First thread was started by Trisagion on Wed 30-Oct-13 15:18:17

"
This is to ask for the help of all Mumsnet members, most especially anyone who lives in the Haute Savoie departement.

One of our members, Carol Sheridan, is missing. She is a keen and intrepid hiker and explores the high mountains of the area. She is experienced and resourceful but neither her family nor many friends have had any communication with her since Saturday 27 October.

She may be lost or perhaps had an accident and be awaiting rescue.

She is 73, five foot five tall and drives a black Fiat Panda registration AZ522AP

If you have any information on Carol's whereabouts or the location of her car please contact French Police and her daughter Fiona Conyers [note from MNHQ, we've now removed the email address to respect the family's wish for privacy]

HQ are hoping to post the MISSING poster circulated by her family on here."

Well done, Auld good thinking.

I hope the search ends today, with a positive result.

My thoughts are with the family.

isitme1 · 05/11/2013 09:25

I suppose audl is right about what the police are saying. if there are a lot of people in that area they could mask some important clues about her whereabouts like if theres a trail thats gone of track andthey dont want aanyone trodding on it. If thay makes sense?

I was going to say is it worth asking mnhq to send out an email to everyone like their newsletter?

Perhaps not if they are asking people to stay away but might be good if anyone has any info they can point them in the right direction?

NomDeClavier · 05/11/2013 09:41

Another offer of translation help - I'm not as good as auld but I'm around a lot so if something is needed speedily and relatively accurate but not necessarily perfect feel free to shoot a PM across.

ZingWantsCake · 05/11/2013 09:51

Nom

thanks!

I linked the Gransnet threads last night - why don't you post your kind offer on the "suggestions" one?

auld

thank you for doing that!

Praying that they find her today.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 10:21

Just read on GN that the helicopter is able to go out today.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 10:22

Also that the family have the translators they need already - it's wonderful that people are still offering their services, I think it's a waiting game now though. When we hear, hopefully it will be via family.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 10:27

Also, I know she wont have it on Gransnet, but can I just say here - three cheers for Granjura. She's like a ninja or something, and is keeping us up to date on the salient points, without intruding on the family's privacy.

Wine Thanks Granjura!

They're coming Carol, hang in there x

DameDeepRedBetty · 05/11/2013 10:36

I've lit a candle this morning. There are 232 from 12 countries now!

Praying for mild calm weather in search area today.

Mmelindor · 05/11/2013 10:37

Just spoken to a friend who lives near the area where Carol went missing. She hadn't heard about this, but it was just on local radio (Geneva area).

Hope Carol is found soon. Thinking of her family.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/11/2013 10:42

Just lit my candle.

ZombieMonkeyButler · 05/11/2013 10:46

I have been following the threads but not actually posted before now as I have nothing useful to add, having no knowledge of the region at all & only GCSE level French.

Carol has been constantly in my thoughts these last couple of days though - and I hope & pray that today is the day she is found.

Maybe a few of the posters who have been complaining of how negative & bitchy MN is nowadays should pop over here - love & support in bucket loads.

ParsingFancy · 05/11/2013 10:48

Uff. Apologies for misspelling your name with an e, Carol.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 05/11/2013 11:19

I hope she is found today

takeitonthegin · 05/11/2013 11:32
