Could we have a handholding thread? I have two DCs going through UCSS at the moment, would love to obsess here so I can appear calm on the outside.
LNAT results go to the UNIs tomorrow I think, so offers could be rolling in soon for DD who has applied for law.

First offer in for my boy, AAB or unconditional if it is his firm choice for Royal Holloway. Smile

doglover · 19/11/2016 11:35

Great news, MS! Same offer for my dd - English! She fell in love with the place when we visited and, if her Oxford dreams don't pan out, she'll probably be there next year.

laundryelf · 19/11/2016 12:37

Anyone's DC had invite for interview at Churchill College, Cambridge for Computer Science?

user1469682920 · 19/11/2016 12:48

or Fitzwilliam for Theology ?

HardcoreLadyType · 19/11/2016 16:10

DD texted me last night that Cambridge only got the ELAT results yesterday. I don't know the accuracy of that, but hopefully it helps explain why English interviews don't seem to be coming out yet.

Her college released dates on the 19th or 20th in recent years, so fingers crossed we hear in the next few days!

WalkingToMordor · 19/11/2016 16:45

Well done to your ds, meredithssister, is it likely to be his firm?

Great news re all the Oxford and Cambridge interviews, hope those waiting hear soon.

At ChezMordor, defying all expectations, ds has 3 interviews, including one at a RG university. I am not happy at the cost of all the train tickets I am going to have to buy!!! He is still waiting to hear from the other two but one of those is nearby so would be a cheap journey.

Can someone please remind me of the ticket website people said was good for cheap train tickets?

goodbyestranger · 19/11/2016 17:07

raileasy Mordor. Ticket here should have been £262 to Manchestaer but with raileasy was £78. Amazing, although five seat changes each way (small price to pay!). I've always used trainline previously - I guess it's worth playing around between the two.

WalkingToMordor · 19/11/2016 17:21

Thanks goodbyestranger, I will check out that website. Manchester is one of the places he has to go so I hope I find a good deal too! Smile

Frenchypen · 21/11/2016 11:24

DS1 hasn't finished his PS or finalised his choices either. I feel it's better to wait until he's really happy with everything rather than rushing it out.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/11/2016 11:31

There's still quite a bit of time. Is it the course or which uni he's still not sure about?

Stopyourhavering · 21/11/2016 12:53

Ds1 hasn't done PS yet either, although does know what/ where he's applying for.( forensic anthropology!- so quite a niche course how do you write a ps for that?...just wish he'd get on and do it as he starts a Christmas job next weekend , so there will be little time left to concentrate on completing application before term ends. however he tells me that head of 6th form doesn't send applications off until deadline any wayConfused.... Which I think is a bit off as my dds ( who went to different school/ college) got their applications in by end of November and had offers almost immediately
Ah the procrastination of youth!....

Needmoresleep · 21/11/2016 13:16

" forensic anthropology!- so quite a niche course how do you write a ps for that?. "

a history of digging up dead pets buried in the garden?!

GypsyFl0ss · 21/11/2016 14:12

DS has just submitted his form, one uni, 3 similar courses. Fingers crossed for at least one offer , if not then he plans a year off to work on his showreel and earn some money.

WalkingToMordor · 21/11/2016 18:47

Good luck to your ds, GypsyFl0ss.

Gosh, stopyourhavering, forensic anthropology, that certainly is niche!

meridithssister · 21/11/2016 18:56

Has anyone heard of an 'academic excellence programme'? DS had a call today offering him a place on this if he makes Royal Holloway his firm choice. He doesn't know what difference that makes and google is not helping. It was followed by an email talking about tuition fees so it's not about money...? Confused

meridithssister · 21/11/2016 18:57

I have no idea what forensic anthropology means but it sounds great doesn't it! Smile

hellsbells99 · 21/11/2016 19:23

Meredith - I think it means he will get an unconditional offer www.royalholloway.ac.uk/studyhere/documents/pdf/academicexcellencescheme2017.pdf

meridithssister · 21/11/2016 19:30

Yes thanks hellsbells we found it just after I posted sorry. It's a fancy way of saying unconditional offer.
I must of spelt it wrong or something when googling. I obviously don't belong here Blush

CharliePurple · 21/11/2016 21:55

Forensic anthropology must have been what we were doing when we dug a new pond and found sandy not clay soil can concluded it was a former sand pit, confirmed by our later discovery of a toy spade and rake. We now know that small children in England like to have sandpits in their gardens Smile
Anyway, it does sound like an unconditional offer so well done to him.

hellsbells99 · 21/11/2016 22:07

Well done to your DS Meredith! 😄

GetAHaircutCarl · 22/11/2016 06:35

DD has her first round audition at RADA todayShock.

She changed her Shakespeare monologue last night ShockShock.

I bloody well hope she doesn't forget the words (let alone the subtext etc).

Needmoresleep · 22/11/2016 07:12

I hope it goes well. RADA is a tough one.

CharliePurple · 22/11/2016 07:13

Good luck at RADA.

GetAHaircutCarl · 22/11/2016 07:53

Thank you.

She is very circumspect about her application and understands the odds are stacked against her generally and specifically.

But last night's change of monologue was a bit Hmm. Not the actions of someone just doing this 'for the experience'.

At least the other two monologues haven't changed ( yet).

GypsyFl0ss · 22/11/2016 08:31

Well done Meredith's DS. I had a BF at RH many years ago, very fond memories of Founders Hall!
Good luck to your DD Get, hope it all goes smoothly for her.
