Yey! Thanks mas x

sandripples · 28/04/2010 08:50

Well done MAS!

RWU - great to hear a few peeps from you and looking forward to more.

I feel a bit fed up this morning. Think its because we forgot to put the bins out in time so now we've missed it for 2 weeks on recycling - makes me ridiculously cross!! Will go away till I can cheer up. But why doe DH never think about the bins? Will go away and watch more of the Jewel in the Crown - only 2 more episodes.

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 10:36

Thanks MAs - the last one filled up fast, didn't it?

Hi RWU (waving madly) - glad to see you back! Ouch ref gall bladder removal , and yay for the happy pills working their magic.

All this talk of gardening makes me envious. Especially as I have discovered we have rats. Yikes! Yesterday i found one of my prize plants half dug up and thought it was our pesky squirrels. This morning in broad daylight we have had two rats sitting digging in the middle of our lawn. They are very little but that's no excuse. Especially as they have eaten the eggs in our robin's nest I thought there was a bit of a kerfuffle going on in there the other day: now I know why....

Sad little egg shells across the lawn.

I hate killing things (other than spiders which deserve it for scaring me witless), but I am afraid the rat poison has gone down. We have fields at the end of my little road and they seem to be coming up from there. I wish they would just stay away, but now it's war.

sandripples · 28/04/2010 10:49

Hi Cakes, yes its war on rats and mice here too - this is the constant situation! My DH and DC used humane traps for a while but they were completely useless and I put my foot down several years ago and got serious with the poison!

At the mo I have all my seed trays in the kitchen as I think if I put them in the shed they'd get eaten, even though I have put trays of rat poison down!

I've heard that if you see one mouse in the house there are at least 20 more! So I work on that assumption. We live near fields but also a canal too so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Have watched all of the Jewell now - what a fantastic cast it was and I've really enjoyed it.

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 11:16

Glad it's not just us! Got to look out and offer some rat poison to the neighbours when they get back - rats are coming through from their side (the fields are that way) and she's pregnant.

Rabbits will have to stay in for a few days as well. God, they'll be ratty (see what I did there? )It's not easy, is it?

I looked at the humane ones - glad to hear they aren't effective, it makes me feel a bit less bad.

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 11:18

I must look into this Jewel in the Crown thing. I remember it being on but never watched it. Seems I may have missed out, and I can never stand that.

reallywoundup · 28/04/2010 11:52

I'm back! I'm part of the human race again lol!!
House is a state after my long period of "bugger it, can't be arsed" but I don't actually care!
Dd is off to nursery at half twelve, then I am off to have lunch with a long lost friend, then pick up toddler group mum on the way to get dd, then off to toddlers for a cuppa and a catch up!
Should be able to get on the puter tonight to catch up with all your news, but amidst all this gardening talk I have a question- how does one start? We have a wilderness out back! Front is just simple lawn with my loungers, back seems to have been taken over by numerous playhouses and trampolines!

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 12:01

In that case, one doesn't start.

One gets a big hairy bloke to get it back into some sort of order, ideally with detailed instructions about how much to hack back and where to locate the borders. This can usually be done from a lounger, or possibly from an upstairs window.

Once that has all been done you can do a bit of light planting and take all the credit.

Glad to see you back! enjoy your day!

reallywoundup · 28/04/2010 12:11

Ahh! Good thinking batman! I have a big hairy bloke- answers to the name of hubby!!

smee · 28/04/2010 12:11

Me back too. Got home from hospital on Saturday. Am all bandaged up, one drain gone, but one still in and still draining loads, which is a pain, as I'm anaemic from losing so much and feel wiped out, but am so so glad to be out the other side. Tell me I'll feel perky again soon please..

Glad to see you're all still out here. Sandripples, are you recovered?? And Pennies too - am hoping you're not still so low. Can't remember all from before as my mind is in a bit of a fug.

Jewel In the Crown though - now there's an idea. I have Angels In America waiting for me, though the friend who donated it reckoned it might be inappropriate subject matter for now.

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 12:27

Welcome back Smee! You'll pick up once the draining slows and also once all the anaesthetic has left yuor body. Especially if you take plenty of rest.

Not sure what Angels in America is, but I'd recommend that you watch something that might make you laugh, rather than something that might make you cry.

sandripples · 28/04/2010 12:55

Yay - RWU and Smee both here! That's great I missed you. BB was here recently too so we're a full set again. Ebbie is probably lurking too.

I'm Ok thanks, though arm is tight and a bit sore. But at least I know that this goes after about 6 weeks, as it did last time and I just have to keep doing the painfulhelpful exercises. Energy levels rising. Taste in mouth yukky.

RWU - you seem to be swinging back in a big way! I've never really been sure what the gall bladder does - can you manage without one? One less thing to carry about perhaps?

I am waiting for a big hairy man to do the big stuff in my garden and endorse this approach.

I have taken the old grout off the bath today as it was annoying me. Looks terrible now And some of the little corner tiles are loose....o well, what the hell.

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 13:00

You are grouting the bathroom SR ???!! Good grief! what happened to taking it easy??

Are you sure the taste in the mouth isn't grout dust?!?

KurriKurri · 28/04/2010 13:55

Hello all - Great to see we are a full pack of cards again Sounds as if you've been through the mill RWU, but lovely to see you again, no overdoing it - I second (third?) the big hairy bloke, maybe get a few tubs to plant up and put outside - get the kids to do the watering or a little border - I started with one border, grew a few bedding plants and shoved a few bulbs in, in the autumn.

