charliecat · 20/08/2005 22:16

Oh I also watched a really old man holding 40 B and H suck desperatly on a really long fag with the hollow cheek thing going on.

charliecat · 20/08/2005 22:17

Goodness me thats late. You are in london yeah? well the train was from Hastings to London Charing Cross, the beach is a 5 min walk through the town.

mummylonglegs · 20/08/2005 22:26

Yes, I've done that journey to Hastings before, when I first met dp actually and we went on a dirty weekend together!

cc, do I remember you saying one of your girls was a bit of a 'wallflower' type personality? Did they change? i was just thinking, since writing my last post, how much dd's changed lately. She used to be in hysterics if another child came near her and doing things like singalongs with other kids always involved her just curled up on my knee peeping out from behind my hands etc. But now suddenly there she is, singing along, (very quietly but what the heck), wanting to hold hands with other quiet kids (usually girls, sensible dd) ...

charliecat · 20/08/2005 22:34

Yeah my big dd who is now 7 wouldnt speak to anyone she didnt know, wouldnt join in with anything etc etc and I think having dd2 has definetly helped her learn how to socialise.
She hated school to begin with, couldnt cope with the playground (dont blame her) and was a nervous wreck. It took a while but shes now going up to juniors in a pack of 4 friends, is popular with the rest of the class (as in she gets party invites and doesnt have any enemys)
and the teachers always say they wish they had more like her>>>
She isnt the sort to seek out new playmates, actually, yeah her mates have chosen her, and she would rather play on her own than initiate a friendship, but thats ok, I cannot stand kids who are right in your face lol

charliecat · 20/08/2005 22:36

must go to bed now night night xx

mummylonglegs · 20/08/2005 22:45

sleep tight, cc. Your dd1 sounds very like my dd. I'll have to ask you more about it tomorrow. I'm gonna crash now too ... yawn ...

dropinthe · 21/08/2005 12:51

Hiya all! I LOVE Hastings to bits-sounded like a great day.

Yes MLL-still fine for Thursday-I shall pick you from the station-email me say on Tuesday for times etc.

You were talking about books recently MLL and I decided to make a more concerted effort to read-nearly finished "The Bad Mother's Handbook"-thought I'd start on a light note-am really enjoying it and now plan to trawl Amazon for some good reads. Can you reccomend any good books??

I was VERY naughty and half a fag yesterday!
-am VVV ashamed!

OP posts:
mummylonglegs · 21/08/2005 13:01

drop!!! Don't do it (the fag I mean!) It's too close to that one you had the other week. You're not getting a false sense of confidence are you? Remember, I started again once after 2 years of being quit just because of the odd half here and there. it took about 3 months and before I knew it I was back on 20 a day!!

Hmmm ... books, what kind of thing do you like? I'm a madly rampant novel reader with a huge range of tastes from classics to experimental arty ones to good old pot boilers. Tell me what kind of thing you fancy and I'll see if I can recommend something. The only things I can't read are slushy romances and 'chick litt' (whatever it is!)

dropinthe · 21/08/2005 13:10

Oh,I know-I'll tell you what did it.

My dh stopped smoking when we went to Turkey so had been clean for 6 weeks-I was so proud of him.Yesterday morning,I come downstairs and on the kitchen side is a roll up dogend-I asked him where it came from and he had the cheek to say it must have come out of some old work jeans preholiday.I almost believed him until I spotted some tobacco on the kitchen table-of course I was fuming and told him how stupid he would be if he came this far only to start again. He said it had been a one off and that he had no intentions of starting again but I was still really angry at him all day.
Yestaerday evening we went to visit some relatives who have recently moved to Morrocco who were back for a few days-his favourite cousin actually who's son we are godparents too-she has had a long time without a good man in her life and had met a Morroccon guy out there and she had some nuptuals etc etc-we went to the pub for a swiftie which is when she told us.She smokes and I was just so exctited for her as she really needed a bit of a boost to her confidence that I nabbed a fag of her in the pub.Must confess,I did enjoy it as G&T too!

Thats it!I'm sorry-I know it can lead me down a slippery path but have always wanted to be one of those people who can have a smoke every few weeks without it leading to anything.A pipe dream I know!

OP posts:
dropinthe · 21/08/2005 13:17

I too don't like romance/chicky books-my favourite reads in the past have been modern thrillers/consp.theorys/trip arty books.I loved The Tales of the City group of books-wouldn't mind reading them again actually-always had aspirations of being a San Franciscan hippy chick!

(changes the subject quite well to hide red face from fag incident)

OP posts:
mummylonglegs · 21/08/2005 14:12

Yes, well, we all know it was YOU drop, YOU who smoked that fag ...

