vodkaredbullgirl · 21/09/2015 15:09

Got a text complaining about the weather this morning (she's only gone 25 miles away!). Since then silence. No FB updates, nothing. I think it was societies fair today and she was planning to take up pole dancing! Dammit I want to know what she's doing!!

Still here, still shopping Grin DD spent weeks finding an army costume for the army bop...only to get an email telling them all it's a superhero bop instead! Arghhhhhhh.

Cooroo · 22/09/2015 06:59

Mumslife - mine is still a sharer! Asked tentatively how day went to get some actual course-related news! Criminology lecturer is awesome, says fuck a lot, she is convinced she has made right choice! Just an introductory talk I think but so glad she's remembered she's there to study!

hellsbells99 · 22/09/2015 07:34

Hi all. Glad our DCs are getting on ok.
DD text very late last night, asking if I was still awake I was once her text woke me. Why? All her sockets had stopped working in the room. Turned out her hairdryer had been on for ages and tripped the fuse box. Managed to get her sorted she was only bothered because she couldn't charge her phone.
She had her first day at uni yesterday and said it went well. She didn't finish until 4pm so is now being kept busy. She managed to link up with 2 students on her course to get the bus with. Today is 10 until 3.30 and the she is going over to the societies fair.
She has text to say she is meeting up with her boyfriend for 1 night this weekend - I would rather she had left it another week but she is obviously missing him, and she is making an effort to mix and go out every night so I suppose it won't do any harm.

50 min phone call last night, DH answered & I thought something might be wrong but he just wanted to chat Smile I think he was a bit lonely. So, we both had a good long chat with him. His flat mates seem a bit quiet, but most didn't arrive until Sunday and so missed the Welcome Party.
It'll take time to settle I guess. I told him to knock on doors and offer hot chocolate!
Wish someone would knock on MY door and offer! Grin They'd be a friend for life. Smile

I'm not hearing much from DD but got this beauty by text yesterday afternoon -
*There's a bazillion people and everyone is really friendly and there's so much going on and I really really like it.
*
So I guess it's all good!

circular · 22/09/2015 07:59

Getting lots of detail here. Hooing it's because she genuinely wants to share, rather than homesickness. Think she's been in contact with BF every day (though not met up yet) and friends at home too.
DD been out every night, kept away from the heavy drinking and one night never drank at all. Tried 'clubbing' and hates it as much as she suspected.
Freshers Pass would have been a waste of money too, so much non-clubby stuff going on that appeals more.
Had introductory course meeting, loves everyone on her course. Guessing likely to socialise with them more than flatmates. Getting along with them, but all very different. Either party animals or very quiet - no in between pub and chat types like her. Mixing with flat next door too, suspect it will be quite noisy with crowds and drinking games going on around her. Hope it calms a bit once courses start.
Dont think the societies fayre is till later in the week.

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/09/2015 08:14

I rang my daughter last night but not answer, did get a txt to say she would ring later. Spent 10 mins on the phone, she is enjoying herself getting to know her flat mates. They all went to watch rugby sunday and then to an asia meal later that evening.

They had the lecture about not drinking too much alcohol and if anyone is caught doing drugs they are out on their ear. She is still waiting for them to come and fix her toilet seat and she said her mini fridge was freezing stuff.

Luckly my dd isnt into drink or clubbing but im sure that night change.

muffinmonster · 22/09/2015 08:22

Feeling envious of those of you with sharers I have had a few texts and all seems OK, which is good, but I am desperate for details!

PUGaLUGS · 22/09/2015 09:04

Love the toilet story Horsemad Grin

muffin I haven't had many details either and what I have had it's me doing the asking. We have used whatsappop quite a bit - can tell when he has been online with this too. Just looked now and it's says last online 8.02am - at least I know he is awake for this mornings 9.00am start!

He was in 1pm till 4pm yesterday and said one of his tutors is just like Mad Eye Moody from Harry Potter Grin. He said they spent the afternoon going through modules.

I asked if he was fed up of eating convenience food and he quickly replied "nope". Ah well it is still a novelty I suppose...

whoreandpeace · 22/09/2015 09:25

I am envying people who have already done the drop off. It really is an organisational marathon - goodness, yes it is!

DD phoned this morning "can't talk, please email the PDF of my driving licence...". Guess she is doing some kind of registration this morning then -although goodness knows how she was up. I woke at 5 this morning to find a video selfie she had sent me on WhatsApp at 4.00 am showing her and her flatmate dancing on the decks with the DJ at some club (guess they'd been invited up). "It's been the best night of my life.." DH had obviously also woken earlier than me as he had replied "glad you are taking full advantage of a university education".

I am snorting at the toilet story and have had to call DH to read the post to him!

This week feels weird, after all the preparations.
Ugh, might have to do some housework now!

vodkaredbullgirl · 22/09/2015 11:59

Ive cleared some of the attic and going to put some of my dds stuff up there, till she gets a place of her own.

Now the rest of the house is a mess and needs doing.

Horsemad · 22/09/2015 12:24

I've stripped his bed and need to box everything up that he's left as the room is being gutted and redecorated. It will still be his room, but also needs to work as a spare/my room when DH snores too loud! Grin

lubeybooby · 22/09/2015 12:46

my DD is doing really well. Bless her I'm so proud of her - she has really overcome anxiety this last year or so with CBT and ditching a crappy bf.

I've spent £42 in postage over the last 2 days sending stuff she forgot to pack Hmm

Have any of your kids got their student finance through yet? Was due yesterday but apparently no sign of it still.

I miss her so much. Silly really as a single mum I'm used to her spending up to 2/3 weeks with her dad sometimes and it's only been a few days

onadifferentplanet · 22/09/2015 13:16

Ds registered last Thursday and got his finance this morning. If your dd looks on her student finance account it should say submitted once she has registered on her course and it then takes 3 working days.

lubeybooby · 22/09/2015 13:18

ok.. is registering the same as enrolling?
