This is our mumblemumbleth thread. We want to eat more healthily and/or lose weight.

In theory.

Mostly we like to chat and admire teh thread mascot - he helps us not to over-eat.

If that doesn't do it for you, you can always go old-school - I know I'm too scared to go into the dark spooky kitchen now

x-post with Five. Lively in here tonight.

Thanks for the advice. Main problem with my DD is that she likes (read - thinks she has to) hold my hand against her lips to go to sleep. If she doesn't get this, howling is highly likely.

Not sure how I can move from her falling asleep holding my hand to me being able to do the gradual withdrawl.

RG - I did it the second way too, but 2) was start controversial thread in aibu but with head too mashed to realise it, and 3) was change name.

sazz - have a wonderful time.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/04/2010 22:06

I would start off by having the cushion on her bed, reassure her loads of times that you are going to stay with her while she goes to sleep but she is a big girl now and doesn't have to hold Daddy's hand while she goes to bed.

I am off to watch Glee so goodnight all.

JuJus Shiney is a friend on FB so if you want to get hold of me then send a message.

Rollergirl1 · 23/04/2010 22:13

Jujus: how old is she? How about substituting the hand-holding for stroking? It will make her go to sleep without holding you but still have physical intimacy. And then you can snuck off...?

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 22:14

Goodnight Fanny.

Have a fab time Sazz.

JuJus, the Pantley pull-off technique (No cry sleep solution book) may work for gradual withdrawing of the hand.
The idea is based on babies/children who fall asleep by sucking, and thereby the time on the breast/bottle/dummy is gradually shortened.
As they're dropping off, you take it away and then if they still fuss after a few secs, you can put it back, but I found that gradually DS was awake when I put him down to sleep.

TrillianAstra · 23/04/2010 22:19

Have fun Sazz! Hope it all flows smoothly for you!

RG - she's 2.9. I'd do the stroking, but she gets so tired and wound up that anything other than what she wants results in further howling etc.

Wasting - I'll try to introduce that, but it's not easy as even taking my hand away for a moment is likely to precipitate howling...

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 22:27

I think if you start by taking it away when she's asleep, you can gradually do it when she's just dropping off etc.

bellavita · 23/04/2010 22:29

Sazz, have a fabulous time.

JJD - hope you get her sorted.

lotster · 23/04/2010 22:33

I'm back, full and slightly less head-bangy.

Is Mitts still on the phone??

Roller - hangover was from a pathetic four drink last night watching/listening to live music at Bedford. Got a babysitter and everything. Found myself desperately trying not to slur at her after the brisk walk home seemed to accelerate the effects of the booze! Woke up in make-up.

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 22:34

I've just smothered myself in Dove's version of holiday skin to make my legs presentable. And I now smell like an apple turnover (mixed with the the wine in my hair - yum). I'm questioning the sanity of settling down into my white sheets with aforemention tanning stuff on

Jujus - have faith. I don't know of any women that still have to go to sleep holding their fathers hand...so it will work in the end

Oh what bliss - pineapple dance studio is now on....

bellavita · 23/04/2010 22:37

hells, is it easy to apply? Does it go streaky if you are not careful?

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 22:39

Bella - I am a Dove virgin so I have no idea how it will turn out . But I did try Johnsons holiday skin a while back and found it really easy to apply - you just put it on like a body cream. It looked very natural (though I am olive skinned to begin with so I guess that helps). Apparently the Dove version is even better....I'll keep you posted.

lotster · 23/04/2010 22:40

HellsBelles - Andrew Stone is a triple threat you know
God he is such a tool - love that show. Although the previously funny randoms bursting in to a dance routine whenever Louie isn't looking is getting a bit predictable now...

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 22:41

I love pineapple!

Andrew Stone is such a car crash!

Hells - maybe Calvin Klein will pick it up?

Alkie patisserie - by Calvin Klein

Yes, where is Mitts? Is her brother POTUS by now?

JuJusDad · 23/04/2010 22:43

hells

I've just checked on her - picked her off floor where she was lying on her duvet and pillow, wearing socks, skirt and inside out top (possibly pj top), but most importantly, her nappy and a blanket on top.

So lay her on bed, let her hold hand a while, she let go and she's back to sleep.

Thanks all. I'll be a bit more gentle on her but consistent with her. I think maybe I hoped for too quick a result and so went to hard on her

JuJusDad · 23/04/2010 22:45

I should explain - DD went to bed wearing nappy and pj's which match and were the right way out.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 22:47

JuJu - No advice, but sounds like you are doing well

Sorry, I have a couple of Hellspawn, but they are (mercifuly) both good sleepers.

wastingaway · 23/04/2010 22:53

Bless her. I'm dreading taking the sides of the cot off here.

Slugbrains · 23/04/2010 22:58

i go out skating and you lot talk for england. I think i am too tired to catch up and post. Picked a bad day for going to rink tomo as they have an event which means lots of screaming kids, and shit ice. Hopefully it wont be tooo bad but we'll see.

Got told i was a good skater today which made my day and a few much needed hugs. Love the rink atmosphere.

lotster · 23/04/2010 23:12

Ooh Louie Spence from Pineapple on Jonathan Ross now!

hellsbelles · 23/04/2010 23:15

ohhh - thanks Lotster!

I think I have mentioned before but i have inside info that Andrew Stone is NOT 28 but actually 36.

Jujus - that is perfect 2.9 behaviour ...of course nappy and blanket should go on top.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 23/04/2010 23:15

Hiya slug.

Does that mean you are going to have a decent nights sleep?

Rollergirl1 · 23/04/2010 23:16

I want to chat but DH having none of it now. Being pulled away......
