"
This is to ask for the help of all Mumsnet members, most especially anyone who lives in the Haute Savoie departement.

One of our members, Carol Sheridan, is missing. She is a keen and intrepid hiker and explores the high mountains of the area. She is experienced and resourceful but neither her family nor many friends have had any communication with her since Saturday 27 October.

She may be lost or perhaps had an accident and be awaiting rescue.

She is 73, five foot five tall and drives a black Fiat Panda registration AZ522AP

If you have any information on Carol's whereabouts or the location of her car please contact French Police and her daughter Fiona Conyers [note from MNHQ, we've now removed the email address to respect the family's wish for privacy]

HQ are hoping to post the MISSING poster circulated by her family on here."

Oh no. I am so sorry to hear this. I didn't know Carol, but from what her family, as well as her friends here, have said about her, she sounds like an inspiring and courageous woman who lived her life to the very fullest.

My thoughts are with Carol's loved ones and I too will continue to light her candles.

To Carol's family:
I am just one of many hundreds, if not thousands, of Mumsnetters and Gransnetters who have been hoping for the safe return of your beloved Mum and Grandma. I am so deeply sorry for this enormous loss. Carol sounds like the most wonderful person and of course you will miss her hugely. My thoughts and deepest condolences are with you all Flowers.

Carol was quite a woman - nothing like her 73 years. She would be thrilled by the tributes on here. She always said she had good friends - I don't think she realised just how many people she had offered friendship to. I was one of them, and stayed with her just over a month ago. She lived in idyllic Alpine surroundings, like somehing out of Heidi. She took me out to share 'her' stunning mountains, lakes, ski slopes and high pastures, where we sat and looked down on the world below. Such a memorable time that I had hoped to enjoy with her again. Very sad to contemplate the gap she has left in my life.

simat - you must be devastated. Granjura too, I'm sure.
There is a poem by Rossetti which has given me comfort through some major losses. I read it this morning, after heating the news.....and thought that it might well have been Carols instruction. I hope it brings a tiny piece of comfort.

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of the future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

magimedi · 06/11/2013 22:15

I've posted earlier - I 'knew' Carol from forums & had the great pleasure of meeting her a couple of years ago. She was a wonderful woman, an example to us all as we get older.

I am just so relieved that she was found. My greatest fear was that the snow would come & there would be no resolution to this tragedy.

My thoughts are with her family tonight. I am sure they know how well loved she was by so many people.

AlfalfaMa · 06/11/2013 22:15

Such a sad loss :(
I'm another who lurked and hoped for a better outcome. I hope it's some comfort to those that loved Carol to hear she shouldn't have experienced too much pain.
My thoughts are with Carol's family and many friends xxx

MissPricklePants · 06/11/2013 22:23
