lol oh go on

BoccaDellaVerita · 07/11/2008 23:39

DD's toy piano only had about five notes, so the options for improvising TV themes and the works of Elvis were limited but I could play Doe A Dear on her xylophone. Her friend had a proper xylophone from a music shop, tuned in a minor key, so that everything sounded like the incidental music from a crime drama.

Dragonbutter · 07/11/2008 23:39

i dare you too.

I can play iggle piggle's theme tune on the flute

BoccaDellaVerita · 07/11/2008 23:41

Is it cheating, though, to use a real musical instrument?

Dragonbutter · 07/11/2008 23:43

yes, that's a bit too impressive.
you need to be limited to one octave, C major scale.

It'll be Carnegie Hall next, mark my words

PeppermintPatty · 10/11/2008 20:33

I can play chopsticks. I can even do the duet bit

seeker · 10/11/2008 20:44

BDV (sorry - but I really had to stop myself typing BVM) my ds is determinedly teaching himself the ukelele. He has a book and a CD and is making excellent progress. I think. Not sure how you would tell. But it is certainly one of the best £12 I have ever spent, and there will be ulekekes under the Christmas tress of nearly all my friends this year. I suspect by this time next year I will have no friends left, but it's in a good cause!

seeker · 10/11/2008 20:46

Oh, and I can play Jusu Joy of Man's Desiring on practically any instrument you put in front of me including the spoons. Nothing else - it's a very specialized gift.

VanessaParody · 10/11/2008 20:50

arf @ seekers 'specialised gift'

only the first 20 bats or so Vanessa. And not the left handbit. The ELC piano only has 2 octaves on I think. Its diddy.

We could geta concert going

BoccaDellaVerita · 10/11/2008 20:56

seeker - Have resolved to ask Santa for a ukelele. It might even wean me off MN!

And deeply impressed that you can play Bach on the spoons. Is it hard to find classical music arranged for the spoons - wonders about Scarlatti or Messaien - or do you arrange it yourself?

needmorecoffee · 10/11/2008 20:59

bach on the spoons? Please please video yourself and post it. This I must see.
Anyone play the comb and paper?

seeker · 10/11/2008 21:00

As I said, not Bach per se. Just Jesu Joy. And yes, I arranged it myself. Radio 3 are very interested - they want me for their "Great Works Ruined by Cretins" slot on Saturday mornings.

If you do ask Santa for a ukelele, ask him for some new strings as well - the ones that come with them are rubbish and frustratingly won't stay in tune. Changing them makes all the difference. And remember to specify the colour. Ds's is red, but the yellow ones are particularly fine.

Horton · 10/11/2008 21:03

I can play Que Sera Sera and House of the Rising Sun on the xylophone - does that count?

My daughter has a ukulele and thinks she can play the Bing Bong song from Peppa Pig on it. She can't. Pity me.

needmorecoffee · 10/11/2008 21:07

a hotbed of talent

Wendyjayb · 10/11/2008 21:09

My dh can play the tune to the Exorcist

BoccaDellaVerita · 10/11/2008 21:26

seeker - Any piece of Bach (even if it is just one) on the spoons is hugely impressive. I look forward to hearing you on R3 and hope to be included in their first ever ukelele-only performance of Handel's Idomeneo.

IorekByrnison · 10/11/2008 21:29

I used to be able to play twinkle twinkle on dd's toy octopus with squeezable feet. But one of the notes has gone flat, so now everything sounds like Stockhausen.
