Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

She phoned again this morning and they said they cant tell her anything. We are going up to a UCAS advice meeting this afternoon. I don't know if it will be any good but DD wants to try. I might go to admissions in person while Im up there.
Her college interview is tomorrow, she phoned them this morning too, they said for her to ask for the exam payment to be deferred until thursday.

Million2One · 22/08/2016 13:14

CocoLePew That's so frustrating. Has she asked to speak to a supervisor. I unashameably stepped in last year when DS was being given incorrect information by a Uni about adjustment. DS wasn't assertive enough and didn't know the right lingo. Not Mumsnetty but it wasn't the time to faff around.

Cocolepew · 22/08/2016 13:46

She's in!!!!

Just5minswithDacre · 22/08/2016 13:47

cocolepew Great news!

ReadyToSignOff he is phone phobic It's not admissible MN but I have two DC like that and I know lots more that would cut off their arm rather than pick up a phone and ring a real person up. DS1 would have been the same as your DS - willing to sacrifice the possibility of getting what he really wants rather than pick up The Phone.
My greatest dread if we needed clearing was The Phone. I wonder whether it's because their generation has never had to use a phone, everything is digital. I strongly believe they should be taught such life skills at school I've failed as a parent because I can't get them to use a phone.

poppledopple · 22/08/2016 14:47

Cocole....I have been following your story too since the start !!! Beyond delighted for you - so so pleaded - painful wait - but brilliant result ! Celebrate !!
Ready - can he email?? You could draft it and it goes from his email address ? It does work.....!!!

Fantastic news coco

Good news here too, after a weekend of thinking it over, DS is now excited about Durham, knows which college he's going to and has sorted accommodation etc. Phew Smile

Thank you for your good wishes and positive vibes Grin. I'm just glad its sorted before the college interview. We were actually in Belfast, on our way to Queens, when she got an email.

Glad he's sorted toffee Wine

Ready, DD was seriously phone phobic, she would have a total meltdown but she's had to phone so much this week she's not as scared now.
As long as she is on her own phoning she's fine. I had to keep telling her the people she's phoning don't actually mind her ringing. Hmm

gonegrey56 · 22/08/2016 15:08

toffeenose my dd was also reluctant/wary about going to Durham. At the end of her first day in Freshers' Week she sent me a text saying she could not believe she had nearly turned down the place..and has been so happy and fulfilled there. I am sure your ds will feel the same. Best of luck to him. You must be relieved the decision is made .

Cocolepew · 22/08/2016 15:09

I'm the same coconutty, they don't suddenly become independent adults overnight Grin

MirabelleTree · 22/08/2016 15:24

Hurray, excellent news Cocolepew!!

2016Blyton · 22/08/2016 15:37

Good luck to them all.
(Mine have been doing on line super market shopping since they were 10 though by the way as they add to the basket what they need and they also have been doing all their own cooking for a few years so certainly teenagers do differ a lot; not that it matters. As I've always said if you can read you can cook and anyone can do it - you just open google and cook the stuff - you don't need years of practice).

EllenJanethickerknickers · 22/08/2016 16:09

Brilliant news cocolepew! I can remember you from the GCSE thread, your DD has done so well. Flowers

Toffee that must be a relief.

SecretSquirrels · 22/08/2016 16:37

Hear hear Coconutty! I know that some 18 year olds are fully functioning, sensible, assertive and capable adults. Just not mine. A year away at uni does make a big difference though.
I have been known to write a script for an important phone call and have DS rehearse it. Blush.

Million2One · 22/08/2016 16:41

2016Blyton. We never doubted for one moment your teens were shopping and cooking for themselves but thanks for letting us know. 😂

BestIsWest · 22/08/2016 16:59

So pleased for your DD cocole. The wait must have been agonising
