Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

It's horrible Coco. What've you got planned for the weekend? Any hope of any minor distraction from it all?

goodbyestranger · 20/08/2016 10:01

toffeenose I know Durham very well. I disagree about the college being make or break. It sounds an incredibly bad idea to insist although as you describe him I completely get why you think Durham might be a good fit. Would you consider driving him up and staying overnight together, on the understanding that if he hates the feel of it then he can reapply with your blessing? The problem is that it's out of term, so the city has a very different feel from during term. I guess if he's still extremely disappointed about Oxford a re-application would give him another shot at that but a second rejection would be pretty grim. Good luck - very hard situation.

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 10:15

She's going to give them another ring. Mainly because we has to pay £200 for her fast track A levels on Tuesday morning.

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 10:16

Have not has Blush

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 10:31

If she hasn't heard by monday she has to phone again.
The bloke she was talking to said its more than likely she will be offered a place because she only missed one grade. Hopefully he wasn't speaking out of turn there!

Congratulations to everyone who has posted good news since I was last on moaning Grin

dreamingofsun · 20/08/2016 11:03

coco - apologies but i haven't managed to keep up with all this thread. If your DD/DS is waiting confirmation on a course, have they in the meantime looked at places available at other unis? they might spot somewhere that's actually better than where you are waiting for, that ordinarily they wouldn't have expected to be able to get into? thats what happened to my DS a few years ago. he then got released from the pending place who were still humming and haring (because they wanted him but uni was over numbers)

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 11:04

Fingers crossed he's right!

toffeenose · 20/08/2016 11:06

Fingers crossed for your DD cocolepew, it sounds very positive!

Hi Goodbye we offered to take him up for the open day and have offered to take him up to visit now although I'm not surprised you say that the town has a different feel when the students aren't there and this could just make things worse!

DH used to do admissions at Oxford and has spoken to a few people who have said his chances aren't good. I think he knows that if he'd got his predicted three a* then he could have reapplied, but another rejection would just leave him a year on with nothing.

The other thing is he has said he definitely doesn't want to get a job while he's studying, so to me that kind of counts London out. I don't know anyone who studies there and doesn't work or pretty much live at home.

Thanks everyone.
Dreaming DD has only applied to our local uni, she doesn't want to leave home and doesn't want to look at any other degree at it.
If she doesn't get in she has a place at college to do 2 fast track A levels, and she will try for university again next year.

Hassled · 20/08/2016 11:18

Coco - I'm so sorry you're still at the hideous pending stage - and sorry for everyone stuck in a limbo. At this stage the waiting must feel interminable - it was bad enough just in the run up to Thursday.

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 11:50

DD thinks who she spoke too was a switchboard operator so I'm not sure he should have been making predictions Hmm

Just5minswithDacre · 20/08/2016 11:53

Probably not, but equally, switchboard operators probably do have a good insight into what's going on, so maybe it's grounds to be cautiously hopeful?

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 11:55

I'm too scared to be hopeful BlushGrin

SecretSquirrils · 20/08/2016 11:55

Cocolpew I think she may be mistaken about speaking to a switchboard operator. A student I know has been working on the clearing phone lines for the last few days. They have access to all kinds of information and have a good idea what is being accepted and what isn't. Hopefully for your DD that's the case at her uni.

Cocolepew · 20/08/2016 11:56

Hopefully Secret, thanks.

ReadyToSignOff · 20/08/2016 14:54

Does anyone have any idea of how long a priority remark takes through Edexcel please? I know that it will be done before 31st August, but wondered if anybody has had any recent experience and can give me a rough idea. Thank you Smile

tropicalfish · 20/08/2016 17:58

Hi
In addition to Readytosignoffs question, does anyone know whether you can request to be sent a copy of the marked paper before ordering a remark ? It doesnt matter if its a non priority remark.
Many thanks
tf

exexpat · 20/08/2016 18:50

tropicalfish - yes, you can just request a copy of the exam script before deciding whether you want to go for a remark. DS has requested a copy of the history paper he did badly in, more out of interest than any plan to challenge the mark (it doesn't really make any difference to his plans). I think it costs £13.10 just for a copy (may depend on exam board).

tropicalfish · 20/08/2016 20:39

hi
exexpat thanks for your reply. DD seems not to be too bothered about it but she says you need to pay for a priority paper return in order to get it back in time to get a remark before the final remark deadline.
TF

Waitingforsherlock · 20/08/2016 22:07

tropical. We are ordering a priority request for a paper. Perhaps a subject teacher can go through it with her, then if they see fit it can be sent for a remark.

Janjanmama · 21/08/2016 01:32

Ready my dd's priority remark is proceeding, Edexcel too. Her teacher said normally it takes five days but he thinks result can be returned next Monday.

Janjanmama · 21/08/2016 01:33

i.e. August 22 the earliest

Thank you ❤️
Still no word. The longer it goes on the less chance, I think, she has of getting a place.
