What are your thoughts on posters who don't have a gifted child but actively read this section (and usually take the piss )?

I think it's a bit wierd and sad. Why would you read sections like this if it wasn't relevant to you? And the poor souls must feel so bad about themselves to write derogatory comments (bless).

because people can have all sorts of opinions on subjects they are not directly involved in ,and are allowed to have negative and critical opinions

i read lots of stuff that is not relevant to me right now , but i still have an opinion on it.. miscarriage, bereavement, i often read about things in the news i am not up to speed about... is that and different or worse?

people take the piss for several reasons

first, free speech

second, they take the piss and mock what they either don;t understand, don;t agree with or think is silly or pointless

it is not just G&T that gets people agitated

lots of topics have had rude and confrontational threads

you are being sarcastic and rude about those who have mocked G&T

so how is that better?

free speech means people can be rude and mocking and denigrating which is hurtful when it something oyu believe in , but still part of a healthy culture that allows debate

Agree that lurking is not to be criticised. I always feel if you don't have anything beneficial to say then don't say it. IMO, it says more about those that take the piss than it does about those who are meerly seeking information.

if i strongly disagreed with something, be it G&T or something else entirely, i might be critical of those who believed in it as strongly as i did not believe

i think if you have strong beliefs either way about a topic, you need to be quite robust, and stikc up for what you believe, rather than get annoyed at the critics

if you believe in it anyway, what the critics say and what they feel won't matter and won't sway your beliefs

G&T is controversial. Lots of people think it's bollocks. I thought it was until it affected my family directly. I still think it's a silly label, but I think this forum is useful. It's largely not about parents boasting about how clever their little Johnny is, and much more about getting some support, advice and discussion around the topic. But hey ho. Lots of sections on MN attract scorn. The 'one child family' one kicked off all the time at one point , and MN-ers have all but driven the Child Moggling threads underground
