If you didn't buy an Antilop high chair, why the hell not?!

Obviously this only applies to those who need a high chair!

Other than a Tripp Trapp, I can't see how any other high chair can beat the Antilop in any way. It's dirt cheap, easy to clean, easily stored, and comfy. You can get that little blow up thing to give them support when they are still little, and they last for ages.

Whenever we've been to cafes / restaurants / other homes that have a different style of highchair, my DS's have never looked comfortable.

So, tell me, if you discounted the Antilop, why????????????????

Because we used one from we had saved from dd, and it does not look very nice

DontmindifIdo · 01/09/2012 07:25

Because we bought a wooden chair so ds can eat at the table with us.

Because ikea trips usually are crisis points in our marriage, dh hates ikea with a passion and it takes a lot to make me drive all the way there (different county)

blackteaplease · 01/09/2012 07:28

Because ike a is.an hours drive away and we had mothecare vouchers so got a wooden one from there.

Northernlurkerisonholiday · 01/09/2012 07:31

My 5 yr old dd still uses our antilop. It's the right height for her at the dining room table and she loves it. It still looks like new. I agree it would survive anything.

Having seen the video of the tripp trapp falling over on youtube I wouldn't have that in the house.

Bellyjaby · 01/09/2012 07:34

We were given a beautiful old style wooden one. But when we started looking at travel ones we picked an antilop up. And when dd started feeding herself the large tray was great. Poor beautiful wooden one sits in a corner now looking sad!

LucyBorgia · 01/09/2012 07:44

Little helper fun pod high chair here as well. We have loved it because it's so versatile. Heavy though.... Dds cook with me all the time in the stand, little high chair brilliant for eating in the living Room at same level as everyone else ( so I hear.....terrible habit...Blush ) and I think it looks good with the rest of my furniture. No denying the affordable brilliance of the antilop though. I was a very excited first time mummy seduced by shiny things and budget came quite low on my list at the time.

vvviola · 01/09/2012 07:48

We were lent a chair for DD1 which was fine. Then we moved country, had to give the old chair back & needed a temporary chair (and a lot of other stuff!). Did an ikea run & picked up the antilop. Only bought the Tripp trapp when DD needed something she could get up & down on herself.

We're using the antilop for DD2. We spotted an incredible sale on the fancy highchairs, but realised we didn't need anything other than the antilop.

New (imported as there is no ikea here) they sell for about $70. I reckon second hand we'll nearly make back what we spent on it Grin

findingellywelly · 01/09/2012 07:57

I bought one, but my DD climbed out of it (she had the strap on) and had quite a nasty cut on her head! I had to buy a different one.

BeehavingBaby · 01/09/2012 08:02

I perceived mine to grow out of the Antilop at around 18mths - they were all heavy and the action to 'thread' them in to the chair was very hard on my back. I always say to people to use an antilop for the first year of eating and then get nicer junior chairs once kids are a little less messy Smile.

EdMcDunnough · 01/09/2012 08:04

Our Ikea is also miles away, but anyway I didn't really like the look of the Antilop - it looks like the legs might fall out? I'm sure that's not the case but it looked like it from the website. So that put me off.

Also I really liked our Kuster one, not so sure now I have it, it's very slippery and the cushion is rubbish. So I have a Polly as well, but really only for the low setting so I can put the baby in it as a sort of activity chair thing, and it reclines which I really like.

Thought about a Tripp Trapp but cannot justify it. Oh and we have an old wooden one too, which is really nice. We have high chair overload and we don't even eat at the table Blush

ObviouslyOblivious · 01/09/2012 08:04

I love mine and DS has been using it since 6 months. He's only just (at 19 months) shown any inclination to stand up in it. So we have the lap belt on nice and tight. It stops him :)

PeppermintCreams · 01/09/2012 08:08

Because we were given a brand new Mothercare monstrosity. Sad I wanted an Antilop or a Tripp Trapp, but you can't argue when something is free.

Silvercross doodle here. So, so versatile.

It can be used either as a 'pull up to the table' or a stand alone high chair. It can be a low chair that you can 'trap' them in using the tray or the low chair can be pulled up to the toddler table for either eating or doing activities.

I love it. Easy to clean and transport too.

Rubirosa · 01/09/2012 08:14

The cheap (£40?) trip trap type one we have has four legs on the floor rather than the Z shape of the real Trip Trap so tipping doesn't seem to be an issue. Used the harness that came with it til about 16 months, and then ds could climb up and down to it pretty much on his own Grin

Whenever I have used antilop's in a cafe they have been fine, but tricky to get him in and out of without catching his legs.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 01/09/2012 09:15

Your lucky oo my ds is 18 months and he has been laughing in the face of that belt for over a year!

Quite amusing to watch him bust out but a total pita!

COCKadoodledooo · 01/09/2012 10:34

Because ds wouldn't actually be able to sit to our table as his legs wouldn't go underneath. A table bought from Ikea, ironically. And honestly I don't remember seeing them when we needed to buy a high chair for ds1 over 8 years ago. We have a tripp trapp.

MrsFruitcake · 01/09/2012 10:42

Because it is so ugly and cheap looking.

Had a Chicco HappySnack for DS, which had a recline and removable, washable covers.

differentnameforthis · 01/09/2012 10:50

This Even tho dds are 9 & 4 (so the recall wasn't an issue when they were babies) the Antilop never really looked secure enough to me.

And the fact that they are ugly & aren't easily stored. We needed something that folded away.

AWomanCalledHorse · 01/09/2012 10:52

Because I would rather shag John Prescott then go into/buy Ikea ever again.
I also hate massive bits of baby plastic tat.

We've got a booster seat thing that attaches to a dining chair.

pictish · 01/09/2012 10:54

It's not ugly. It's totally ignorable.
Those big padded, over stuffed, Mamas and Papas type high chairs that dominate the kitchen are ugly.

pigletmania · 01/09/2012 11:08

How the heck can a 5 year old fit into an Antilope, it would not be safe and surely their knees are up to their face. At that age they should be abl to sit at the table on a normal chair

ExitStencilist · 01/09/2012 11:10

You might want to read the whole sentence piglet. : "Actually my 5 year old can fit in, though he obviously doesn't use it. "

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2012 11:13

Whoever was worried about the legs falling off, they click into place.

To get the tray off pull the back (baby side) of the tray up, rather than the front.

and there is no way they can tip,the legs are really far apart making it really really stable, though you do stub your toe on them all of the time.

yes it is ugly, but it goes in the dishwasher!

pigletmania · 01/09/2012 11:13

Oh right Exit. My dd5 is tall so could not really, ad as he is ASD would start rocking it tipping t over. No they are not fr me, op they are not everyone's taste, even though you love them
