Ovary ache when ovulating - normal or not?!

I don't remember having this before but since I got my periods back after a year of having DS2 I seem to get achey mid cycle and I don't like it! Is it a post baby form of PMT or should I be worried?

that should say "a year after having DS2". And I'm assuming it's my ovaries that are giving me jip, it's on both sides anyway.

normal for me

DinahRod · 27/03/2010 11:36

Yes, I used to get this (pg at present) every month as part of my cycle but quite useful, I rationalised, when ttc! However, if it's unusual for you, maybe you could get reassurance from your gp.

PuppyMonkey · 27/03/2010 11:37

Ooh I get this... I had it the other day in fact. Quite handy to know when you're ovulating, that's what i always think.

runnybottom · 27/03/2010 11:38

Its normal for a lot of people, its called "Mittelschmerz"- middle pain.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/03/2010 14:52

I have always had this - but runnybot - I didn't know it had a posh name

Yes it is always uncomfortable, but on the upside it was straightforward conceiving!

jallsort80 · 27/03/2010 15:01

Yes I'm glad to hear i'm normal!!!!! Never had period pain in my life but after getting periods back after having DS had pain in 'middle' of the month. Still do not have any probs with period pain.

And thank you runny bottom for giving it a name do u think that will aquire me more sympathy!!!!!??????

SpeedyGonzalez · 27/03/2010 15:03

I sometimes get this when I have fibroids. Not absolutely certain that the two are connected, though.

bintofbohemia · 27/03/2010 15:03

Oh, good, thank you all for putting my mind (if not my ovaries) at rest.

SaintGeoff · 27/03/2010 15:05

Yup, normal.

I get the one sided ovary ache and a weird accompanying constipated/hot poker up bottom type sensation. V useful to know your own cycle. And although I've had it forever, I have it more acutely since having dd.

SpeedyGonzalez · 27/03/2010 15:07

I think these things chop and change, bintofb. Unlike you, I stopped having the ache after DS's birth. As long as you don't have any worrying symptoms it's probably okay.

choclab · 27/03/2010 17:55

i get this to , also along with egg white type stuff ...anyone els ?

hoomach · 27/03/2010 18:11

Yes - can be perfectly normal. As above the technical name is mittelschmerz. The theory is that when you ovulate a tiny bit of blood is released into the abdominal cavity causing a transient irritation.

clayre · 27/03/2010 18:15

i get it only on the right side every month, have it now actually, not very useful for me as im not trying to concieve.

choclab · 27/03/2010 18:19

i get this stuff most months for few days , when ovulating i guess

bintofbohemia · 27/03/2010 18:50

It hardly seems fair, you get past this bit and the PMT kicks in. It means there's only really two weeks of the month where I'm not being mithered!

OP posts:
choclab · 27/03/2010 18:57

i know exactly what u mean ... pmt build up ... then period....then ovulating pain/ and goo... then week free then pmt again .... lol ...

gailforce1 · 27/03/2010 19:32

I have (sorry TMI) bloody mucous on day 10/11 after start of period even though period finished after 5 days! Anyone any ideas?

SaintGeoff · 27/03/2010 20:04

gailforce, some people do have mid-cycle spotting when ovulating. Have you always had it or is it new?

It's probably best to get it checked out by a GP for peace of mind (there can be other reasons) but it does happen to some women due to ovulation.

choclab · 27/03/2010 21:35

i have mucus for about 4/5 days in cycle not bloody though, although have had sight once (long time ago ) doc said was normal once in a while ..

SaintGeoff · 27/03/2010 22:43

ewcm (egg white cervical mucus) is expected when you're ovulating. Key sign of fertility in fact.

SaintGeoff · 27/03/2010 22:44

In the lead up to ovulation and during more specifically...

Taking Charge Of Your Fertility is a good book if you want to understand more.

hoomach · 28/03/2010 13:41

The classic vaginal mid-cycle mucus of ovulation is slightly tacky. If you take some and hold it between two finger tips (soory if that sounds gross) and pull the fingertips apart it should form threads or strings of mucus - so-called spinnbarkeit (what is it with fertility stuff and German names?!). As SaintGeoff says, it's a good sign of ovulation and a good time to conceive if you're trying to do so.

gailforce1 · 28/03/2010 14:27

SaintGeoff - thanks for your reply. Didnt think to mention it to GP last week. She did say that my cervix was slightly open but did not say why or if it is a problem and I didnt think to ask as I was more concerned about being told I was anaemic!

nosferatu · 29/03/2010 21:26

So useful reading all this- I just had been referred for a scan today. I have been having this pain only on my left side for nearly 2 years, but (wrongly) investigated kidney stones.
The pain was gone during my recent pregnancy and now I have it back, mostly during my periods.
it is not exactly pain, it is more unconfortable then painful. it feels like something is "sitting' on the top of my cervix.
