Bad attitude of some of you here

There's a lot of bad attitude on here. Culture of underachievement and all that. It's sad and a bit shocking really when these children are the ones who really need the help and the resources and aren't getting it. My daughter is four and I'm not abashed to say the word 'genuis'. In front of her or not. It isn't a bad word, it's what she is and I love her for it.

How do I know? Oh please, this is the child who was playing - meaningully - with abacus at 3 months. Now four she has read Secret Seven and is working on newspapers. She has her own email.

So shoot me. My daughter is gifted, there, I said it. Why the bad attitude?

Have you had a bad morning?

Enid · 21/02/2007 11:32

I could a read a newspaper at 4.

Now look at me

lotrl · 21/02/2007 11:32

I have started my own thread on a topic very similar to this. I am pregnant and want to maximise my child's chances of achieving his full potential so I have come on looking for tips from mothers of gifted children. Did you do anything for your baby whilst pregnant lollymum?

NbgsYellowFeathers · 21/02/2007 11:32

Yes, why on earth would you let a 4 year old read a newspaper.
Not exactly suitable is it.

charlieq · 21/02/2007 11:33

Enid lol I was the same

I am not exactly an advert for 'gifted' children now....

fannyannie · 21/02/2007 11:34

actually lolly I went to a school full of G&T children - it was a specialist music school and many of it's pupils are now at the top of their field in music (and Micro-biology ).

lotrl · 21/02/2007 11:34

I read The Times to my baby, why is that so unsuitable? I applaud you lollymum for being proud!

ScottishThistle · 21/02/2007 11:34

Doesn't take someone from Mensa to work out lotrl=troll! (shakes head!)

Clary · 21/02/2007 11:34

My children are all special too, tho none I would say are G&T.

at the idea that a child who is nto a genius is not special.

Not quite sure what your point is lollymum, but you couldn't really expect anything but what you've got with an OP like that.

lollymum · 21/02/2007 11:34

She loved her abacus KathyMCMLXXII. At 3 months she would roll the beads into groups of five and giggle because she knew she had done it right. At twelve months she was not just talking but producing original rhymes. Why all the ill-natured sniggering about a child who is exceptional and rises above the crowd? I suspect jealousy.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 21/02/2007 11:35

I agree lollymum, it is jealousy. Please do tell me what kind of pregnancy you had. Did you actively try for an intelligent child?

liquidclocks · 21/02/2007 11:36

I'm so much more sympathetic to you now I've read your posts.

your child sounds weird

does she have any mates

chopchopbusybusy · 21/02/2007 11:37

LOL at trying for an intelligent child. does that involve shagging only when radio 4 is playing in the background

fannyannie · 21/02/2007 11:37

well my mum listened to the entire Organ Works of JS Bach when pg with me........so I guess it's no suprise that when I was 3 1/2 I wanted to be an organist.....and am Director of Music at my local church now.

Obviously my 3 children are going to be incredibly musical too.....after while pg with all 3 of them I have been playing music regularly

lollymum · 21/02/2007 11:37

There are newspapers aimed at a younger readership. My daughter is advanced enough to cope with adult news content in any case. She hasn't been wrapped in cotton wool, she is not an ordinary child so there was never any point pretending she was. Don't any of you watch the news in front of your children? Or are they too busy watching Teletubbies?

I'd be a bit scared about the abacus tbh. Were there any unexplained lights in your village 9 months before she was born?

fannyannie · 21/02/2007 11:38

nah DS2 (3yrs old) is into Horrid Henry and Den of Doom atm

Enid · 21/02/2007 11:39
