Do you need to be able to use the word "arrogant" at the age of two?

Yeah, I know, I was being cheeky.

Oblomov · 22/06/2007 15:39

Actually, he is still very bright, and a lovely brother, but has the "I am able to hold down a meaningful relatioship" IQ of a moron.

Oblomov · 22/06/2007 15:40

Not my problem. But I feel sorry for the rest of the female population.

edam · 22/06/2007 15:43

Blimey, the examples cited of her extraordinary intellect don't seem that extreme to me, judging by ds and his friends at that age (so not just a 'my ds is a genuis too' reaction). I think she's just a fairly bright, inquisitive 2yo and there's no way of telling now whether she'll end up particuarly clever or not. Feel sorry for her, though, with such pushy parents (if they weren't pushy, they wouldn't be doing IQ tests).

"In one test I asked her to draw a circle and she did it so perfectly. Most adults would struggle to do that."

Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!

suedonim · 22/06/2007 16:19

I'm sure she's a delightful child but I don't think she's extraordinary. Another news report says she is aged 2yrs 9mths, so she's nearer 3yo than 2. As we all know, a few months makes such a difference at this age and definitely puts it in perspective.

bobsmum · 22/06/2007 17:38

I'm pretty sure the word "arrogant" is used in the song lyrics of Beauty and the beast. Repeating script from a musical isn't genius is it?

Some Disney fan can correct me on that

Aloha · 22/06/2007 17:41

I bet you are right bobsmum. I don't think anyone here is criticising this very pretty and sweet-looking little girl, but really, the woman quoted sounds insane. Adults who can't draw circles? Legions of five year olds girls who can't recognise pink and purple? Where has she been?

Rhubarb · 22/06/2007 18:55

Poor girl, just because she can't keep up with the likes of some 2yos she's criticised on here! Honestly, I'm sure she won't remain dim forever. Just because my kids could speak 3 languages, play the piano, write their first novel and do complicated maths equations at the same age doesn't mean to say that she won't be able to do these things. Some kids just take longer to catch up don't they?

motherinferior · 22/06/2007 18:57

In any case, won't the Mail be horripilated if in 20 years' time she's pursuing, you know, a career?

Piffle · 22/06/2007 18:59

only 3 langauges Rhubarb, you should be ashamed.... tsk tsk

Tamum · 22/06/2007 19:02

One can't help but wonder how Professor Freeman would do on an IQ test, or at least on a test of knowledge of normal child development

SoupDragon · 22/06/2007 19:02

Is it not statistically true that a large proportion of "genius children" burn out and become fairly average or only slightly above average adults?

nooka · 22/06/2007 20:09

She sounds like a fairly normal precocious (urgh! I can't spell for toffee!) little girl. It often happens that young children with much older brothers and sister pick up all sorts of "adult" phrases. I'm sure she is very bright, but can you think of any almost three year old that doesn't know the difference between pink and purple?

francagoestohollywood · 22/06/2007 20:21

the article on ageing kate moss on the right is actually quite interesting

pointydog · 22/06/2007 20:25

my mum left the mail today.

I saw this article and couldn't fathom why th eparents would want this in a national paper

pointydog · 22/06/2007 20:26

lol @ franca. I did pore over that kate moss shite for quite a long time

kookaburra · 22/06/2007 20:45

Pointy dog - me too - thought the Kate Moss article more interesting.
Feel sorry for the little girl labelled a 'genius' now for life.Would have been far better to keep it to themselves and just encouraged her to develop her talents privately - now everyone will be just waiting for her to fail to live up to early promise - can you imagine the schadenfreude among the other parents when she goes to school and the playing field evens out..
Am relieved none of mine ever likely to make the Daily M*

Peachy · 22/06/2007 20:47

Nort knowing colours by 3 is a failure in bibic assessment (only of a tiny thousandth aprt though in case anyone worrying).

DS1 has a verbal langauge of 16 - 21. he's 7.5.

tahst just who he is, along with his HFA.

Snaf · 22/06/2007 20:49

Yes, the state of Kate Moss's knees infinitely more absorbing than pink vs. purple.

francagoestohollywood · 22/06/2007 21:21

I'm fascinated by the opinion of the experts, especially re the knees
