on a personal level I would be livid (I have some lovely Sikh friends, the mum is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met, the family don't wear turbans but they obviously know a lot of people who do!).

on a political/pc level I would also be livid.

It's weird - I would be more bothered by someone joining a group like that, than if they said that to me in a conversation - I think because in a real life convo I would hope to try and talk some sense into them?

at Shiney! Tbh, I wouldn't want friends who were members of those groups.

Tis good to have you back Crispy

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 19/05/2010 21:23

Shiney - I keep deleting friends for becoming fans of undesirable pages! Bit pissed off that I ever thought they were worth being my FB friends, but hey ho! At least FB helps you sort the wheat from the chaff, in that respect!

Also, I did suddenly have a fit of concern that you would be offended when I wrote about the PSCO who came round and put 'pretend copper' struck out first! But then I thought, nah, it's shiney - nothing offends her except for DP!

TotalChaos · 19/05/2010 21:23

yes, there's just something thick and almost passive aggressive about joining that sort of group isn't there?

I am PC as they come - and have personal experience of mental illness - but to be offended at use of "depressed" . I think some words are out and out awful, others are bad when you look at the origin but people genuinely don't always realise, so a bit of gentle comment/education is the way forward, and others are a somewhat greyer area. for me anything that's SN/Learning disability related as an insult gets my back up, as it's targetting people who aren't always able to verbally understand/fight back. but other stuff, oh it's hard, as being on MN is like being in a busy pub/waiting room, and shouting something out - you never know who might be really sensitive about something...

Hello Eleanor

Shiney - I agree entirely. I do join groups though too...and now I'm paranoid that I've offended someone!

Grrrr, my PC is infected with Trojans and viruses apparently. DH is away and he is the techno geek. Should i just sit it out and wait for his return (Fri) or try and do summat? Lord knows what though

MitsubishiWarrioress · 19/05/2010 21:39

I don't get offended by peoples views, I just find if I think they have a bad point of view they sort of fade from my world after a mental 'well your a knobber/twat/waste of humanity/' and then they just fizzle out.

Although I do recognise the danger they can do to society and individuals and wouldn't stand by if someone was being victimised.

DD's final spots have scabbed over.. yayy! The cream is working Yayy! She has eaten something Yayy! She is back to talking incessantly..................................................... and role play ..I farking hate roleplay..[contented Mummy emoticon]

Poo, Crispy! I think I'd be tempted to turn it off and hide it under a sofa cushion until DH gets back!

Shiney - I feel far too strongly about far too many things....however, I do believe most of them are inoffensive to others. My mum has said many a time that she feels certain I'd have been a suffragette had I been born 100 years ago!

MitsubishiWarrioress · 19/05/2010 21:41

Crispy...Click on the virus protection (icon might be in the bottom right hand corner). Open it up and there should be a 'run scan' option which often fixes things like that.

Hello Eleanor - I cannot believe that BoF would cheat at scrabble

Yay for scabbed spots MrsW!

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 19/05/2010 21:41

Hello all.

Crispy! 'Tis lovely to have you back

Eleanor - How are the wedding plans going?

I have no news. I am incredibly boring.

MrsWobbleTheWaitress · 19/05/2010 21:41

Mitts - yay about DD getting better. But a sympathetic groan at the increased need for role-play
