My diet is pretty good already but I do like a sback when I am bored which could be a bit of a downfall . I have just started to take some vits so hopefully that will help .

Roll on wednesday It is the only time I can watch the dvd in peace and although I am scared about it I think I am more excited . I just really really hope I can do it without too much pain .

I have told a couple of people I am going to quit and although they are pleased I can also see that "Yeah of course you are " look in their eyes . How have you found people in rl ?

Company! Hello fellow fighters. I'm on day 3 too and I have to say, once again, that that rubbish about cravings only lasting 3 minutes is, well, rubbish! This morning I have barely had a moment when I haven't been fighting off the urge to smoke. I thought I was meant to be nicotine free by now!

I have a feeling like there's a bit space in my chest and everything I do seems to need to have a cigarette smoked before I do it. I'm going to try and get on with housework now.

But I'll keep checking back since there are people to talk to now.

Oh and I also feel jittery, unfocused, tired, dazed and confused.

I want a smoke very very much. But I'm not going to have one.

Well done violet.

But have you read Allen Carr? I too am evangelical about this book. It makes giving up EASY. Like really really easy. I have never ever looked back or had a serious craving.

You have been through childbirth - so you can get through a few cravings for cigarettes.......but if you are feelimg really bad, get out to buy that book.. !

Yes, I have allen Carr. Feels good when I'm reading it but as soon as I try to get on with ordinary life I find I'm craving like crazy. I'm not using patches or anything, decided to go cold turkey!

It's snowing here!

I've had to do some fiddly mucking around with phones / plug sockets etc.and a fag would have punctuated and kept my temper perfectly! Haven't had one though. I will be so so so mad at myself if I don't see this through now I've got this far.

Well, the difference between you and I is you had one moment after lunch where you went 'mmm ... fag ...' whereas I've been like a cat on hot bricks ALL MORNING!!!!! So I'm not sure it's wise to go cold turkey. It just sort of happened that way. Well, I've raced around and our flat is looking very spick and span. I daren't stop. It'll be better when I'm at work as the cues aren't so strong.

No, me neither. I veer between wanting to swear and curse over nothing or to sit with my head in my hands and cry!

The shop over the road is open now. My usual fag-purchasing venue. It looks SO tempting.

I've reached this point so many times and caved in. Then I've hated myself for caving in. So I'm not going to.

Hi everyone,
Just a quick message to say welld one to all of you who have given up - afraid I'm one of those militant non smokers but I lost my dad a month before xmas with lung cancer. He had given up many decades ago but my mum continues to this day as a very heavy smoker and his doctors believe the passive element was very significant to him.

So well done to all of you - it's not just your lungs that will thank you

You can do it violet , you have to , you are going to be my inspiration on wednesday night .

No pressure there then

winnybella · 08/02/2010 15:04

Can I join in?
I've been smoking for 15 years and am fed up.
Over last few days I ALMOST made a decision to not smoke from next morning, but conviniently 'forgot' when the time came.
So...am thinking...tomorrow?

DP smokes and is not ready to quit yet ( he did for three years and then started again a year ago).
I think I'll ban smoking in the house- we hide in the kitchen at the moment- I should have done it long time ago, anyway.
Did anyone try to quit while dp/dh was smoking? Harder or easier?

Fizzylemonade · 08/02/2010 16:29

My friend and her husband both gave up after reading the Allan Carr book.

My Mum died from lung cancer 2 days ago. Horrific. Only found because she had secondary breast cancer and it was seen on routine mammogram. They scanned her and she was absolutely riddled with cancer but NO symptoms. Primary source was the lung. She also had it in her brain.

So 10 weeks and 2 days since the breast cancer diagnosis she is dead. She had given up a year ago but smoked for 40 years before that.

It wasn't a nice, sweet pleasant death, it was horrific, agonising and painful for us to be there.

So well done to all of you for giving up, please stay strong and stick with it.
