Medicine 2018?

Katisha · 01/07/2017 12:13

Is there already a thread for medicine applications for 2018 entry?
If not can I start one?
Wondered if anyone knew about the Birmingham GCSE situation as DS has A stars and As at GCSE and likely to be predicted A stars at A level but is coming up on their offers calculator as unlikely to get an interview.
Is it pointless to apply to Birmingham if not all stars at GCSE? Didn't get a star in biology.

Phew.

teta · 11/11/2017 14:55

Oops sorry !
I didn't mean to panic you ...,,being a bit of a usurper on this thread Blush.

SomersetS · 11/11/2017 17:37

Feel free to join us Teta - I’m sure Vet is just as painful as Human to get in, maybe worse!

We live quite close to Bristol Vet School - lovely part of the world but miles out of Bristol! Did you apply there?

SomersetS · 11/11/2017 17:38

It’s all in the name - may have a few celebratory local ciders tonight.

mumsneedwine · 11/11/2017 18:13

Ooh love a bit of scrumpy. Just me and DDs tonight as everyone else out so we are having pizza with Strictly. Weirdly a Next catalogue was delivered today !!

teta · 13/11/2017 11:15

Thank you SomersetS!
Yes Vet. Med. is a painfully prolonged process even compared to applying for Medicine.Dd started interviews in November last year and continued on to ones in February and then got her first offer in late March. Her medical friends started interviewing much later but received offers very soon afterwards.
Yes Bristol Vet school is set in a lovely bit of Somerset. We are reapplying this year as she got an offer there last year. The only problem is they are not interviewing this year, but are solely deciding on the basis of a questionnaire !

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 12:42

DD has just had a Cardiff interview confirmed!!! Happy, happy 😀

swingofthings · 13/11/2017 13:04

Great news Mommymoomitzi Smile Flowers

St George has confirmed it's ukcat cut off this morning and say that everyone meeting it and other entry requirements will be interviewed so just a case of waiting for the invite which is great news for DD.

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 13:35

Thankyou swing of things. 😘 Such a relief. We can now officially order a Next catalogue 😂

biscuit2000 · 13/11/2017 15:29

TSR Plymouth thread showing some interview offers have been issued today. DD above cutoff but still waiting to hear .....

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 15:54

Biscuit2000 - My DD is in the same boat as yours!!!! It's so stressful for them 😬

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 17:06

Update - DD received news of interview at Plymouth at 4pm. So that's 2. 👍

biscuit2000 · 13/11/2017 19:19

DD also received Plymouth interview invite late afternoon.

SomersetS · 13/11/2017 19:44

Wow. Well done!

More positive news from Julian at Sheffield - invitations will be out by Friday latest.

Nothing from Leicester yet here & hoping Hull might start next week.

Liverpool are still saying January! 😱

mumsneedwine · 13/11/2017 20:01

Love Julian. He is so kind to keep us informed. Mine Liverpool too - going to be a loooong wait ! Southampton and Nottingham the others and no clue when can expect to hear but DD seems pretty relaxed at moment. She’s been quite heartened by the fact she’d have qualified for Plymouth and St George’s - I’m just wishing she’d have applied there 😂😂😳

Trippy4 · 13/11/2017 20:12

Think dd heard from Nottingham late November or early December last year, interview was December . I do remember they aske for signed letters confirming all work experience which dd had to take We her .

Trippy4 · 13/11/2017 20:12

With her !

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 20:16

Medical ethics book has now replaced Facebook! Interviews start in next to no time. Yet another round of booking hotels and traveling miles, takes me back to the open day sharps! Why is it that DD wants to be as far away from home as possible? A Mother could get a complex 😉 Biscuit2000 - what date has your DD chosen for her interview?

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 20:17

Oops schleps, not sharps!!!! 🙄

mumsneedwine · 13/11/2017 20:30

Oh blimey. Better get some signed letters for work experience - although think she had some kind of certificate for all but one. And that was at GP she babysits for. Although Nottingham might not want her Confused.

Wandastartup · 13/11/2017 20:33

Re Bristol as an interviewer they have only just sent us out dates & they go on until the middle of March so no need to panic yet!

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 21:10

Hi Wandastartup - thanks for that fabulous post! You are so right, when our DC see that they are not in the first "wave" of interviews, they think it's game over, so cheers for the positivity 🥂

biscuit2000 · 13/11/2017 21:24

Hi Mommymoomitzi thanks for the reassurance earlier! Funny though, DD searching earlier for updates on Plymouth must have found this thread and asked if I was Biscuit2000. Scary how well they know us! She was thinking 30 Nov but not sure.

Mommymoomitzi · 13/11/2017 21:38

😂😂😂 Biscuit 2000, my daughter also caught me stalking TSR and said she was going to put up a post asking if my daughter had an interview! Monday 4th for us, going down on Friday and making a weekend of it. Did you go to the open day? I thought it was excellent, so friendly and well run. DD had a great time in the medical emergency simulation area.

watfordmummy · 13/11/2017 22:15

We have an interview with St Andrews!!

DS very happy... off to prepare for MMI Grin
