How were you after having the jab?

I've got the chance to have the jab tomorrow as I'm a "frontline healthcare provider" but I was wondering how people have been feeling in the days after having the jab?

I'm going away this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it, so if it's likely to make me feel unwell, then I think I'll pass until next weeks' clinic!

had it yesterday (only SF) and feel a bit fluey. Arm hurts. DS had both jabs and he has a raised temp - that i have treaded with calpol. Hes playing here happily now.

mears · 06/11/2009 13:14

Perhaps it is better to have them at least a week apart then.

biggirlsdontcry · 06/11/2009 13:51

wow great advice on this thread ...

i have been worried about the dc's getting the sf vaccination as my gp is not giving it to anyone & has told me he feels it has not been tested properly which has left me not knowing what to do for the best , been awake since 4am this morning worrying about this . ds (10) has mild asthma & dd (3) is prone to chest infections but doesn't have asthma so not sure if she qualifies for the jab .

inthesticks · 07/11/2009 14:08

I had Sf jab yesterday and regular flu on Thursday.
No sore arm or any other reaction to the swine flu but my left arm still tender from the seasonal flu jab.

agedknees · 08/11/2009 20:38

Anyone else felt teary and down after having the SF jab? I am normally an up person, but this week have been in tears over nowt.

sausagesupper · 09/11/2009 22:44

had sf jab at lunchtime, now have a sore arm and generally feel pretty crap, but think I had that coming already, my kids and dh all off colour and i woke up with glands up and sore throat this morning.
So, only effect of vaccine alone is sore arm!!!

FluffysBeenBittenByAVampire · 09/11/2009 22:48

I had both on Saturday. I still have a sore arm, had a bit of a dodgy tummy since yesterday but I don't know if it's related and feel a tad drained still.

charlie1000 · 11/11/2009 16:18

I had both jabs (one on each arm) yesterday and today I have been feeling completely drained of energy and have had a raised temperature. And my arms are killing me. I feel like they've been run over, especially the swine flu arm. Hoping I sleep better tonight as last night was pretty crap and not sure whether I'm going to work tomorrow, depends how I feel in the morning. I read it can take up to 14days to develop immunity so not sure how long I'm expecting to feel like this for, but hope it's not long

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/11/2009 20:09

I had it this afternoon and am starting to feel a bit achy/dizzy and wiped out, with arm a bit sore, not looking forward to tomorrow really!!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 11/11/2009 20:10

especially since I had the seasonal flu one in the other arm at the same time!

Mamamoppel · 11/11/2009 20:36

Find this threat fairly reassuring... not that I like a sore arm. I'm heavily pregnant with severe asthma and begin to come round to having the jab as I don't fancy the idea of leaving dh behind with dd1 if actual swine flu got me and got me bad. GP fairly reassuring that bump (dd2) is completely developed at this late stage and should not be affected at all (unlike early in pregnancy). Still, not sure, not sure... Interestingly, GP said not to have the normal flu vaccine because normal flu is not that bad and no worse in pregnancy.

worley · 11/11/2009 20:50

im having mine tomorrow also, i wasnt going to but my boss has changed my mind for me on monday when she had hers, she reminded me that we work extremly close with pregnant women and prem babies and how would i feel about passing it on to them, and if i took it home to my boys. so i gave in and book my appt.

Except when i worked with her again today her arm has swollen up and is bright red and hot. she looks like she has a big egg under her skin. and at the hospital where a friend works, 9 of the staff from here dept have gone off ill after having the jab. so im debating wether to still have it done tomorrow or not....

charlie1000 · 12/11/2009 08:17

I've woken up this morning with a bad headache and arm still throbbing. Not feeling well enough to go to work. Really didn't expect to feel this bad. I would probably say to people that are thinking of having the jab to go ahead but perhaps have the seasonal one separately as I just feel drained and head a bit swimmy. (Had both jabs on Tuesday)

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/11/2009 08:20

i had them both done yesterday, seasonal arm is fine, swine flu arm feels like I've pulled something and also been punched, a bit.

Feel off colour and a bit sick but am mainly just tired as I could NOT get to sleep last night at all, even though exhausted. Otherwise OK.

ninedragons · 12/11/2009 08:31

Absolutely zero side-effects. No sore arm, no sniffles - if I hadn't seen the GP put the needle in I would have known I'd had it.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 12/11/2009 11:17

My FIL just said he read that it was an inactive vaccine so I couldn't be feeling unwell - after asking me how I was feeling, when i of course said "a bit unwell".

Madsometimes · 13/11/2009 11:34

I had my jab yesterday and I was not very brave .

I got myself so worked up about the vaccine that I needed to lie down in the next room for 5 minutes. The nurse was worried about me fainting on the way home. She had to sit me down and give me a lecture about the importance of keeping myself well because I have young children to think about. I am feeling rather embarressed now!

Today I have a sore arm but no other symptoms. Dh and dd2 both had flu symptoms in early August, so I have possibly been exposed to SF already.

The nurse wanted to give me both the SF and seasonal flu vaccine yesterday, but I declined. They would have used different arms, but even so I want to have the vaccines separately.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/11/2009 12:01

that was a sensible move, I had them both at same time and felt a bit off colour yesterday and feel quite unwell today, wish I had separated them but didn't get any choice!

ThatVikRinA22 · 13/11/2009 12:41

ive had both (swine flu and seasonal) as im in the nhs too. i believe that the swine flu is not a live vaccine, and i had no side effects with either jab.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 13/11/2009 12:53

Yes it is inactive/not live, but you can still get side effects..

worley · 13/11/2009 22:50

well i had mine and didnt even feel the needle going in, but within 5 mins had a tingly arm and has just got worse scince, its now really itchy, hot, swollen and bright red. i cant stand even my sleeve being on the arm. had to take paracetamol and ibuprofen as ive ached all day and had a headache.

wonder why some people arent getting any side effects and some are? does it depend on what type your given? i had the pandemix on but not sure what the difference between the two are... off to goole them i think and find out why theres 2 types.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 14/11/2009 07:49

I think nearly everyone is getting the Pandermix, some are just lucky enough not to get side-effects I think!

liath · 14/11/2009 08:04

Had them both on thursday. Swine flu arm is still sore and I had a sore throat yesterday but feel fine otherwise, just relieved I've had it TBH.

mowbraygirl · 14/11/2009 10:26

My husband and I had ours done on Wednesday both had had sore arms but that is all. Whilst there asked practice nurse to have a look at a rash I had that started the day before. She diagnosed shingles in the very early stages so started straight away on cream and tablets. I am feeling ok a bit tired and not hungry but that is all. The diagnoses was made after I had the injection but doesn'5 seem to hae had any effect.

Sidge · 14/11/2009 21:32

DD2 and I have had our seasonal flu and swine flu jabs this morning.

We both feel fine; slightly achy arms at the top but otherwise no other side effects.
