Good luck today Horse!

The students at Birmingham are overawed by the fact that an actor from Game of Thrones is a fresher. Needless to say I don't think DS has been awake during daylight hours or sober enough at night to spot him.

He came home last night and looked the most tired I've ever seen him. When he asked for various things (like bagels, particular yogurts etc) I had to tell him I no longer buy them as he was the only one who ever ate them and he doesn't live here Sad. At least he decided to stay over and go back this morning so I didn't have to worry about him leaving his clean washing in a club Grin

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 09:40

Just bawled my eyes out when DS gave me his house key back Sad

LineysRun · 22/09/2017 10:02

It's Day 6 since DS left, and I'm on my own. DS sounds a bit up and down on the phone when he rings. I think the volume of admin is proving pretty stressful.

LittleHo · 22/09/2017 10:09

Why are university term dates are so variable? There is over a months difference with some starting at the beginning of September and others not until October.

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 10:14

Not sure Littleho.

We are en route, DS has gone to sleep, my eyes keep leaking. Wish I could turn back the clock 18yrs.

Mytimenow · 22/09/2017 10:16

I wish DS1 would have a conversation with me! I know nothing about how he's settling in or getting on with flatmates or how his induction day's have gone.
I thought I was doing well not nagging for him but have looked back and I've txt him once a day since Monday eve (he went Saturday) and I've had 2 replies,"I'm alive", and "everything ok"! Last reply was Tuesday, heard nothing since 😢

LittleHo · 22/09/2017 10:17

No.....Think of the nappies! Grin

Good luck Horsemad.

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 10:42

OMG, we've sprung an oil leak! Currently waiting for breakdown van to come to our aid.

That's stopped me crying, at least! Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 22/09/2017 10:49

There's an inevitable imbalance in most healthy parent-child relationships. They are far more interesting to us than we are to them. In a way, I think that them taking us for granted can be a back-handed compliment -DD knows we're always here for her, will always support her (other than financially, but even then would do what we could if need arose).

amaliaa · 22/09/2017 10:49

That's annoying Horsemad. Brew Hope you get moving soon.

amaliaa · 22/09/2017 10:50

I had a message from dd timed at 22:45, so I guess that means she is not going clubbing every night.

I think she is a bit surprised by the reality of her engineering course being so male dominated. Of course she knew it would be like that, but somehow she did not anticipate how she would feel being in that environment.

dingit · 22/09/2017 11:42

Horse have you got far to go?

My dd is also doing engineering, but it seems like she has a lot of female flatmates.

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 12:20

Lincs to Newcastle dingit

Leak repaired but has caused damage to engine. Luckily our cover includes a hire car so trying to arrange that now - they're wanting to give us a Fiesta!! Grin We won't fit everything in!

bigbluebus · 22/09/2017 12:24

Horse I was just going to say good luck with the journey. Hope you get sorted soon. I made DS take his house key with him this time. He didn't bother last time as he was flying there and back so he expected lifts from airports so didn't see the need for a key. This time I've told him he can catch the train so best have his key in case we're not in when he gets home!

Eve Can't help with the timescales re DSA assessment sorry as when DS had his (2 years ago) I got him organised and he had his assessment in June near to home (it was done by someone from a local Uni). They did only just managed to get him his laptop a week before he left home though so there was a big rush to set up the software and to 'train' the Dragon software which he has never used

rightsofwomen · 22/09/2017 12:24

Taking DS1 to Southampton tomorrow.

He has not started packing.
Am I meant to be doing more to get him ready?
He will get a box of grocs and some basic kitchen stuff today (they say to wait to see what the flatmates have before buying loads of pans etc).

I'm of the mind that he'll have Freshers' week to get himself settled.

People have said that I must be busy getting him ready, but I'm really not. Have I missed something?!

bigbluebus · 22/09/2017 12:27

Just seen your update Horse. DS got all his stuff in a Fiat Panda last time - and he had a lot of stuff. They crossed to Ireland from Holyhead and customs opened the car door to do a search, saw all the stuff and changed their minds Grin

dingit · 22/09/2017 12:40

Oh good grief Horse, you are having a mare ( no pun intended). I hope you have Winein the fridge when you get home.

RedHelenB · 22/09/2017 12:47

Fingers crossed you're on your way again soon Hirsemad.

MorvahRising · 22/09/2017 12:51

Hope you get moving soon Horsemad!

RightsofWomen we're off to Southampton tomorrow too.

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2017 12:52

Horse, you sound very upbeat given the circs!
Good luck to all those dropping today/tomorrow - cant believe its almost a week since we dropped DD. DS is missing her mostSad

parques · 22/09/2017 13:02

Horsemad - that happened to us too. Had to unload son's stuff from the back of a two truck! Caused chaos on campus! Grin.

oneleftinthenest · 22/09/2017 13:05

Time to pack the car up , I will be amazed if it all fits in . Mattress topper didn't turn up but I've managed to get the company to drop if at hubbys accountants today so he can bring it home with him after his appointment . Spent most of yesterday with dd trying on outfits for freshers events . Raided her older sisters stash of fancy dress items. Cute seeing the younger one using them . Off at 8am tomorrow to do the drop . Will miss her smiling face and banter in the house .

Sparklingbrook · 22/09/2017 13:08

Hope you are ok Horse. Wine for later.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 22/09/2017 13:09
