Bad attitude of some of you here

There's a lot of bad attitude on here. Culture of underachievement and all that. It's sad and a bit shocking really when these children are the ones who really need the help and the resources and aren't getting it. My daughter is four and I'm not abashed to say the word 'genuis'. In front of her or not. It isn't a bad word, it's what she is and I love her for it.

How do I know? Oh please, this is the child who was playing - meaningully - with abacus at 3 months. Now four she has read Secret Seven and is working on newspapers. She has her own email.

So shoot me. My daughter is gifted, there, I said it. Why the bad attitude?

You actually speak sense. This is not the website for me, far too competitive. I thought I would be generous and share my tips and experiences of raising an exceptional child with the general masses. But it seems that we are to be excluded by the same society who will be calling upon our children to solve the problems they have generated.

lissielou · 21/02/2007 13:01

ok, lotrl- who are you?

lissielou · 21/02/2007 13:01

so lotrl how many dc's do you have?

PeachyClair · 21/02/2007 13:02

LOL- private schools I know he'll be even more stuffed! At least teh commoners schools get their bullying policies checked over (and I almost married someone from a rather nice somerset public school who was extremely badly bullied for being OTT academic)

FWIW my cousin is 18, AS, has an IQ off the scale and has just been accepted at Cambridge for music and chemistry. And you know what, he hasn't ever had a date, or remembered to wash without being prompted-

kids need to be rounded

It's Greensleeves still. I know it. I recognise the style.

Your generous tips on how to raise a child even though he's not been born yet - oh you are kind, bless your saintly heart!

not chocolate lotr, just fags and coca cola. It is Lent, you know.

lotrl · 21/02/2007 13:04

I am expecting my first child. I have no experience of other children as I don't want my judgement clouded. I shall follow my natural instincts and logical reasoning throughout.

Although I have heard there is a parenting guru who uses common sense to parent children. Her charges are very contented it seems.

colditz · 21/02/2007 13:05

Greeeeennnneeeeeeee!

lissielou · 21/02/2007 13:05

when is your edd?

JillyBeansNW · 21/02/2007 13:05

Lotrl - what is your opinion on trouser length? If your LO is a boy?
Or will he be in shorts until the age of 16 in your private school?

donnie · 21/02/2007 13:05

PeachyClair · 21/02/2007 13:05

and deleeeeeeeeete

lotrl · 21/02/2007 13:06

I am due in July thank you.

Piffle · 21/02/2007 13:07

if your dogs are gifted, that really puts the nail on the nurture vs nature debate on intellect
Which is great as it means I can officially discharge ds's OBP (other biological parent) from any glory in his genius, as he was largely absent, physically, emotionally and mkore noticeably financially for the first 7 yrs
Hooray

aptamil · 21/02/2007 13:07

just another thought to add to this debate. I thought it should be mentioned now that naturally a genius child will have been breastfed for the first year of their life. Or does this go without saying?

lissielou · 21/02/2007 13:07

come back in august and let us know how you are

donnie · 21/02/2007 13:08

md dd2 is gifted insofar as she attempts to wipe her own bottom during nappy changes. She does, however, frequently get poo all over herself and the walls but this is the sacrifice I make for her brains and initiative( she is 22 m btw).

JillyBeansNW · 21/02/2007 13:09

lotrl - Did you make your own pancakes yesterday?

aptamil · 21/02/2007 13:10

what is your view on breastfeeding lotrl?

lotrl · 21/02/2007 13:10

I plan to breastfeed for much longer than that. Like I said, I aim to actively seek to enhance his intelligence.