I just finished a really compelling book about a teenage suicide pact called The Pact. Fancy that? It's a bit of a thriller with a fabulous courtroom drama at the end.

dropinthe · 21/08/2005 15:36

I'm sorry!

I like the sound of that book-shall look up on Amazon!

OP posts:
charliecat · 21/08/2005 21:06

The FishFinger Years (by our very own FG) is a great read!
Most enjoyable book ive read in the past few years is Tara Road by Maeve Binchy, I have read all of her other books hoping to find another as nice as it and they have all been pants, well not as good anyway.
Drop What on earth were you thinking???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know I am nearly 9 months clean?
9 months baby lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

charliecat · 21/08/2005 21:12

I went to the pub tonight and didnt smoke >>>>>

mummylonglegs · 21/08/2005 21:31

Wow, that's SO fab leader, erm sorry, cc!

drop, don't buy the book you can have my copy! I'll bring over a couple of recent things I've enjoyed. In exchange for a swig of your finest red.

Hey, cc, I keep meaning to read the fishfinger years, you reminded me, I'll get a copy tomorrow.

dropinthe · 22/08/2005 10:11

I WASN'T thinking-that was the problem!Still,3 fags in 6 months aint bad!
Thanks for the book offer-mll-I shall see if I can fish any out for you-I haven't actually got many of my old books left-used to have hundreds when I read alot.
CC-who is FG??

Mll-can you believe I have started cleaning today in preparation for your visit on Thursday-sad,eh?I get all anal when someone who has never visited before comes to my house-feel like I have to get it looking its best-stupid I know with a dodgy knee-its got a bit of a mess really since I came back from Turkey an invalid and we have been here three years and only decorated two rooms.See,I'm trying to justify it already!!

I know you will take as it comes!

charliecat · 22/08/2005 10:12

Fionagib you dafty, that fags addled your brain

evansmummy · 22/08/2005 15:52

Hullo, all.

Drop, never minbd the slip up, just make sure it's the only one! Otherwise you'll end up as hopeless as me

I'm housesitting in a hosue with no puter, can you believe that exists????? Just poppedhome to get a few things, and had to say hello to my most excellent and beloved non-smoking friends!

It's my 3 year wedding anniversary the day after tomorrow and i am valiantly reading allen carr for the second time, in the hope that this will be the one.

Not usre when i'll be back on. probably soon for even more moaning and general annoyance

peckarollover · 22/08/2005 15:57

Well

After 5 weeks of success I have fallen off the waggon with an almighty crash

Did you hear it?

charliecat · 22/08/2005 16:21

Didnt hear it...what happened? Must be the weather.
Glad to hear your reading EM, you said before that you went sure, and that you wanted to smoke, thats the illusion isnt it. Its only precious when you cant have it.
Smoke 10 fags in a day and wake up still wanting more and its not so pleasant.
Come back!

mummylonglegs · 22/08/2005 22:50

pecka, what happened? How many have you had? 5 weeks is so brilliant, can you not treat this as a little slip-up and get straight back on the wagon?

em, hello! You're NEVER an annoyance. We're here to help

drop - drop that duster RIGHT NOW. Put your bad leg up. I am so utterly not bothered about checking people's homes for tidyness. I'm just looking forward to meeting YOU. Plus, if it makes you feel better, I live in a cramped 2-bedroom council flat with a lounge that looks like a pathetic toy shop. I don't care! I don't own an iron! Whenever I could be cleaning I lie on the bed reading novels instead. When places are too tidy it's not relaxing. Dd will feel she can't touch anything. Let us please, honestly, take you as we find you.

dropinthe · 22/08/2005 23:00

Youve not seen my other threads-am off to bed now but see my thread about my half sister.

OP posts:
mummylonglegs · 22/08/2005 23:01

where abouts is it, drop?

fionagib · 22/08/2005 23:40

Hi there girls, have hardly had chance to get on here as dd is just doing half days at school so have to get head down and work in the mornings. Also dh working v v late at the mo, home 10ish at the earliest... by which time have just about got cleared up, packed lunchboxes etc... a loooong day.

It's all a bit busy but have had no fags and am feeling good - really don't think I'll be tempted now, even tho dh still chuff-chuff-chuffin'.

Your beach day sounds lovely cc (also sorry to hear about your dp's possible/impending redundancy btw). hope your wee dd enjoys school when she starts! Mine loves it, very ready for it and happy to be there. 3 weeks and she'll be in full days. All my kids will be in full time education, yikes!

mll - think the pact is by jodi picoult, is that right? I read her other, my sister's keeper, which was v pacy and gripping. have also enjoyed 'We need to talk about kevin' - horribly disturbing but compelling.

And read 'we're all going on a bear hunt'tonight, for the 8 millionth time.

Gonna slink into bath, legs prickly and horrible, need bic treatment...

night all xxx
