Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 21/09/2017 22:53

errol

A kettle apparently for pasta...

True fact

BackforGood · 21/09/2017 22:54

Best Grin

Thanks Errol - DS has decided to take a spare laptop too in case of further issues! Very sensible.

I've advised dd to make friends with someone in Computer Sciences Wink

HSMMaCM · 21/09/2017 23:03

Today DD has 'cooked'

  • bagel
  • spaghetti hoops on toast
  • pizza

Apparently the oven is rubbish

Can't believe how late other unis are starting! I've been in lectures since the 4th of September. Things not too crazy as I'm not in halls but made some friends. Lots of girls on the course (were doing teaching so mostly women) are a bit sad about missing home/boyfriends but there's not much time to think with all the reading etc

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 06:04

I'm up.

Feels a bit weird now the day has arrived. I was weepy on Wed, absolutely fine yesterday and today feels surreal. Confused

Half of DS's flat mates are International Students, and have already arrived. He and one other arrive today and the last one tomorrow.

The ones who are already there have sent pics of the kitchen - very swish! Looks clean at the moment, lol.

ImListening · 22/09/2017 06:19

Be kind to yourself *horse it's a rollercoaster of emotions.

TheMightyMing · 22/09/2017 06:22

Horse, feeling for you today- hope all goes well x

bigTillyMint · 22/09/2017 06:25

Good Luck Horse - it does feel surreal, doesn't it?!

HSMMaCM · 22/09/2017 06:31

Good luck Horse. I wasn't prepared for the speed they unloaded the car Grin

I'm not as much of a blubbing wreck as when DS1 went. Dear me, I cried for a week BEFORE he left!

Thought I'd be worse with DS2 as we do a lot together and I'm really going to miss him.

That's actually set me off now... Sad

Horsemad · 22/09/2017 06:34

HSMMaCM - YES, it's like someone waves a magic wand and woosh! It's empty!! Grin

MorvahRising · 22/09/2017 07:34

Good luck Horse - at least the sun is shining! That always helps.

QOD · 22/09/2017 07:49

Dd seems so independent and resilient. Other than the 1.41am phonecall as she had a headache (which I missed)
I was thinking about it yesterday and although she needed to grow up and get some independence- why did I encourage her 🙄😭🙄

dingit · 22/09/2017 08:37

Been following all you stories, and trying to match some of you up on the Facebook group. ( found one!)

Our turn tomorrow, she's packing, it's real! Argh!

Well, my nest has been empty for a week now, since my youngest went off at the weekend. I work from home and because a project had a deadline moved drastically forward, owing to someone else's miscommunication, I have had to cancel pretty well everything else apart from work. So I am not seeing anyone from my husband leaving at 6.20am and returning at 7pm.

I can't wait for the work to be done so I can start to fill in coffee and dog walks with friends to make it all a bit less isolated. The time from about 4.45 until 7pm is hard as that's when my daughter would be home and although she would usually incarcerate herself in her room and grunt at me, at least she was there.

As soon as the work is handed in I am going to feel happier with a more balanced week.

She is happy, though, making friends and throwing herself into it all. She got into the course she longed to do, so that makes me happy for her and it helps.

As Oldie says, chances are one of mine might drift home. He wants to do a law conversion course in the City and we are working out whether rent to live in London would be more or less than the exorbitant rail fare from here plus free board and lodgings. Not much of a social life, though.

Eve · 22/09/2017 08:47

thanks for all the DSA info, do you know how long after assessment the DSA team go tin touch about placing orders as DS leaves Weds?

My normally very assured child is getting anxious - not that he would ever admit it.

Aunt petunia someone put a link to a Facebook group, things I wish I knew about starting university. I'll see if I can find it again.

dingit · 22/09/2017 08:58

Ah, someone beat me to it.

There was also someone on Lorraine with twins talking about empty nesters, who I'm sure may have been on here Grin

RedHelenB · 22/09/2017 09:14

Hope it all goes smoothly Horsemad- it will be me tomorrow! Dd frantically looking for a mesh top that us crucial to her wardrobe. State the house is in means it could be anywhere. We have time to get two loads of washing done and dried today sndvthsts her lot!

rogueantimatter · 22/09/2017 09:18

Good morning everyone. Very best wishes to parents of students who are moving in today.

To offer encouragement... it's been a week and a half since DS went. I had a couple of very down days where every little thing that should be a bonus, less laundry, mess etched just reminded me of my new worthless hopeless life as it seemed and worrying about the boy but already I feel much better. Although I suspect that he will communicate less as he gets more settled which will be hard.

RedHelenB · 22/09/2017 09:28

I'm not feeling sad yet more excited for her.
