Very interesting article.... thank you.

Was ill again this morning.... funnily enough had a fruit salad late last night and now wonder if it was that to cause my setback this morning.

It is definately only after certain foods.

Baggybear - thank you hun, im getting there - just wish October would hurry up!

Hi J&BM,
just found this thread now. I was diagnosed with cd last year. Had similar symptoms to you and let time pass before attending a doctor; bleeding getting increasingly worse as time went on .Took a year with steroids first and then azathioprine (which i'm still on but took 6 months to kick in) to get strength back. Very important to get checked out and treated asap 'cos it's the active untreated disease that puts you at risk.
My heart goes out to you wrt your loss. It's very difficult to be experiencing the emptiness, loss, guilt and anger etc. of bereavement on the one hand and the incomparable magic, happiness and thrill of having a baby on the other (my mum died in 2002 when I was 3 months pregnant).
Sorry to ramble on, but very important for you to get care. OK, to take drugs is not desirable but you have to safeguard your overall wellbeing and the the sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy investigations are no big deal (after having a baby!)

Thanks WG - it is so nice to know there are others out there, and you are all helping me so much with the loss of my mum - even if it is just to understand the condition a bit more. I was too young to really know what Chrons was when mum was diagnosed, and something i never really looked into until she died last year. Had another set back on saturday, but so far so good.
Because of the pregnancy bit, they cant do anything until October, so will have to wait til then, but Im even more determined to at least get tested. Doc thinks it could just be IBS but then could be the start of Chrons.... we just dont know.
Mum went through years of tests etc before getting a diagnosis so hopefully i will nip this in the bud early enough.
You are all such a tower of strength and I really appreciate everything you all say.... it does help, and I hope we can keep this going for my own sanity more than anything!

Hi, J&Bmummy. Hope you are okay. Been away for weekend and have only just looked at thread again.

Not sure if you've seen anywhere on MN but I had a miscarriage last week so feeling a bit down. A bit worried Crohn's might raise its ugly head again as i'm feeling so low. Fingers crossed it doesn't. Don't think I could deal with that as well. Seeing doctor today to make sure all is okay.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 16/08/2005 10:51

Awwww hun, didnt catch that. So very sorry for you. I hope you can get through this and Ill be here if you need to talk. Thinking of you xxxx

baggybear · 16/08/2005 20:19

Thanks J&BM. I'd like to say I'm getting over it but don't think I can. Really wanted that baby, y'know. I thought it would be easier now but having a really hard time again tonight. Feel like my future is completely messed up...

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 16/08/2005 20:43

listen hun, i know its hard now but it wil lget easier i promise.... there will be other chances, and it will be the most loved baby ever.

I feel quite guilty posting considering i am huge with a baby kicking about inside.

baggybear · 16/08/2005 22:09

Don't feel guilty, I have no bad feeling towards any woman who is pregnant. I think it is wonderful that you are having a baby, I'm jealous but not bitter I have a good friend who is 6 months pregnant and she was frightened to come and see me although she wanted to give me a big hug. I felt more upset that she didn't come and see me than seeing her bump.

I'm glad you are pregnant, and glad you can feel that little bundle kicking your insides to bits (not bitter )!! Seriously, though, don't feel guilty, theres no need.

I know there will be another chance and I will adore that baby as much as I do my DS's.

Anyway, how are you feeling today. Is the fruit salad still giving you jip?

CountessDracula · 16/08/2005 22:14

OMG can't believe I have missed this thread.

j&bm WELL DONE you for getting seen.

Baggybear so sorry about your horrid news Hope the crohn's stays at bay.

Erythema Nodosum are the leg lumps arent' they? I have a huge scar from one that went vile on my ankle.

I am trying to wean off Azathioprine at the mo as am sick of getting every cold etc going. Has anyone else managed it without severe relapse?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 16/08/2005 22:27

So much food is giving me hell - Fruit, Nuts, bread if too much in one day, spicy foods - you name it!

Another set back yesterday.... these are getting more and more frequent, so really must concentrate on what im eating!

Are the tests ill need to have quite intrusive?? Im imagining they are but dont really know too much about them!

