"
This is to ask for the help of all Mumsnet members, most especially anyone who lives in the Haute Savoie departement.

One of our members, Carol Sheridan, is missing. She is a keen and intrepid hiker and explores the high mountains of the area. She is experienced and resourceful but neither her family nor many friends have had any communication with her since Saturday 27 October.

She may be lost or perhaps had an accident and be awaiting rescue.

She is 73, five foot five tall and drives a black Fiat Panda registration AZ522AP

If you have any information on Carol's whereabouts or the location of her car please contact French Police and her daughter Fiona Conyers [note from MNHQ, we've now removed the email address to respect the family's wish for privacy]

HQ are hoping to post the MISSING poster circulated by her family on here."

Hoping for good news too, have been following the story both on English and French media and it does seem they are throwing everything they have into the search - fingers crossed and thoughts with family and friends.

ZingWantsCake · 04/11/2013 19:51

petite

the fact that they are continuing with the search tomorrow gives the biggest hope - to me that means that they are still hopeful.

(would they continue if a positive outcome is not possible? )

but I don't know their procedures or rules. it's just my logic.

Hope is what we have.

Hope is what I am trying to cling on to.

Hard.

Tomorrow can't come quickly enough.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 04/11/2013 19:58

I do not think they could say for sure the it was hopeless, unless it was proven. They will keep looking for a while yet.

ZingWantsCake · 04/11/2013 20:02

psammy

yep, that's what I meant. I think

Hoping for good news x

Icyalittle · 04/11/2013 20:50

Only just got in, having been driving back to UK from Haute Savoie. Really encouraging news that the car is found! If she has got herself to one of the refuges or farm chalets, do you think we can properly hope, and look forward to the film starring GN and MN?
Wine to all

Tiredmumno1 · 04/11/2013 20:51

ZingWantsCake · 04/11/2013 21:01

I had a bit of a wobble yesterday about it, but now I'm more convinced than ever that she will be found.

I'm glad you are back ok, I hope you have a nice hot bath and a good sleep.

Tomorrow shall bring good news!Smile

Really thinking of Carol's family and friends.Visualise Carol in a mountain refuge and foraging the spoils-My sister survived like this one bad winter in Belledegarde.Keep hoping.

FestiveEdition · 04/11/2013 21:09

Bumping seemed to be a way of sending love and hope for Carol, and it is hard not to do that tonight.

So I have taken a small liberty and decided to light a candle of hope for her.
Carol is not religious, but this is not about religion...it is about sending a small light out into the world tonight, to shine into the dark for her.
I opened my candle as a 'group' option in case anyone else feels the same way. Please light your own candle of hope of, in the group, to shine out into the darkness for her tonight.
The link is here ....and anyone can click on an unlit candle to light a beacon for her.

If, for any reason, the link doesn't work for you ... just go here and enter CAROL in the groups search box

Candle lit. I hope they help light her way home.

AuldAlliance · 04/11/2013 21:24

Fingers and all other crossable items crossed here.
There were 15 PGHM gendarmes (like Mountain Rescue) out today. I have had experience of their work in very, very tricky terrain, and they are amazingly professional and highly-trained. As soon as they can start looking again tomorrow, they will.

PS. If I can help out with any translating, I'm happy to do so (haven't read the whole thread, so hope I'm not treading on any toes).

My candle is a green bough in the hope of a singing bird. Is that gnomic?
