Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

Oh, Random, that must have been so difficult. I spent ages going through clearing options with DS yesterday evening, so he was prepared just in case. I guess that would have been difficult for you to do without your DD guessing he results. Or had you managed to keep the fact you knew them away from her?

In any case, I'm glad she found a good clearing course. Flowers

RandomMess · 18/08/2016 21:05

I still haven't told DD I knew in advance, she is back living with her Dad hence I needed to go pick up her results etc. I don't think I'd have looked her up if I wasn't getting to know them first anyway!

It could have got the Uni into serious trouble if I had divulged early plus I suppose it would be gross misconduct...

blinkowl · 18/08/2016 21:27

Did a 12 hour shift on the clearing / offers lines today. Great to be able to offer people places.

I'm not allowed to say what the grades are, but for some courses they are offering significantly lower than the original published requirements for the course.

My advice would be to call the unis you really want (assuming UCAS shows they have places for relevant courses in clearing) even if you think it might be out of your reach, as you never know.

BestIsWest · 18/08/2016 21:42

I really don't know if DS has done the right thing in turning down his insurance place. He is determined to go to his first choice next year though. He has had a tough couple of years with a serious back injury which is still not sorted so in my eyes he's done remarkably well.

zazas · 18/08/2016 22:11

My DD also headed out to night although doesn't quite feel she's entitled to be out celebrating... So an update (if anyone's interested Smile ) is that no one in her History class, 18 students got higher than a D overall with some getting a U! They now feel that the group only had one of the two questions marked/ totalled up and therefore they have been given a final grade on only 50% of their marks. Each section was worth 60 and no one's final score is higher than 59 out of 120. My DD was marked 57. Something strange has happened and obviously really upsetting for those who have lost offers... We could all do without the drama and the wait to see what happens... Has anyone else ever heard of this happening?

Mindgone · 18/08/2016 22:18

Nickyeds, three years ago, DS1 resat stats with his A2s. He was so confident that he had an A in his AS, but got a D! He joined Y12 stats lessons, as he had free periods then, and got an A in it second time around! Good luck

Waitingforsherlock · 18/08/2016 22:27

Feeling exhausted too. Reading of pp in bed by 8.30, that sounds lovely.

What a day, hearing of my ds's friend's triumphs and tears, a few missed their grades and will be taking a gap year, others have done incredibly well. So proud of my boy who has had a really tough year and had planned a gap anyway so I'm glad that he didn't have the added pressure of reaching certain grades. It is so tough for them and if things don't go to plan clearing must feel so frenzied, ( I remember it well).

Hopefully all dc's will enjoy themselves tonight and get a bit more sleep than last night, when they finally get in.....

Cocolepew · 18/08/2016 22:29

If thats what he wants, Best I'd be happy to let him.
Its good he knows what exactly he wants to do.
Hope he recovers well from his injury Flowers

justdontevenfuckingstart · 18/08/2016 22:31

zazas dd2 got 80 and 85 i think but was expecting 90's. was marked much lower than was expected I think. Dd1 had said history was going to get hammered. Dd2 really thinks she did a lot better than her grades.

justdontevenfuckingstart · 18/08/2016 22:34

Aargh that was for psychology not history soo sorry but same premise. Feels very marked down.

zazas · 18/08/2016 22:47

justdontevenfuckingstart I appreciate that sometimes results aren't as expected but surely not for a whole class? Well we are hoping that doesn't happen?!

hennipenni · 18/08/2016 22:48

zazas can I ask which exam board your daughter's history was? My DD is going to e-mail her history tutor tomorrow as she dropped several grades from her predicted grade for history. All her practise papers came back at A or A* and her AS level was A, yet her 2 A2 papers were marked as E's.

zazas I am agreeing with you! Sorry that didn't come across. There have been a lot of shock results I think from what I have seen.

clam · 18/08/2016 23:41

Re: History. Dd did EdExcel and although her overall mark was good enough, she got an E in one paper that she really thought she'd done well in. She'd been getting As and Bs throughout. Think it was the American history paper? A re-mark won't make a difference, so I think she should not rock the boat, but it's a personal niggle for her.

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 18/08/2016 23:49

Yep - loads of people missing expected A*s and far more Cs than usual around here.

zazas · 19/08/2016 00:06

hennipenni it was AQA not sure which unit off top of head. My DD thought the exam had gone very well and would have been disappointed with a C...but an E is very unusual. Even more upsetting are those with a U, which the teachers are incredulous about. Sorry to hear about your DD's history result too...

goingmadinthecountry · 19/08/2016 00:35

This is the first year since 2009 none of mine have had GCSE, ASs or A levels, and I have till 2020 with baby dc4. University exams are far less stressful. Wishing you all a peaceful evening. After 3 children I feel your pain/joy/worry/elation/panic. It all works out OK x

NanaNina · 19/08/2016 00:57

Raspberry you sound just a tad smug, sorry and no I haven't got kids with poor A level results but a grand-daughter awaiting GCSEs next Thursday.

raspberryrippleicecream · 19/08/2016 01:14

I'm sorry, Nana it wasn't meant to be. It was actually written and should have been posted several pages back in the middle of some other similar results. Thevthread had moved on since then and I hadn't kept up. Apologies.

BestIsWest · 19/08/2016 05:40

Thank you coco. I'm very proud of him for being so positive.

Hope your DD gets her place. Has she heard yet?

My fab Neice got her first choice ( ironically the same uni DS has just rejected) so over the moon for her.

BestIsWest · 19/08/2016 05:42

Raspberry I don't think you sound smug at all, just overjoyed and quite rightly proud of your DS.

As we all should be, this is a thread for supporting each other, good news or bad.

ohdearme1958 · 19/08/2016 06:05

Raspberry you don't sound smug at all.

It's just NastyNina being her usual self.

A big well done to your son.

blinkowl · 19/08/2016 06:05

Raspberry ignore Nans, how joyless. You didn't sound smug at all IMO, just rightly proud.

I enjoyed reading about your DS's success, thanks for posting. Well done him!

Cherryburn · 19/08/2016 06:47

Interesting to hear of others with lower than usual History grades. DD got very high UMS in both AS papers last year (both over 95) and full marks in her course work but scored a mid-B in one paper this year meaning she got an A but missed the A* she was predicted.

She made her offer anyway (needed 3 A's and got 2 A*s and 2 A's) so it makes no difference from that point of view but school have suggested she gets a re-mark which I think she'll go for as she has nothing to lose.

Sorry to any DC that have missed offers because of it-hope any re-marks go in their favour.
