I was hoping you would be feeling more reassured after your appointment yesterday choclab.

Did you talk to the dr about your concerns re the ADs? I know it's hard, but please try to keep calm. You've had tests, scan all done and been fine. Your gp is being cautious that is all, and trying to put your mind at ease.

We're all still over on the thread if you need us

KurriKurri · 11/06/2010 21:06

Choclab - I don't really know much about this but didn't want you to go unanswered.

I think you should take heart from the fact that your last pelvic scan was normal, and that your symptoms do sound very similar to those of IBS (My sis. has this) which you've had diagnosed.

You are having tests now which I hope will reassure you. I imagine the ca 125 test is to set your mind at rest as your doc. has suggested.

Things like cancer of the womb, were not so easily picked up in the 60's because there wasn't routine testing. So I don't think you should compare yourself with your grandmother. You are being scanned, and were well at your last scan so in the remote possibility there was anything to worry about, it will be picked up quickly and dealt with early.

Do you have any medication or coping strategies, to help you with your HA? I am guessing, (based on my sisters condition) that your worry is making your IBS symptoms worse, - so a bit of a vicious circle for you to cope with.

I don't know if any of his has been remotely helpful, I do sympathise, HA must be a frightening problem to deal with. It sounds as if your GP is helpful, which is a good thing. Is it possible for you to find something distracting and calming to do, - a nice bath, a favourite DVD perhaps, a warm drink and a light reading book to snuggle up in bed with? I hope you are able to feel better and reassured very soon.

choclab · 11/06/2010 21:37

thank you both , blissa i will return , soon but thank you for checking in on me xx

Kurrikurri - than you to, i am a little calmer , my doctor was so nice he really was , understood where i was coming from and i guess could really see i was anx .
im truly hoping that this will be the case my IBS causing the bloating ...but its that little devil again telling me ..yes but it might not be ....

if that makes sense ... its as though i have to go to get checked to be sure and i WONT rest till i do ..

a combination af fear , guilt , goes through my mind often to ...
how does your sister cope ?
He has also put me on waiting list for CBT help with the anx and put urgent on it ..so im hoping to get some help that way to ..

i have a few things in my life right now that also are worrying me , mu mum is an alcoholic and really not well and im struggling to cope/help with it all .

Hi choc - glad your GP is being thorough. I think you need to try to start looking at the positives here rather than focusing on worrying about something you have no verdict on from the doctors. Please sit down and take a deep breath and tell yourself your doctor is only doing this to prove to you that everything is ok. It is hard to put in words how I want to say this, but picture a smile on my face and a well meaning attitude here holding your hand being supportive....Now STOP thinking negative thoughts, statistically the chances are this is nothing sinister. There is no need to worry unless the doctor says so in which case you can then worry! (and then we will still be here for you) You did the right thing to get checked yes so having done that try to put this to the back of your mind until you get the all clear. It is about putting things into perspective. It is natural to be anxious but you can help yourself to not let it take over your life. If you start finding yourself thinking about it negatively, allow yourself a moment of it and then think about something else positive - a holiday, a great party or something good for you. Don't let it drag you in - you have the power

Seriously though let us know when you get a scan date and how you get on, and good luck.

choclab · 12/06/2010 08:05

thank you beautifulgirls,

im glad i have gone and getting a scan as i know i wont rest till i do ,and i think my doctor is doing this to help me to ,plus he did say its one of those things that show no sympyoms till right at the end and can not say hand on heart i dont have it ,and as i am anx the only way to know for sure is to have scan done .
he did say he thought its more likly to be my IBS ..and has only had 2 cases in 17 years so that was a bit more reasuring .

i blood test on tuesday , and will wait for appt for scan

i know what your saying and will try put in perspective , i do try but it just keeps creaping back , this is going to sound really silly , but its as though i have a bad and good guy on each shoulder ...one saying ..
""come on your fine , its your ibs you know you have it and a very common symptom is bloating ..so forget it .""

