Thought we might need a new thread for the results...

We had five phones on the go to get through to Bristol!! One tip - we got through to the main admissions number and they told us to call the Arts admission number directly. Still awaiting update from Bristol University on track.

Some good news here on my AS daughter - she got AABB (and got 90% in the subject she wants to do at university) so hopefully we may avoid this stress next year. She wants to apply to York. We will have A2's and GCSE's next year for dd2 and dd3.

Wow traceyinrosso - that is amazing news!

Littleham - she'd been calling the Geography admissions number directly, and has now got through thankfully. She was told straight away that she has a place, and that Track just hasn't updated yet! So she is very pleased indeed, but wants to see it confirmed there.

DD2 also had AS results today - and she got AAAA and wants to do Natural Sciences next year.

Champagne is cooling in the fridge for later.

Good Luck to those still waiting...

DS did not get onto his firm choice course, as grades not good enough (AAB), but the uni have offered him another course. He called to see if there was any chance to get onto original course but all the Physics courses are full.
He also has a offer for his insurance uni in his original subject, so he just has to decided between the two.
I thought I would be feeling less stressed today, but I guess once he has made the decision (and I get some sleep) I will feel better.

boys3 · 14/08/2014 13:08

congrats to all DCs who have got the grades they needed. Best of luck to those waiting on decisions still or following up opportunities in Clearing.

Still a bit of a rollercoaster here. DS1 just missed out on the A* he needed for Cambridge. The key paper in question, however had unexpectedly very low results (Cs and Ds for the paper across the entire class). It has already been submitted for a priority remark, and I'd imagine it either was a complete disaster - understandable for one or two DC in a class perhaps but probably not all of them - or there is something very wrong going on. Despite that almost all still had an A overall so good enough for most firm choices, but he needed just that bit more.

So nothing definitive as yet in terms of a Cambridge decision on Track. The school had already sent out them his detailed UMS scores yesterday. Not sure how quickly the remark process works.

That said he now thinks he'd prefer Durham anyway - today probably is not the day for that kind of decision to be set in stone though.

Told on phone yes at firm choice with different grades (BCD VS CCC)
told not on track till tomorrow!

There we go 46Direct. Panic over, have some Wine and congrats!

TeaAndALemonTart · 14/08/2014 13:23

Lots of messages on FB saying their DCs missed either one or two grades but got into their first choice anyway.

itfcbabe · 14/08/2014 13:24

Hi hope it's for me to join this thread.
My son got ABB which is what he needed for Brunel to study Creative Writing .

Very happy here but tired,he is going back to bed.
Got GCSE's for another son next week hopefully he will get what he wants.

CakeUpWall · 14/08/2014 13:27

Phew! DS got into Oxford; he got AAAB (blooming chemistry!). College have suggested we go for a re-mark in maths, as they were fairly confident of an A and he only missed it by 1 mark. (Doesn't affect his offer though.)
He's gone back to bed. so have I
Thanks and Brew for everyone here, whatever stage of the proceedings you're at.

secretsquirrels · 14/08/2014 13:57

boys3 ouch that's tricky. At least they are still thinking about it and he has met his insurance offer. All still to play for but the waiting goes on.

I remember when the entire cohort at DS1's school did badly at GCSE French. Re- marks were asked for but it turned out to be the teacher had misunderstood something on the curriculum. No comfort to those expecting A*s and getting As.

BeckAndCall · 14/08/2014 13:58

We'll done everyone and good luck to those still 'on hold'

Glad to hear your DS got Warwick secret - I was rooting for him! Just met with a friend whose friend was in exactly the same position - missed Cambridge Step but going to Warwick but is happy about it.

boys3 · 14/08/2014 14:16

secret thanks, and well done to your DS on Warwick. He's received an acknowledgement from his college admissions who seem happy to await the outcome of this remark, with a second possibly to follow.

2rebecca · 14/08/2014 14:26

Glad most people's teenagers have got in somewhere. My son had an unconditional so wasn't bothered about last weeks Scottish results. He thought he'd failed maths AH as he stopped working and he had, the others were As and Bs though, no asterix grades up here.

PurpleAlert · 14/08/2014 15:02

Thrilled for my amazingly hardworking DD - got her first choice (Loughborough) even though one grade was a little lower than expected. Seems that grades are down this year - none of he friends got their expected grades but all got uni places without clearing. So relieved !

Littleham · 14/08/2014 15:55

Still inching through the system. Hopefully we will know about Bristol soon. Lady on phone made hopeful noises, but who knows? Hmm

We can't go into clearing until we have a clearing number, so sort of in limbo.

ajandjjmum · 14/08/2014 16:12

Horrible time Littleham - I remember feeling quite cheated that we could just open the champagne and celebrate, and still had several days of uncertainty to cope with. Fingers crossed you hear soon.

ajandjjmum · 14/08/2014 16:12

*could not

Littleham · 14/08/2014 16:15

Thanks. I'm very relieved they are making decisions so fast for us. Apparently some people will be in limbo until the 20th, so this situation is much better.

OP posts:
lalsy · 14/08/2014 16:23

Littleham, are there courses your dd would want in clearing at the moment? I hope you hear very soon.

Littleham · 14/08/2014 16:28

Yes - she has a list of about ten, including her original favourite kicking ourselves.

OP posts:
lalsy · 14/08/2014 16:34

Gosh, that is frustrating. That's a really unfair aspect of the system if you can't pursue other options while one dithers and punishment for doing so well you are very very close.

Littleham · 14/08/2014 16:37

Yes - frustrating. I think that the University may have made the decision now, so we are awaiting track now. Glad I'm not on my own on this thread. By the time I've finished there will probably be tumbleweed!

Well done to everyone's children who have got into uni, and Wine to those of you like me who have a Dc who missed their offer and are still trying to get things sorted.

DS got A, B for Spanish and Geology but got D for Geography, so that scuppered his chances of getting into Cardiff to do Geology. His Back-up uni has accepted him, but he's seeing what else is out there, and considering retaking as well.

He headed off to college to talk to the staff about his options (didn't want us with him, fair enough) at 10.30. And then seems to have done a tour of the county dropping in on friends, and has promised to be back for dinner before heading out to the clubs.

Hope you all have a more relaxing evening x