CD - when were you diagnosed and what where/are your symptoms?! Sorry, im nosey!

baggybear · 17/08/2005 09:24

Morning.

J&BM - the tests you will need to have are quite intrusive but give you answers straight away. I had a colonoscopy and was told I had crohn's the same day. I asked if I could be "knocked out" during my colonoscopy, and they gave me gas and pethadine, so I wasn't aware of anything. They aren't very nice procedures but they do give you answers so its worth the small amount of discomfort. I hope you are feeling better today. You must keep an eye on what food makes your symptoms worse - I know its restricting but you must stay well. {{{hugs}}}

CD - I have only ever taken Asacol. It worked well after my last flare up and kept everything under control. Have weaned myself off now and I'm not taking anything (hooray). My consultant is quite happy with this as if I do have another flare up, hopefully I won't have to resort to stronger drugs.

I had those awful lumps on my legs. I'm sure people used think I was being beaten!! They look terrible. I had one on my calf, the summer I was VERY ill, and it was the size of a tea plate. It just wouldn't shift and hung around all summer. I couldn't wear shorts or skirts, even though for the first time in my life I had the legs to wear them (due to weight loss)!!!

WOO HOO!!!

Cant beleive you changed your name!!!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 19:06

Howdie J&Bmummy!! Oooo, I'm glad to hear things might be on the move!! How exciting!!! Do you know what your having (obviously a baby! ). What is your due date?

Ooo, Its so good to be chatting again!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 19:07

Name change due to possible stalker from RL on MN!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 25/09/2005 19:07

oh dear!!! Thats not good!

How you doing hun?

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 19:43

Sorry for the delay - was eating dinner!!

I'm okay. I've got a bit of a cold at the moment and that makes my crphns falre up a bit. But it will go as the cold goes. How about you? How do you feel at the mo - apart from heavily PG and ready to drop!!!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 25/09/2005 19:55

Heavily pg, ready to drop, and the bowels are annoying me! Luckily i have been off food for a few days now, so things are calming down, but i havent been able to go 1 single day for the last 4 weeks without having a nasty episode..... and i cant even puti t down to foods.... bloody nightmare!

Ive had (and still getting over) the stinking cold too...... roll on getting this baby out so i can take proper medication!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 20:00

If you have had a rotten cold, you should put some of your "episodes" down to that. I always get more cramps than usual and more trips to the loo when I have a cold.

Not long now and then you will be able to find out the truth. You know that when you do I'm here

Do you plan to B/feed?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 25/09/2005 20:06

not really sure about bfeeding.... didnt work with Jess - my milk didnt come in so im playing it by ear... roll on getting the truth.... i need to know whati s causing all this!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 20:09

The reason I ask about B/Fing is coz I swear blimd it helped my symptoms. I fed DS3 for 2 years exactly (weaned himself 1 week before his 2nd birthday) and I didn't start getting cramps again til the week he eased off the milk. I am lucky that I go into temp remission during PG and it was extended into B/Fing too.

As far as getting the hang of B/Fing goes, take it a day at a time, stay as chilled as possible, and it will work! And it will be good for baby as B/Fing reduces the risks of developing Crohns (although you probably know that already).

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 25/09/2005 20:11

yeah, i really want to BF but it just depends on whether it works! Ive had a lot more "leaking" during pg this time round and if i tweak them, they squirt everywhere so hopefulyl thats a good sign?!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 20:11

Sorry didn't mean to come over all "PRO B/Fing" on you then. I personally think B/Fing is the best thing in the world, but it didn't work with my first 2 - DS1 was bottle fed from the start and DS2 was only B/Fed for a few weeks. And they are fine. You have to do what is right for you, at at the end of the day a happy mum is a happy baby! But what I will say is give B/Fing a fair crack of the whip.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 25/09/2005 20:13

calm down hun, im totally for it as well, and it was just pure unluckyness that it didnt happen last time!

Coathanger · 25/09/2005 20:13

Sorry! I get so passionate about it that sometimes I worry that I come across as a bit too pushy - forgive me!!!!!!!!!!!!
