Highchairs and baby seats

If you didn't buy an Antilop high chair, why the hell not?!

Obviously this only applies to those who need a high chair!

Other than a Tripp Trapp, I can't see how any other high chair can beat the Antilop in any way. It's dirt cheap, easy to clean, easily stored, and comfy. You can get that little blow up thing to give them support when they are still little, and they last for ages.

Whenever we've been to cafes / restaurants / other homes that have a different style of highchair, my DS's have never looked comfortable.

So, tell me, if you discounted the Antilop, why????????????????

I have only been to ikea once in my life and did not buy a Antilop high chair.

My high chair was a wooden one from john lewis that converted to a table and chairs for when they got older.
Lasted 5 years and 2 children before it was passed on to the charity shop and is still probably still going strong now over 10 years later.

Pickles, you could fit them in a large suitcase I reckon. Legs come off and the seat probably could fit in. They are pretty lightweight. link to product.

Ds is going to need to be in a high chair for quite a while yet and I'd rather have a wooden push up to the table one, than the antilop, which takes up more room and looks more 'high chairy'!

thanks raspberry it's weird isn't it, I looked up a link of the Antilop for one poster but didn't think of just looking up for a blow-up support! What can I google for you?

Ha Maryz. I did say in the OP that it was only for people who actually needed a highchair Grin

I didn't bother buying the blow-up cushion, I just put one of my own cushions in a carrier bag and shoved that behind the DC's till they no longer needed it as I'm a cheapskate

YY the Antilop rules supreme and I never parted witgh cash for anything else. I had two spanning ten years and three kids.
Does everything you want a high chair to for small pennies. Loved it. Grin

The East Coast highchair inserts also fit Antilop very well if your baby is on the small side when you first get one and you don't fancy the blow up one (which I understand does burst quite commonly)

Because I hadn't heard of them when DS came along and when DD came along I needed something that wouldn't take up space when it wasn't in use.

DS had a plastic monstrosity that strapped on to the dining room chair. I wanted a Tripp Trapp but my SD insisted he could make one just like it. Needless to say it was crap but my mum would have been heart broken if I had then got a Tripp Trapp so I got a plastic one from Argos instead and used the crap one when they were around.
DD had the Handysitt as I liked having DS at the table but preferred the look of the Handysitt. Luckily I didn't tell mum about ti so it couldn't be made for me...
< pushes memories of the clothes rail 'just like the one in Jojomamanbebe only cheaper' and the 'lovely little chair and table just like the ones you wanted but so much less' out of mind >

I had a baby dan high chir [http://www.amazon.co.uk/BabyDan-Danchair-Medium-Highchair-Natural/dp/B000NUR3U2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21 here]]. It is like tripp trapp but nicer IMO as it has more curved lines and no harsh edges and not as pricey.

I loved it for DC and love it now, I always use it when I'm doing fiddly crafts.

Mine has gone through three babies in 3 different houses, it's still as good as new despite being almost 10 years old.

What I liked the most was how easy it was to clean, no fiddly bits, no nonsense. Even given it a good wash in the sink was possible (not that it ever was needed as it was so easy to wipe clean)

And it was soooooo stupidly cheap too!

Never had problems removing the tray...you only need to lift it from the front...

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but my 10mo can climb out of his Tripp trapp. Anyone got any suggestions? I've lowered the leg rest bit but he can still get his feet up to his bottom and wiggle himself up and out onto the table. Wedging him in with things doesn't work Sad

Because I have very active twins and the harness didn't seem like it would keep them in. Didn't want one escaping while I was strapping the other one in. We tried them out in the Ikea restaurant and they kept almost tipping over. Had to eat with one hand holding the high chair the whole time. They just do t seem very safe.

toomany we use a harness. Like the one you get with reins. We also use it in the supermarket if the trolley doesn't have a strap.

Ikea is a round trip of nearly 7 hours here. And delivery costs £75. So the Tripp trapp wasn't that expensive really!

Report
PurpleAndPoppyWearer · 01/09/2012 07:09

Because of the no-home-delivery thing. Driving an hour to the nearest Ikea with a small baby wasn't happening, and was a false economy anyway.

And I got a Tripp Trapp for a bargain price on eBay local to me which I later sold for a profit.

My god I got half way through the thread and was thinking what on earth is this amazing product.

Went to google and seen it.

It's vile.
