Do we have a thread already?
ds1 has decided to definitely apply to Oxford to do Biochemistry. He will probably apply to St John's.

AAB and CCC students are not looking at the same courses in clearing. Most likely (given the lack of restrictions on student numbers) there will again be many good universities entering clearing for AAA+ courses. I don't believe AAB students would find it hard to get into a top ten university for most subjects in clearing. But option (3) (re-apply in a gap year) in any case has many advantages to it.

I also don't believe that the high offers will all be enforced on results day. Of course this depends on many factors but Exeter cannot afford to turn away AAA or AAA students who had just missed As. (Their student numbers are in crisis point for their less popular subjects and humanities has to meet the required targets.)

Mimsy ,
Thanks for that. Much as you might hate to talk them up , imagine how I feel with a DS who has applied to them (also ex UCL Grin ) . He has, though , also applied to UCL and is waiting to hear. He might be in exactly position Brenda describes.

HocusUcas · 05/11/2014 12:55

Figment - had a look at that link and despite my comment above Smile it does look like the kind of thing DS would be really interested in.

HocusUcas · 05/11/2014 12:56

Figment - Thank you - I will show it to him .

Figmentofmyimagination · 05/11/2014 13:06

ELAT was "ok" although thinks her practice paper was better - well at least she did one... She's just pleased to have it out of the way. It is all so subjective that I am not sure you can really tell.

Figmentofmyimagination · 05/11/2014 13:22

Also, Kings is most definitely the coolest in terms of learning about progressive industrial policy, unlike the LSE, which is now just an exceptionally sophisticated recruitment agency for the banking sector (in my humble and not at all contentious opinion).

RandomFriend · 05/11/2014 13:37

Well done to all the DCs that took a test today. Just by being there at a test shows that they are right up there.

As for knowing how well they did, I think it is very hard for them to judge. Having written something is a very good sign. Having found it hard is not a bad sign at all. The tests are designed to make the candates think.

A colleague of mine, who is an academic with an affiliation at one of the colleges, says that it is no shame not to get in and that there are many paths to a great future.

AtiaoftheJulii · 05/11/2014 13:54

Yes thanks Figment, I've sent that link to my dd2, think she'll find lots to interest her there.

Littleham · 05/11/2014 16:34

Thanks RandomFriend. I like that quote about aiming for the moon and falling among the stars. She got a lot down and approached it in an unusual way! Apparently she still has to try and prepare for the interview and re-read her books just in case, so I'll stay on the thread a bit longer for moral support.

RandomFriend · 05/11/2014 17:00

Getting a lot down and approaching it in an unusual way actually sounds very good. It should make them want to see her. What proportiion of candidate get interviewd for history?

Molio · 05/11/2014 17:20

The top 75% in the HAT get interviewed RF.

Decorhate · 05/11/2014 18:07

Hope everyone's dc's got on ok today. My dd (BMAT) doesn't really have a clue how she did

QueenQueenie · 05/11/2014 18:14

Hi again Decorhate. Ds thought S1 was less awful than the 2013 paper, S2 was OK and S3 alright... make of that what you will. He's v pleased it's done though!

QueenQueenie · 05/11/2014 18:15

Sorry, that was BMAt too I was talking about...

Quenna · 05/11/2014 18:29

Anyone else's DC do the MAT today? DS says he doesn't know how it went, except that it was hard....

Oyster2 · 05/11/2014 18:53

Dd thought S1 easier than previous years but S2 not so good. Happy with the essay - Bmat. S2 was her better section in practice but for some reason didn't work out today. Just have to wait and see!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/11/2014 18:58

Dd said the physics was okayyyyyyy, she finished and had a good go at everything. She also says she has no idea how well she's done. She rushed off afterwards and hasnt caught up with everyone since. Her good friend was doing the BMAT.

Glad it's done, and now if it's meant to be, it will be.

She's currently trying to twerk n the kitchen. Hmm

Decorhate · 05/11/2014 19:07

My dd said those doing the MAT at her school thought it was hard

MissMillament · 05/11/2014 21:27

DD was happy with ELAT but thought MLAT was hard. But who knows really.

webwiz · 05/11/2014 21:29

Well done everyone that survived the day!

DS is sorting out his school essays for Cambridge but I'm a bit baffled as to why its taking so long to actually send them Confused

Littleham · 05/11/2014 21:30

I had to post my dd's essay. Nearly sent it special delivery, but restrained myself.

webwiz · 05/11/2014 21:38

DS said this evening he has to upload them to his college account I was under the impression they were going to be posted. I may have to demand to see the relevant email.

Littleham · 05/11/2014 21:40

Perhaps it is different for each college.

MissMillament · 05/11/2014 21:43

DD has been dithering about what to send. I think she has decided now. They need to be posted on Friday, so I bloody hope so.

webwiz · 05/11/2014 21:48

DS picked what to send weeks ago so I'm not quite sure what the faff is about.