Lovely to see you too Smee, sorry you're feeling rather knocked out, it takes a little while to recover from surgery, and the anaesthetic etc. - this is a time you can feel guilt free and get everyone to wait on you

Thanks for new thread MAS, the last one filled up quickly, (did I hear muttering of 'that's because you post several times a day Kurri')

SR - I am smiling at your idea of taking things easy being to regrout the bathroom! Hope your wound is healing well, sorry about the yukky taste - that's a pain isn't it?

Snap with the rats Cakes - our house backs onto a field and we always get rats at some point in the year. I'm afraid we resort to poison too. I love wildlife - but with rats, I feel its them or us.
We're also being plagued with hornets at the moment, there must be a nest but we haven't found it yet.

I'm going to see DS's new play tonight, 'The Birthday Party' by Harold Pinter, DS is director, so he's not acting in it. They've been getting good ticket sales, which is encouraging.

Love to all, - has anyone spotted Wubbly around? I think she had surgery coming up - hope she is doing well.

Oh and happy birthday Mr.Cakes

Cakesandale · 28/04/2010 13:59

Good luck to DS, KK! Hope you enjoy the show!

sandripples · 28/04/2010 14:41

Yes good luckwith the show - how exciting!

I'm only doing the little edge bit round the bath - not the whole bathroom!! And have now abandoned it till tomorrow, or the next day...just taking off one strip of the grubby old stuff has done me in...

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/04/2010 15:20

lovely to have RWU and Smee back
Happy birthday Mr Cakes and good luck -or break a leg -to KK's ds.
No rats here I hope - I'd be really anxious if we did have them. A friend had a squirrel in her loft once which was very annoying.

sandripples · 29/04/2010 09:42

How are you all today? I feel a bit rubbish - nothing serious but energy low and now I can't taste anything properly. I made soup yesterday that to me was disgusting but DH and DS said it tasted fine! Cooking has been part of my pottering therapy so I feel a bit bereft.

I think arms feel slightly better today so that's good. Thank goodness only one more Epirubicin as don't think I could bear any more after that. Have any of you done CMF? I'll be having that and rads at same time.

Rather wet and grey here today.

Cakesandale · 29/04/2010 12:02

Hi SR

What's CMF? I don't think I can have had it as I don't know what it is (although that doesn't always mean much )

The Epirubicin does make you feel duff, so only one more to go is good. But how disappointing not to be able to taste home made soup -so comforting. But not long now.

It's still a bit lovely here, although I have just checked out the BH weekend weather and it's not good

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2010 12:02

sorry to hear you're feeling a bit yuck SR - weather being wet and grey can't help. A bugger about not being able to taste properly
Am back from my first CBT session which was good - can't remember whether I have said already about them increasing my dosage of ADs but not telling me- the doc. apologised and will speak to the psych. to see if it's ok if I stick to my current dosage -I feel ok on this amount, don't want to feel more sleepy or anything.
Hope everyone else is ok today

is the M methatrexate (sp)? my mum has this as part of her arthritis medication..she feels awful lots of the time

KurriKurri · 29/04/2010 12:18

Hi all, s it as wet and dismal where you are as it is here - I hope not. But I've been enjoying watching birds this morning - we've got blue tits in our nest box, and they keep dashing in and out with beakfuls of moss.

DS's play was brilliant last night, I was so proud of him(I feel I can boast because he doesn't get his talent from me, its all his own). And at the end of the show unknown to me he had arranged a charity collection for the Big 'C' centre, and has got three big bucketfuls of cash to donate.

I've just had a phone call from my doctor to tell me my blood results. Apparently I have a very underactive thyroid. And he's writing out a prescription for me today. In a way its a relief - I have felt so lousy for the last 2-3 months, and of course had been putting everything down to the herceptin. At least it explains the weight gain, and general wobbliness and tiredness. So although I'm going to be on this drug forever, hopefully it will make me feel more like myself.

Sorry this has been all about me - just needed to get that result off my chest - its come as a sort of revelation - I thought I was just being a wooss(sp?) because I felt so tired and tearful.

Anyway love to you all, hope everyone is having a good day. I sympathise with the horrible taste thing SR, it is so unpleasant, but it does go. Pineapple is supposed to be good for refreshing your mouth, also lemon flavoured stuff because its sharp(I seemed to remember eating a lot of lemon sorbet when I had it).

I also had CMF -its not wonderful - but then none of them are! I was quite poorly on it, but I was on the accelerated programme - so not much time to recover. But I don't want to put you off, as with everything - its very individual, and you may very well cope better than I did. Be prepared to feel a bit light headed and dizzy while your having it, but only for a short while - it goes quite quickly (while your still in the unit). I hope I haven't made it sound too dreadful - but I know you like info. And you're getting through it all really well. xx

MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2010 12:23

oh well done to your talented ds KK ! and what a nice thought to collect for the Big C Centre afterwards
Must be a relief to know about your thyroid, though of course not so nice to have to keep on medication forever.

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingleton · 29/04/2010 13:12

KK - have you seen this thread about underactive thyroids ?
here

OP posts:
Cakesandale · 29/04/2010 13:31

Glad the CBT went well MAS!

And glad the thyroid thing has been diagnosed KK. Don't worry about being on the thyroxine for ever - my Mum and brother are both on it and they are like new people since they started. It'll be fine - and it's not really like a drug, is it - it's just replacing what your body isn't making for itself!

Rain has started here with a vengenace now. Yuk.
