring physically and mentally as I'm sure it was for all of us . Woke up to a message saying love you mum with a kiss .. Heart melts 💗
