Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

So sorry hairy have a look at not going to uni It is a good site to see what other options are out there for those who don't want to go through clearing. You might want to have a look first and if you think it might be helpful then you could suggest it if he doesn't want to do clearing.
There is also the option of doing a foundation degree in many places and then upgrading to the batchelors later.

Northernlurker · 18/08/2016 10:14

Hairy it WILL work out. Horrible for you just now but this too will pass. I hope school are helpful.

Dd is going to Dundee. She just mentioned she'd picked her colour for the stethoscope and I cried because for the first time we know she'll actually be using it!

Cocolepew · 18/08/2016 10:15

Hope it works out for him Hairy.
DD still hasn't got a place, but hasn't yet been denied one either Confused
They are processing the higher grade applicants and she might still get a place. It might be Friday or saturday before she knows though Shock!
She's happy to go to college if she doesn't get in, but it would be nice to know Hmm

hairymairyfromthedairy · 18/08/2016 10:15

Thanks both - he hasn't got enough points for a foundation degree at the moment - will have a look at that link eat thanks - it's hard to think past not going to uni when that's all you've been focussed on for the last 2 years

Hassled · 18/08/2016 10:16

Hairy, I'm sorry - fingers crossed that clearing works out.

Hassled · 18/08/2016 10:16

dreamingofsun · 18/08/2016 10:17

anyone who didn't get the right grades - my oldest didn't and went through clearing and ended up at a better uni than his insurance offer (who were humming and haring). And that was the last year of cheap tuition fees - all is not lost.

hairymairyfromthedairy · 18/08/2016 10:17

Thanks coco sorry there's more waiting for your dd - this whole thing is a nightmare & I've got another dc to go through it all yet - don't think my heart can take it!!

ReadyToSignOff · 18/08/2016 10:18

Well at least DS won't be following Plan C and applying for bomb disposal! He is 2UMS in Physics off his first choice of Mechatronics and Robotics at Leeds (they will take him if he gets bumped up to ABB with a remark through clearing, but otherwise not) but has his insurance offer from Sheffield for Electronic Engineering. Leeds is MEng and Sheffield is BEng, but he feels sure that if he does well they will extend it to MEng. Is it worth risking a remark for Leeds? We have to apply for accommodation at Sheffield too.... anyone have advice please?

ReadyToSignOff · 18/08/2016 10:19

Meant to say congratulations to those children who are sorted and good luck to all who are now in the process of finding out what happens next xx

Peebles1 · 18/08/2016 10:21

DD got her firm. So relieved and happy for her.

Actual grades were low but we were facing possible fails after a very tough few years for her, so absolutely over the moon for her that she's got in. A fresh start and a new opportunity.

Congrats to all who've got what they wanted and hugs for those facing uncertainty - hoping things work out.

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 18/08/2016 10:22

Ready, at 2 under he can't go down. If Leeds will hold his place you should be able to get a priority re-mark because your place depends on it.

eatyourveg · 18/08/2016 10:23

Congrats ready I would go for Sheffield with the masters loans now he might want the freedom to go somewhere else for his 4th year.

oenophilia · 18/08/2016 10:25

still being kept in the dark here but at least DS is awake. We've even had post. I took him up a letter which was franked from his firm offer uni and was told to throw it to him (in his bed) and go away. Should be working this morning but finding it rather difficult to concentrate...

LauraAshleyDuvetCover · 18/08/2016 10:26

DB is fed up - he's classed as a near miss, so they might accept him later today.

He needed AAM2, but has ABD1 - if he'd just had an AAB offer it would have been fine because D1 is higher than M2. And the B is in the subject that's least related to the course.

He's even more annoyed that school persuaded him to change to a 'safer' insurance he doesn't like and he'd have got into the original 'risky' one!

truemovies · 18/08/2016 10:30

Hairy Really these things do work out in the end. It doesn't mean he won't go to University, it just means he might not be going this year. If he doesn't, it gives him a chance to get off the roller coaster and completely take stock of what he wants to do and where he might be headed eventually. Sometimes this allows for young people to really engage with life and make better decisions than they would have previously.

If he wants to go to university and he's got you to support him, he will. One failure will not stop prevent that. Please keep us updated as there're lot of support Smile

Diglet · 18/08/2016 10:32

oenophilia That must be ridiculously frustrating. I hope he is ok.

Thanks true that is very wise advice I think it's unlikely he's going to be going this year now but he is still keen to go - with the grades as they stand (no remark) he won't even get a clearing place I don't think

Just5minswithDacre · 18/08/2016 10:38

It might be Friday or saturday before she knows though

It's a harsh system isn't it? I hope she's bearing up okay.

A girl at the school (I've just got back) is stuck in something called the 'summer pool' for Cambridge, and also accepted for her (prestigious) insurance offer, which she won't confirm until she knows what's up with the firm offer. So in some ways quite lucky, but nevertheless stuck in horrible limbo for god knows how long. I'd never even heard of 'summer pool'.

I wish someone would push a post-results application system through and put an end to this stressful system.

IceBeing · 18/08/2016 10:46

hairy is it really out of the blue? Is there any chance he might do better if re-sitting in a years time?

cathyandclare · 18/08/2016 10:46

Well done all! Fantastic news, have been lurking and preparing for next year with DD2
DD1 was in the Cambridge Summer pool it is a whole new level of torture and hanging around with heart in mouth. You're put in if you're a near-miss and wait and see if you get fished out by another college.
Horrid!
DD wasn't finished but her grades went up on remark and she'd at her first choice college now.
It was a horrific weekend though Flowers and a bucket of Wine to all those getting remarks and looking at clearance.

cathyandclare · 18/08/2016 10:46

clearing!!!

Just5minswithDacre · 18/08/2016 10:48

Horrid indeed Sad

Diglet · 18/08/2016 10:50

I wish someone would push a post-results application system through and put an end to this stressful system.

It's stressful, unfair, time consuming and expensive.

All in all its a really stupid system.
