Has anybody else had this/know what it is. I'm kind of on my period (end of period, just started pill they've gone a bit weird)

And sorry if TMI

I've just noticed on top of my sanitary pad bits of silvery 'stuff' like stretchy thin pieces of skin, small, grey/silver in colour.... never had anything like that before, please help I'm starting to panic about it!!

Anybody? Have been having so many problems since I had treatment on my cervix last year, I don't want this to be the start of somethign else

secunda · 26/05/2010 22:44

Can it be some sort of mucus, maybe? I haven't personally experienced anything like that.

funnysinthegarden · 26/05/2010 22:46

no sorry, just didn't want to ignore you. Prob someone along in a minute who noes tis totally normal

KodakTheBat · 26/05/2010 22:46

It seems a bit 'fleshy' really hard to describe... it's only small bits, in little, likt really thin stretchy skin

trying to resist googling, as I know it will just tell me I have cancer

any foul smell/itching?

could just be due to the pill/period OR could be bacterial vaginosis possible. it's not an std and is often caused by too frequent washing. you can get a cream or antibiotics for it but it often settles on it's own.

KodakTheBat · 26/05/2010 22:55

Slight strange smell, not offensive though.

I was seen yesterday by my gynae as I've been having problems since treatment and he suggested I take the pill to try to regulate my periods. I also get a weird thick black discharge for 4 days before each period. They have no idea whats causing that and have given my a hormone tablet to start taking to try to stop my period althogether (I have been on this period for 27 days now).

Now this What's wrong with me??

KodakTheBat · 26/05/2010 22:55

Sorry not 27 17

Ok... I have googled. Came up with a netmums conversation in which alot of people suggested this sort of discharge is common in miscarriage?? I'm 99% sure I'm not pregnant

NHS direct say 4 hours for call back. Only info on internet is suggesting miscarriage, going a bit out of my mind now...

secunda · 26/05/2010 23:26

Try to calm down. There's nothing you can do tonight, and it may just be one of those things for which there is no explanation and nothing is really wrong. It's not going to be anything that will damage you right now - maybe go back to the doctor if it carries on, or ring NHS direct if anything changes. Maybe it is something from the sanitary pad itself or your knickers?

KodakTheBat · 26/05/2010 23:29

Some on tissue when I wiped. So bizarre, have nevr had anything even similar

OP posts:
secunda · 26/05/2010 23:31

I have never heard anything like it being associated with cervical cancer btw (googled for ya!)

blinks · 26/05/2010 23:43

does the black discharge before periods coincide with treatment?

generally black/dark brown is old blood.

have you been checked for ovarian cysts? any pelvic pain/endometriosis?

blinks · 26/05/2010 23:45

did gynae mention BV?

KodakTheBat · 27/05/2010 09:22

Sorry... DP got back and calmed me down!

Thank you secunda- always at the back of mind since my treatment!

blinks - the black (it is very black - not brown at all) has been happening since the treatment. That was November though. It lasts for 3-4 days before each period and is really thick (doesn't get absorbed by a pad). The doctors are puzzled.

Not been checked for cysts - no pain. Except last few days my tummy's felt very tight and dull period pains, but not enough to take pain killers for. Whats BV?

(Am waiting for a call back from my gynae - he doesn't get in till this afternoon)

I'd be more freaked out by the black stuff tbh, though it is probably old blood - they should be investigating this.

I think you should get onto them about it. It could be normal but have never heard of it.

Sorry you are going through this

KodakTheBat · 27/05/2010 09:40

I have seen them twice since November, examined both times. He said my cervix is slighlty damaged, but after taking biopsies it doens't require treatment. They have given me hormone tablets to try and 'dry me out' for a few months, then going to see if my periods get back to normal after.
First time he saw me he was sure it was from my cervix bleeding after sex, but now I have made it clear that it only ever happens for the few days before my period he was and so was the other doc he called in. I'm getting married soon too

OP posts:
blinks · 27/05/2010 09:49

sounds like clots of old blood.

chances are caused by the treatment. with the new pain and tightness plus the grey (is it purply/grey?) discharge it warrants new assessment but try not to worry, hopefully it's nothing beyond a reaction to the treatment.

how were your periods pre-treatment?

BV is bacterial vaginosis. it often gets worse after a perid or intercourse.

KodakTheBat · 27/05/2010 09:58

I was examined 2 days ago, and he didn't find anything.

The black stuff doesn't seem to be clots. It's just like really thick discharge?

Not purply - just little bits of silvery/grey stuff. More on my pad this morning, but only after I'd got up and been to the toliet once already. There was nothing the first time I went to the loo.

I had this after cervical biopsies and treatment on my cervix. It was all very mysterious and no one had heard of it, including at the hospital, but after doing more research, I found quite a few examples of people who had had the same thing (on the internet).

It seemed very much like dead skin to me, quite fleshy, and slivery/grey like you describe. There was a lot of it, but it all came out in one go after each time they messed around with my cervix, a day or two. It sent me into a complete panic to start of with, I felt like my insides were falling out. Perhaps you have the same thing, but it has been retained somehow it is coming out in parts? I thought it was related to the paste they put onto your cervix to stop bleeding, I was told I would get a black discharge like coffee grounds, but did not get that at all, just this instead.

KodakTheBat · 27/05/2010 12:53

Thank you polkydot, glad (not that you've had problems!) that I'm not the only one that has had this! Do you think it could be because I was examined a couple of days ago? Have never had it after been examined before though
