...for our 31st Heathy Eating thread- I can't promise that we aren't re-cycling titles for the thread at this point, and like any sequel it will no doubt be full of inferior lines and piss-poor cinematography (after all, who can beat the links to Terry Wogan? Oops), but we are all here and welcome any newcomers who want to join in the frenzy and hilarity that are the Shiney threads, named for our glorious leader

We chat, support, and shout at each other in varying amounts, and try to stay on the straight and narrow for health, weight-loss or both. Join in, and have fun- it's cheaper than weightwatchers, and there are rude jokes and bargain shopping codes too- what more could you ask for?

oh i have very ample norkage, dress looks ok on though

SparklyAlice · 30/11/2009 16:24

Just got news from the garage looks like no new party dresses for me.

Will be about £1000

TheMitsubishiWarrioress · 30/11/2009 16:35

Oh sparkly.....

SparklyAlice · 30/11/2009 17:03

And another £300

TrillianAstra · 30/11/2009 17:05

Oh no! What's wrong with it?

SparklyAlice · 30/11/2009 17:07

Most of it is to do with the alternator, then £200 for the service, the extra £300 is to do with the extra labour to get to another bit. I think the horses will have to go

TrillianAstra · 30/11/2009 17:08

Can you get a quote from another garage to compare?

SparklyAlice · 30/11/2009 17:12

It always goes into the Mercedes Garage because they can get the correct parts and always give you a definite price before starting the job, which is worth a lot iyswim?

SqueezyIsBackToBlack · 30/11/2009 17:15

Hiya ladies

I must say thanks for all of these money off codes, have saved loads with Debenhams and also used the dvd one there for a Girls Aloud Blu Ray for SIL, £4.94! Fabulous, many thanks.

Had the roof (hopefully) fixed today, fingers crossed. Although we've not had rain for a few days now, I had to climb on a ladder and cut into the ceiling with a Stanley blade as it had started to bulge. Lots of water came out so am really hoping that is the end of it. Now we have to wait on a loss adjustor to see if it is worth going thru insurance to get the inside redecorated too. It's a bugger......but.....at the end of the day....in the grand scheme of things....can't complain, lots of people worse off and it's not the end of the world.

That's crap about the car Alice These garages are a bloody rip off. I take it you don't know a mechanic who can help you out a bit?

VinegarTits · 30/11/2009 18:31

Get another quote for the repairs Alice

I was told by the main dealer that my repairs for a new head gasket would be in excess of £2000, in the end i got it fixed for £650, you need to shop around, what kind of car is it? if it's just the bearings, then the alternator itself can be fixed and it will be cheaper than getting a brand new one

hellsbelles · 30/11/2009 19:00

oh Alice - Mercs are a bugger for fixing. We have to go to the 'authorised' garage too but I reckon they are just authorised to rip you off!

I couldn't see a single nice dress when I went out! Urghhh. Hopefully you'll get some good ideas from the others as I'm not cut out to be stylist!

MistressIggi · 30/11/2009 19:45

Hello campers.
Is so depressing when you have a broken car, life was simpler without one. Lots of hassle to get extra quote, but could well be worth it (had my usual garage tell me I needed a new engine a couple of years ago, then other garage fixed a bit of exhaust for £300).
Spent the afternoon in the emergency dentist with DS who had busted lip at nursery. Fortunately he cried so much when the dentist saw him that he was actually able to see inside!

MistressIggi · 30/11/2009 19:46

Moral dilemma - is it ok to watch a dvd (new Terminator movie) that you have bought someone else for Christmas?

hellsbelles · 30/11/2009 19:50

iggi - poor DS.

moral dilemma - ummm...I'd say that's a no...you'd have to break the shiny plastic wrap and they'd know and feel all used

Lizzylou · 30/11/2009 19:50

OUch at car repairs and busted lips.

Alice, get another quote, honestly, that sounds an awful lot of money.
Iggi, how is DS (and yes, watch the DVD!)

TrillianAstra · 30/11/2009 19:51

I would do it The DVD is just as good if it's been watched.

SparklyAlice · 30/11/2009 19:54

In the grand scheme of things Iggi i think its fine

With the car it is a Mercedes A class and they are a bugger to get anything done with. Used to use a small local garage but they always struggled to do the job properly and asked me to take it to the Mercedes garage instead. But on the plus side, DH has assured me we have more savings than i thought, so although it is crap having to spend some of the savings on car repairs, at least we have these savings and are not going to go short. The horses can stay too Oh, and i am allowed my dress [shallow]

Lizzylou · 30/11/2009 19:55

Ah well, it's all good then.

Good old thrifty DH's (mine's like that, I'd have spent it all on clothes, fags and booze)

SqueezyIsBackToBlack · 30/11/2009 19:56

Aw Iggi Hopefully the wee one's feeling a bit better.

Alice - see if there is a Mercedes 'approved' or 'authorised' dealer in your area. They can do repairs under warranty and are often much cheaper than the showroom garages. Mercedes Benz Direct also do cheaper repairs etc, but they're only in certain parts of the country.

SqueezyIsBackToBlack · 30/11/2009 19:57

Ooops, x post Alice. Glad it's not so bad after all

MistressIggi · 30/11/2009 20:04

Can you not use the horses to go to the supermarket etc Alice? I'm sure there are mother and horse spaces at Tescos??
The manic toddler is fine, has had many cuddles and jaffa cakes (soft, for sore mouth ). I seem to sign the accident report book every week. Getting him large roll of bubble wrap for xmas.
Given your name, you are surprisingly ethical Hellesbelles - prefer the advice of the more wicked threadsters!

Lizzylou · 30/11/2009 20:07

Iggi, DS1 is like that. At preschool I had to sign the accident book regularly, at school I get at least "YOur child has bumped their head/face today. Signs to look out for include...." and sooo many knees through trousers!

DS2 is far more sedentary, like me

MistressIggi · 30/11/2009 20:47

Yikes, Lizzy. Let's hope they grow out of it!

Nah don't hold your breath seem to spend half my life in and out of A&E still with ds. And he is nearly 5. Now that he has expressed a wish for skate board ramps for learning to tricks on his skate board i expect that this trend shall continue.

Shiney your friend's dd sounds just like my ds. We changed ds' bedtime routine tonight and even with a routine key ring it was a pita. Plus he lost the key ring. good job i am sneaky and amke 2 at least nobody got hurt and nothing got broken. Messing about and definace but wow that is progress. Will have to see what happens tomo.
