Suspect all have arrived by now...

Horsemad , Ds1's experience with King's agency was not good and it took our involvement to get them to take notice. There seem to be a lot of landlords in Southampton who own a number of properties and the conditions are often very poor. I lived in dodgy student houses but ds's first house was pretty grim! This is probably not just a Southampton problem.

Horsemad · 31/12/2015 11:19

Thanks Fairenuff & Millais.

He's made friends there, but is very non committal when I ask about sharing, etc.
Ideally, I think he'd like the set up he has now in halls - en suite!!! Grin

I'll tell him to steer clear of Kings, Millais! Wink

PUGaLUGS · 02/01/2016 19:43

DS has done no socialising except with us. Slept late into the day most days but when he has been up he has been very helpful around the house and has done some revision for an exam on the 8th. He is going up the night before and will come back after the exam as he doesn't actually need to be back until the 18th.

I have just used his NUS card to order him some jeans (may as well get the discount seen as I am paying Grin).

His house share is all sorted. There are three floors with two kitchens and three bathrooms. He moves in on the 2nd July.

Horsemad am Grin about wanting ensuite, think DS would like that too!

MrsB that's good - 3 years college accommodation.

Horsemad · 03/01/2016 20:59

DS has gone back this evening. House feels weird without him...

Decorhate · 03/01/2016 22:07

Oh that is early Horsemad. We have dd for another week. She has a few days work lined up.

Fairenuff · 03/01/2016 22:58

Dd went yesterday. She was the only one back in her flat but I expect most came back today.

Pug I used dd's card to get the discount on Christmas presents too. As you say, might as well.

Quietlygoingmad67 · 03/01/2016 23:57

Erm shhhh don't tell anyone but I used UNidays to get Apple education discount on DD2 birthday present Grin

muffinmonster · 04/01/2016 10:27

DD is not going back till Sunday 10th - she has exams starting on (I think) the 15th. Revision seems to have been piecemeal so far - hopefully she'll get some serious work done this week.

She and some of her current flatmates have signed up for rooms in a shared flat next year - it's like uni halls but privately run and just a stone's throw from campus. So she will still have an ensuite!

Fairenuff · 04/01/2016 10:33

That sounds lovely muffin. Dd is so laid back she will end up getting whatever is left over so I'm anticipating some mouldy, cramped, ancient apartment with dodgy plumbing. Still it's her who has to live there not me.

She text last night to say that she has a month off over Easter. This year will be over before we know it.

circular · 04/01/2016 20:19

DD returned yesterday, back on timetable today. 3 week break went so quick, and friends at home all seem to have another week.

Believe exams start next week, but more stressed about house hunting.

DS delivered on Saturday (he was going to take the train, but there was engineering work on his line and it would have taken hours longer)
He has 3 exams this week, before term proper starts next week
He has started thinking about accommodation, but not got as far as arranging anything yet.

1234Littleham · 05/01/2016 12:57

Hello again. My dd2 has just gone back. All going very well. No exams and she has a house for next year.

dd1 at home until next week but still needs to organise her accommodation for next year.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Cooroo · 05/01/2016 13:13

DD doesn't go back till the 18th! Has been a little subdued over Christmas, but out a lot with friends and worked between xmas and new year. Apparently no exams, no assignments so god knows what she'll do with the next fortnight apart from sleeping. Fingers crossed some more work shifts will materialise.

marvik · 07/01/2016 10:42

Have name-changed, after getting thoroughly bashed up on another thread.

Taking my daughter back on Saturday. It's been an odd holiday. Lots of good things, but have also realised that part of me had adapted to her not being around.

And now she's more grownup in some respects, but in other respects just wanting to be a kid who is looked after by her Mum and Dad.

The Easter holiday is a longer one and the terms are quite short. So while I've no doubt I'll miss her again, it'll be easier.

I've had the chance to meet a couple of her university friends - including new boyfriend - which has been good.

hellsbells99 · 07/01/2016 12:12

Hope you are ok Marvik - Mumsnet should be about support not bashing!
DD is still here until 17th and then back for exams and placement - official lectures not starting until 1st Feb. The first term was a long term at 13 weeks. We have a few hiccups but she is looking forward to going back and is revisiting hard for her exams. She hasn't sorted out accommodation for next year yet.

1234Littleham · 07/01/2016 13:29

That's a shame Marvik.

My dd has just done some volunteering in a school (she organised it through the university career office) as she thinks she might want to be a teacher. She really enjoyed it. Her university is the opposite hellsbells. Short first term and long second term.

Eldest dd studying at home for exams & going back this weekend.

PUGaLUGS · 07/01/2016 19:25

Hope you are ok Marvick

DS has just been delivered to the station by DH, he is off to uni overnight for an exam first thing tomorrow. I am picking him up from the station tomorrow afternoon. He starts back on the 18th. We will take him up as I will freeze some homemade meals for him to take and he wants to take his tv up.

bevelino · 07/01/2016 19:34

Reading some of the posts here is so heart warming and reassuring and I am not half as scared now about my 4 girls heading off to uni. Eldest hopes to start this year and triplets in 2018. I have got my work cutout.

Horsemad · 07/01/2016 19:41

Woohoo, triplets going off to Uni Smile I met a lady at an Open Day a couple of years ago who had triplets going the next year; I was in awe as my DS was a sod with all the Uni application stuff and all I could think of was 'thank God I haven't got 3 going at once like you' !!! Grin

That will be a busy time bevelino! Grin

voilets · 07/01/2016 20:10

Nice to here all you news everyone.

Horrid Marvik - enjoy mumsnet and well done for changing name to avoid nonsense.

My Ds is back. Exams today. Coming home at weekend to see a friend who can help him with exam on Monday.

He has a group project during exam weeks which has thrown him - says he has to take a few days off or he will collapse with stress.we are allowing it reluctantly as we don't want him to get ill. But he never missed more than a day a year off school. Has missed no uni yet but plans to miss a few days.

Says exams have gone well which takes a little worry away.

To be honest it has been a bit stressful sending Ds off to uni - I've needed to be on hand quite a lot. Hopefully all worth it in the end. Sigh!

Fairenuff · 07/01/2016 20:24

violets when dd was doing her A levels she had the odd day off before an exam so that she could rest and not get too stressed.

Sometimes it's necessary for their physical and mental wellbeing.

Dd has surprised me by getting a house share organised. She's found somewhere to rent with 3 other girls and they are planning on signing the tenancy agreement tomorrow Shock

Horsemad · 07/01/2016 20:28

Very organised, Fairenuff!

Fairenuff · 07/01/2016 20:33

It's not really her Horse, the girls she is sharing with have sprung into action. Luckily for dd, they are organised and proactive types Grin

We have the minefield of tenancy ageements to deal with now. Anyone know what the pitfalls are?

HocusCrocus · 08/01/2016 01:32

Fairenuff, haven't had to encounter this with DS but there a few threads if you search e.g. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/2521659-Second-Year-Accommodation-Joint-Several-Contracts?msgid=57991117 which seem to deal with some of the potential pitfalls. Not from personal experience but hope it helps.

Fairenuff · 08/01/2016 08:19

That's very helpful, thanks Hocus x
