One month of abstinence and fitness - anyone care to join me?

ClaudiaSchiffer · 25/06/2010 23:34

I need to get fitter, stop drinking alcohol, stop eating so much chocolate and other junk. Generally have a good healthy month in order to add zip and zing to my life. I also want to be more creative and less consumed by drudgery.

So . . . during July I am going to do the following . . .

  1. No alcohol
  1. No chocolate/junk food
  1. Exercise at least 3 times a week - for me it will be a 0 - 5k running program.
  1. Pick up my paint brushes and be creative
  1. Listen to more music and DANCE
  1. Say YES to opportunities
  1. Less time on the computer
  1. Read more books
  1. Meditate
  1. Eat and drink healthily

  2. Be conscious of spending money - no quick trips to the newsagents for crappy mags and sweeties

Right. I can't think of any more but would you care to join me?

I want to start properly on July 1st but today I am going for a run and last night I went to a cabaret show which has inspired me to be less conventional and screamingly middle aged and dull.

Perhaps we could encourage each other to to Random Acts of Kindness or get tattoos or learn magic tricks or something.

you had me up to no. 7

ClaudiaSchiffer · 25/06/2010 23:44

you can do your own list Cornsilk.

Mine is HARD CORE.

Also I spend hours and hours on bloody Twitter (and other shite) and I need to CUT IT OUT.

I am doing a quick tidy up before going running and I am going to play LOUD music as kids and dh are out.

MarionCole · 25/06/2010 23:57

I'm up for it, will think about list, first thoughts:

  1. No sugar
  2. Start 0-5k running plan again
  3. Limit sitting on arse in front of TV/laptop to,um, 1 hour per night?
  4. Read more
  5. Make a conscious effort to take lunch to work to avoid spending a fortune in the sandwich shop
ClaudiaSchiffer · 26/06/2010 00:00

Hurrah for you Marion. Welcome welcome

I am currently dancing to The Staple Singers. It is FANTASTIC.

Today I will read my book, not watch The Bill, enjoy the kids and NOT shout quite so much at the little angels.

citybranch · 26/06/2010 00:35

I think I want to join.....
will sleep on it and give my list tomorrow.

Cake · 26/06/2010 00:47

I'd love to join (please)

I started 0-5k running programme a few weeks ago and it's going well.

But I need discipline in other areas.

will do as citybranch said and present my list tomorrow.

RedBlueRed · 26/06/2010 01:00

I might sign up to a list of objectives...

I have a holiday coming up and I plan to lose weight and tone up before then so I could look at:

  1. Cutting out the snacks and crap.
  2. Don't drink much these days but could cut alcohol out completely.
  3. Drink more water/green tea/camomile tea.
  4. Up my exercise levels.
  5. And this is the biggy, I am a night person so tend to stay up late Doing Things and am in sleep debt by the end of the week. I plan to go to bed earlier so I don't constantly feel tired.

Don't want a tattoo nor lear to do magic tricks appeal but what sort or Random Acts of Kindness did you have in mind?

RedBlueRed · 26/06/2010 01:03

Not quite sure what random shots my mind was trying to send out there re magic tricks but that would be a no for me.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 26/06/2010 02:00

Hurrah hurrah huzzahhhhhhhhhhh

Going to a farm now but will be back later.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 26/06/2010 07:30

I'm in. My goals will be:

  1. Exercise 4 times a week, 3 runs and a bike ride.
  2. No alcohol except my sister's wedding. Hardly drink anyway.
  3. Much less chocolate. I can't give up completely.
  4. Drink more water.
  5. Generally eat better. 6)Spend alot less. Except for new bike, buy next to nothing.
ClaudiaSchiffer · 26/06/2010 08:27

Welcome welcome everyone.

I like the look of your lists, very parsimonious, very pure

Cainintheclogs obv magic tricks and tattoos are non essential but my point was for me to rather break out of my dreary middle-aged attitudes for a month. I started today by listening to loud music rather than talk radio and trying not to have "no" as my default setting whenever the kids ask me a question.

Regarding Random Acts of Kindness hmmmmm, I just googled an American site and the ideas were all a bit nauseating, or involved giving away envelopes of cash, which we don't have right now. But how about making sure you compliment someone - a stranger (to make it really tricky).

ClaudiaSchiffer · 26/06/2010 08:28

You look amazing this morning btw. LOVE what you've done with your hair.

See easy.

cyb · 26/06/2010 08:31

cluadia whilst I admire your chutzpah dont you think your list is a little long? What if you forget to meditate one day? Or dance? Have you failed? Smaller list done better would be my motto.

whyme2 · 26/06/2010 08:32

Thanks for the compliment Claudia.

I will produce a list to join you all later.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 26/06/2010 08:34

Hey, no strict rules here Cyb. Am happy to continue with the spirit of the thing.

As long as I stay off the booze and stay groovey that's my main thing.
