Aspartame has been given a 'posh' new name, but don't be fooled, this stuff is toxic.

I don't know how many other parents ban this stuff from their Dc's diet.
I don't let it pass my Dc's lips if I can help it.
The link makes some interesting reading.

TOXIC

Just double-checked and DP bought the Boots own-brand version of Dioralyte, which contains the aspartame - not sure if the brand name version does.

I will check and report back.

I've been wondering about sucralose. Did a bit of research that said it was a by-product of a search for a safe pesticide. Big sell was that is was derived from sugar. Try to avoid artificial sweeteners but it's very hard - even the non, sugar-free medicines ie. Calpol seem to have some sort of artificial sweetner. I always go for the one with sugar and am apalled that it doesn't just contain sugar. Toothpaste too is another one - sweetners are so pervasive.

How does Acesulfame K fit into this sugary, artifical jigsaw?

Sakura · 12/03/2010 01:26

Thanks solo,
Ajinomoto is the main brand here in Japan.

I've always avoided diet products(coke, yoghurts, cakes, anything really) out of instinct as I always found them to be sickly sweet and thought the "mouthfeel" of the products was strange, and inferiour to the alternative "full-fat" product. I've always thought sugar is much healthier and tastier.
I didn't know about chewing gum, that is interesting as its one of those things thats relatively easy to cut out (was shocked about chewing gum +caffeine contributing to depression as I do suffer from depression)
I do rely a lot on MSG though in my cooking especially soup stock as its so easy to use as a way of getting vegetables into the kids. I must cut down on that.

solo · 12/03/2010 11:21

No idea about Acesulfame K, in fact I've not heard of it. Googling seems to be the way to go...

Sakura, I often wonder about MSG in Chinese foods, but we don't eat takeaway anymore so it's not a problem for me and my family. Is there a healthy alternative available instead?

By the way. Dioralyte(blackcurrant flavour)does not contain aspartame.

This is why I have never panicked about giving my kids a cup of tea.

If Wiki is saying Aspartame is perfectly safe, then you should be seriously doubting the accuracy of their information and wondering at their agenda.

Try googling ' Alex Jones Aspartame ' and watch the video ' Aspartame: Sweet Misery A Poisoned World ' for the movie that Pepsi and Coca Cola don?t want you to see.

My post was in response to TheFirstLady saying "According to Wiki, which is probably a more reliable source than most of those you linked to, aspartame is perfectly safe."

diamondsandtiaras · 28/06/2010 17:57

do people honestly believe that the government would allow "poison" to be put into our food? .....somebody link me some research from a reputable source please?

ivykaty44 · 28/06/2010 17:59

Rocks is aspartame free. Hi juice too but that has other stuff in. Not cheap though (rocks i mean).

Severely autistic son - we haven't been near aspartame in years. Revolting stuff.

diamondsandtiaras "do people honestly believe that the government would allow "poison" to be put into our food? .....somebody link me some research from a reputable source please"

Here you are:

92 Symptons from Official FDA 1995 List: www.dorway.com/92symptomsfotocopy.html

More info at DORway's site www.dorway.com/

And this open letter to the FDA by Dr. Betty Martini rense.com/general69/assp.htm :

"the late FDA Toxicologist, Dr. Adrian Gross, testified to the Senate: "In view of all these indications that the cancer-causing potential of aspartame is a matter that had been established way beyond any reasonable doubt, one can ask: What is the reason for the apparent refusal by the FDA to invoke for this food additive the so-called Delaney Amendment to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act? Is it not clear beyond any shadow of a doubt that aspartame has caused brain tumors or brain cancer in animals?""

diamondsandtiaras · 28/06/2010 19:18

jojo thanks for that.....very scary stuff. Why on earth has it not been banned!?? Have the government ever responded to this research or attempted to explain themselves do you know?

Recent recalls by the FDA in the US. Not too long ago, a massive salmonella outbreak was traced to a factory in Georgia which was found to have multiple violations of food production standards, plus a very spotty history of inspections. I think the government is busy looking the other way most of the time.
