Continuation of the original thread which is now on to 40 page maximum.
Original thread (part 1) here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2759621-Uni-offers-for-2017-start?

Most offers now received. My twins have had offers from their 4 and are currently deciding which will be firm and which insurance. One twin
( possibly two of them) is going to an offer holders' day coming up at Bristol next month with his friends from school.

Dd just worked 3 days in a row and has only just started revision today for an exam Weds. Just as well she had has an excellent memory!

7461Mary18 · 05/06/2017 19:36

First one was easy (one of them said) - never a wise thing to say.....

beepbeepimasheep · 05/06/2017 20:52

General studies was ok this afternoon, nothing too complicated by all accounts.

aginghippy · 06/06/2017 09:16

Mary my dd said the same, it makes no difference as long as you apply before the deadline of 31st July. They don't start allocating rooms until after the A level results have been confirmed.

Wanting to focus on their exams has to be a good thing.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 06/06/2017 09:34

DS submitted accommodation request on Sunday but I think they just get held now until August results. First exam on Friday, he's v anxious but I'm hoping it will be better once they're underway. Good luck all.

7461Mary18 · 06/06/2017 10:41

I think my boys can wait until after the exams for the accommodation application and I can understand they don't even want to think about it now.
Geography yesterday they seemed to have anticipated the questions. They do go in for exam paper prediction/science a bit too much, my boys. However it seems to pay off. I regard it as a risky bet as even though the exams do try not to cover the same aspects of the syllabus each time they might do two years in a row.

Economics today for one of them.

Behind, yes I think it's better once they are underway and in the flow of it often anticipation is worse.

I still regard my A levels as the hardest and most stressful exams even with university and postgrad actually. I used to dream about A levels for years after.

7461Mary18 · 06/06/2017 17:19

Economics - he said easy paper but he didn't do it very well. Never mind. There are always ups and down.

HSMMaCM · 06/06/2017 20:19

Mary. Nice of him to put your mind at ease Grin

beepbeepimasheep · 07/06/2017 05:34

Ds has to be at school at seven today for a revision session, then he's in isolation all day because the exam boards have managed to make general studies clash with his psychology exam, they didn't think that one through did they ?! He's doing psychology this morning not this afternoon.

HSMMaCM · 07/06/2017 07:36

Oh that'll be a long day for him! DD has psychology this afternoon, so here's hoping for a good paper.

tobee · 07/06/2017 12:51

Ds first exam on Monday (pm). The rest are am. He goes by tube and train. This is where I start panicking about public transport letting him down. I can drive him but public transport is quicker. The worst thing is if he starts out and gets held up and I have to try and rescue him. We agree he needs to leave a huge margin but that can still go wrong. It makes me feel a bit sick just thinking about it.

HSMMaCM · 07/06/2017 13:13

Tobee - we had this with DD taking the bus for GCSEs and AS levels. We reckoned if the bus broke down we could rescue her in the car, but if we took her by car and the car broke down, she was stuffed.

As it was, when she got her own car, she broke down on the way to an important assessment and it was a military operation to get her to college at the same time as arranging the break down service.

beepbeepimasheep · 07/06/2017 13:49

good luck to those doing psychology then. DS's teacher has arranged for somebody to go out and get them all a takeaway for lunch Grin

I love that teacher.

Lindor · 07/06/2017 14:00

Those of you worried about arriving late for exams due to public transport issues, as long as they aren't very late they should be allowed in and given their full time allotment according to the regulations.
(Recently did some training on this and have read the regulation booklet).

Lindor · 07/06/2017 14:02

Just to add not all exam officers may be up to date on this, so if this happens contact the school straight away and make sure your child is treated fairly

HSMMaCM · 07/06/2017 14:07

Thanks Linder

tobee · 07/06/2017 15:25

Thanks for your responses guys. Just worried about all the stress it will entail. Good luck to everyone's dcs and stressed out parents and carers!

ChipInTheSugar · 07/06/2017 15:54

Any feedback on today's Psych paper? DD found the 16-markers a bit difficult and has disappeared to lick her wounds. Apparently some students were crying in the exam Blush Mind you, school have been late finishing the last module and a bit hazy in how to answer the longer questions 😡

HSMMaCM · 07/06/2017 16:05

Dd went straight from psych to an interview, so we've yet to hear.

HSMMaCM · 07/06/2017 16:26

Psych exam "wasn't that bad" she "nailed some questions" and "waffled on the rest".

I guess it depends what they've been taught. Also she loves psychology and wants to do it at uni.

beepbeepimasheep · 07/06/2017 16:52

DS said it could have gone better and it could have gone worse. Very reassuring - not.

General Studies was apparently easy, or at least the air pollution one was. As DS has asthma he is interested in air pollution.

RedHelenB · 07/06/2017 17:05

Dd very happy with psychology and stats

tobee · 07/06/2017 17:23

Oh no! I don't want to think of people crying in exams. That's awful to hear.

7461Mary18 · 07/06/2017 21:17

No exams for my two today or tomorrow although tomorrow is their all important first day of voting! Exciting day.

goodbyestranger · 07/06/2017 22:17

DS4 very fed up that he doesn't get to vote (late summer baby).

No A levels here until next week but the Finals DS has hung up his exam boots which is good.
