My dd was visiting a friend at another uni this weekend & travelling via London so we arranged to meet her for lunch. First she was late as left something at friends halls so had to backtrack. Then when we were discussing what we might have time to do after lunch she checked her ticket & realised she had got the time totally wrong. She rushed off to try to make the train but missed it. We caught up with her again & went for coffee but she we had to pay again for the new ticket. As it was considerably more than the original ticket it's been an expensive day. But lovely to see her of course.

We've seen a lot more of her this term so it has gone quicker. She's back in a fortnight for the Easter break

Feels a bit weird with a lot of them being away on Mother's Day doesn't it?

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 19:03

About to listen to dd2 in concert on the radio. ury.org.uk/

Horsemad · 06/03/2016 19:03

It does Littleham, DS has been away for 3 family birthdays already and it is a strange feeling when doing the candles and singing not to have him here.

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 19:09

I know. I wish I could go to this concert in person but it is so far away. It is nice that they put it on the radio. If you want some classical music while doing any jobs feel free to listen in with me this evening.

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 19:12

......running late though!

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 19:21

Drums fingers.... 7.30pm now.

Horsemad · 06/03/2016 20:22

Think I missed itSad do they have a catch up facility?

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 20:24

still on....second half about to start.

Decorhate · 06/03/2016 20:26

Horsemad we have only had one family birthday that dd missed - we Facetimed her for the birthday cake bit. I think she minded missing out eating a piece!

We won't see her on her birthday this year for the first time ever & that will be hard

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 20:32

Luckily dd's birthday is in summer so I won't miss it. That will be really hard for you Decorate.

5 minute bell so just playing a pop song atm.

NiceCardigan · 06/03/2016 20:43

It was strange not seeing DS on his birthday but it was just before the Christmas holidays so we took him out for dinner when he came home.

Haffdonga · 06/03/2016 20:55

DS has just rung me to say he has just been punched in the face by an apparently homeless guy as he walked down the main uni road from library to his hall. He had his headphones on and was looking at his phone so it was a totally unprovoked and unexpected attack. I've told him to report to 101. Sad

1234Littleham · 06/03/2016 20:57

Shock Hope he is ok. How horrible.

Haffdonga · 06/03/2016 21:07

Thank yo. He sounds OK, if a bit irritated by my fussing on the phone.

Decorhate · 06/03/2016 21:13

How worrying Haff. I hate that dd wears headphones so much when running. Hard to know someone is approaching.

Her birthday is in May so she will be revising plus s1 has GCSEs so unlikely we can meet up

MrsBartlet · 07/03/2016 06:35

How awful Haff. Hope he is ok.

I found it very strange not having dd here yesterday. Still had a lovely Mother's Day as we had my parents over for dinner. I saw dd last week when I was in her university town for work - she turned up for coffee with me with a gift bag full of mother's day presents. Ds still managed to organise some flowers and chocolates for yesterday.

Dd's birthday is in May so we won't see her on her actual birthday but as it is a Friday I expect we will visit her on the Saturday. I guess we have to get used to life being like this from now on! Still, she is coming home for Easter on Saturday - hurrah! Hope you all had a lovely day yesterday.

voilets · 07/03/2016 18:16

How horrid Halfdonga. I hope he gets over shock easily - really not what you want!

My DS doesn't go in for commercialism - so no card!!! Sad

We went to see him yesterday though - and he did wish me a happy day and we had a natter. He really did not need us though- thought he might as week before was stressed with so much coursework. Good thing - but I'm becoming more redundant by the day Smile

Haffdonga · 07/03/2016 18:25

Thanks for the well wishes for ds. He's not answered my messages asking how he is today so I can only assume he's fine. Hmm

This parenting via text gig isn't always easy.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 07/03/2016 18:46

Glad to hear he is okay Haff -
I agree parenting from afar isn't easy!! I've been to visit my DD today and OH. MY. GOD. - the state of the kitchen!!!! I went to reception and reported them!! IT WAS DISGUSTING!! So whilst I was out with my daughter the flat had a kitchen inspection and FAILED!! Smile

Headofthehive55 · 07/03/2016 18:52

Oh hope he is ok haff.
My DD came home for the day. Such a lovely surprise when the door opened!

Leeds2 · 07/03/2016 19:32

That made me smile, Quietly! Does your DD and her flat mates know it was you that reported them?

Horsemad · 07/03/2016 20:00

Shock Hope your DS is OK and not to shaken up Haff.

I did LOL at your post Quietly!!! Grin

Quietlygoingmad67 · 07/03/2016 21:12

My DD is the tidy one to be fair -
She gets so fed up with the mess! So she knows but the flat mates won't as all student flats get ad hoc kitchen inspections!