""The other side saying ahh but what if its not ...its C and your going to die if you dont get help now ..""

ans so it caries on .....and this is how it goes with most health issues ..thinkig the worst ..im hoping with having this done and getting some CBT help i can change my train of thought ..
i dont like being like this ..feel guilty and ashamed for being this way ..

thanks for listening x

beautifulgirls · 12/06/2010 10:38

It is a natural thing to have some concern of course - you wouldn't be human if you didn't. Decide which shoulder each is sitting on and when the bad guy starts up at you then tell him to shut up and turn to listen to the good guy as much as you can. Pretty soon you can probably flick the bad guy off your shoulder all together when the scan is over and done with.
Glad you can share here - it can only help

choclab · 12/06/2010 10:48

thank you ,

I have an ovarian cyst which I have had for 2 years and is regularly scanned. I am 55.
Please relax- ovarian cancer in anyone under 50 is very , very rare.

Your GP is being thorough, that's all.

If it WAS cancer you would have many mores symptoms- possibly pain, permanent distention, bleeding maybe, and they would be able to feel a lump.

choclab · 12/06/2010 15:23

thank you purplepeony ,

i am trying to calm down a bit now .

i did have scan 2 years ago all was fine then , so hope will be now , as i had same symptoms then as i do now ..its my anx going on in my head which wont let it rest till i have further reasurance ..again ...

OP posts:
choclab · 18/06/2010 09:25

still anx , any words to calm be appriciated right now , get blood tests later , waiting for scan date ..

OP posts:
choclab · 18/06/2010 12:07

OP posts:

You need a scan to be sure.

The CA125 is only 80% accurate at best and then only in people with advanced cancer.

I'd stil chase your GP for a scan and if they are useless, change GPs toa nother surgery if you can.

choclab · 19/06/2010 14:45

i know i will have scan soon i hope , if nothing comes monday i will give them a call , my period due now so guess they wont scan till thats gone .....
will be late to i expect as so stresses worried ..
just getting myself in a right state ...i thought results were a good sign , but ocbviously not

OP posts:
purplepeony · 19/06/2010 16:46

choc please try to be calm

The results are really just checking your general health.

I have to have a scan again soon and a CA125 test. Last time my gynae joked that he wouldn't know what to do if the CA125 was raised, as it can give false positives as well as false negatives, and it is just not reliable for most of the time.

Looking at your situation coldly- it is unlikely you have ovarian cancer. If you had, you would have other symptoms, If you did have it and it was extensive then the CA125 would probably have shown it up.

Instead of worrying, try ot put your energy into making sure you have a scan as ap.

choclab · 19/06/2010 16:56

iv just got myself so upset and worried about the whole thing ...

what is the point of having the blood test if it is so inaccurate or false reading ?

sorry you have to go through same thing to .is that a precaution as you have a cyst already ?

OP posts:
purplepeony · 20/06/2010 08:04

Yes it is a precaution.

Obviously they would be negligent if they didn't do the test.
I have had my cyst for over 2 years. It is small and shrinking ( last scan almost a year ago).

I hope you get on okay but I am sure that from what you say you don't have anything to worry about.

choclab · 20/06/2010 08:19

i hope so ,
confusing with the blood tests though , is normal a good sign ?i guess it could be if not incorrect ? im also hoping that IF i had advanced OC would be very raised and poss picked up in FBC and lots others ihad done in end FEB and latest hormone tests last week ...

sorry trying to drag a posative to keep me going till scan

good news yours shrinking

Chcoclab, I've just read the entire thread and it seems very unlikely you've got cancer. I'm not a professional, but I can offer a perspective based on my experience. I had a tumour on my ovary. It was benign, but many of the symptoms were the same as for OC. I hope you get your scan soon and try not to worry, easy to say, I know.

winnybella · 20/06/2010 14:55

Get thee on the ADs. This really getting out of hand.
