How were you after having the jab?

I've got the chance to have the jab tomorrow as I'm a "frontline healthcare provider" but I was wondering how people have been feeling in the days after having the jab?

I'm going away this weekend and I'm really looking forward to it, so if it's likely to make me feel unwell, then I think I'll pass until next weeks' clinic!

Hi,
I heard from my mum who lives in Switzerland that Pandemrix is not being used for pregnant women and children under 17 as it has a certain ingredient which is not recommended for these groups.

Just thought I mention this here.

I got both swine flu vaccine and normal flu vaccine on my thighs yesterday. I can't walk today!! they both have seemed to have paralyzed my muscles and they are very painful. I didn't want them in my arms because I need use them for work.

I had swine flu jab Monday evening, and initially didn't get any side effects apart from a very sore arm - also slept very badly the 2 nights since then, but I think that was mainly caused by the sore arm (I am pregnant and at the stage where I can't sleep on back or front, only on my side which was not very comfortable on my arm!).

Last night I started to feel quite achy though, especially my back, and today have still had backache, and also a headache and feeling very tired. Not sure whether that is related to the jab or just general pregnant-ness though! No serious effects that I have noticed though, and bump is still wiggling around as normal.

Both dds had second dose of Pandremix this morning. No effects so far, though dd1 has slightly sore arm (dd2 doesn't appear to even have that). I think they had a bit more reaction to the first dose, but not much.

I had my vaccination today, i only had it done earlier and at the moment just have a bit of a sore arm at the top near my shoulder but im sure it will get worse as i also moved today so have been using my arms a lot more than usual!
Its quite embarassing but i really worked myself up, i made an idiot of myself in front of the doctor and nurse and they had to get me to drink some water and lie down as they thought i might pass out!
I feel quite tired now but i think its mainly because i couldnt sleep last night through worrying and then had to think about it all morning so think i just exhausted my brain.
Dear oh dear! Hopefully others are not being as wimpy as me!

I had the swine flu jab on tues (its thursday now) and I still have a very sore arm. Its red, swollen & hot, & painful whenever I move my arm. Feels like ive got a 'dead arm' like someone has punched me in it! Didnt expect it to be this bad but some people are getting worse reactions than others I think. Feel ok otherwise though

dikkertjedap · 19/11/2009 09:35

I had yesterday both the normal flu jab and the swine flu jab. The arm in which I had the swine flu jab is very sore, and this morning I had weakness in that side of my body (e.g. difficulty standing up). However, I can walk round okay, but feel really under the weather. Also nauseous, tummy upset, etc.

It could be that it is a coincidence as there actually is a large swine flu outbreak wwhere I am, so may be it is not the jab but aswine flu. Apparently it takes two weeks to build up immunity after having been given the jab. I feel totally naggered and beaten up.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/11/2009 11:32

If you still have weakness in one side then that justifies emergency appt with gp I think.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/11/2009 11:37

(or even a&e)

Just wanted to update again to reassure people!
....I had my jab on Wednesday, had a sore arm at the top and felt like crap (but think it was because i panicked so much).
Thursday i woke up feeling like my arm had been smashed by a hammer, and my neck and ribs etc all on the left side where i had the jab ached for most the day.
Its now Friday and my arm almost feels back to normal again.
I was expecting it to be a lot worse.
So basically, i think for most people its just a day or two of discomfort.
I also spoke to my mums friend yesterday who is a GP and she said having the jab was one of the best things i could have done for my baby as they have started sending off swabs at some practices in my area (Kent) and its being confirmed a LOT!
I feel much safer and happier now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2009 14:50

After a morning of feeling a bit under the weather and a bit of a temp dd is fine after hers yesterday. Sore arm but otherwise almost back to normal.

Twink · 20/11/2009 15:57

Quick question to those of you who've had the jab: Dd and I are having it tomorrow morning, I've got a mountain bike race on Sunday, she should be playing her cello on Tuesday, am I living in cloud cuckoo land to think with a dose of paracetamol we'll be ok?

Can't put off the jab as dh has compromised immune system, is terminally ill and swine flu would almost certainly mean any hope of him making Christmas would be out of the question.

TIA

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2009 18:29

dd played her violin a couple of hours after. Did take a dose of nurofen to help her though.
Not sure about the mountain bike race, you'll have to play that one by ear I think.

Twink · 20/11/2009 18:42

Thanks Kitten, will pick up some Nurofen when we have the jabs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/11/2009 18:47

Good luck with them

dikkertjedap · 21/11/2009 21:54

Well I had the jab on Wednesday early evening. Very sore arms during evening and night (also had normal flu jab). Next morning side where I had swine flu jab was weak (initially could not stand on that leg, just buckled) but after 10 mins or so, was fine and could walk okay but very tired. Went to work, felt awful. Went home at lunch time took 2 paracetamol capsules (can't have nurofen with my asthma) in spite of this 1 hour later had 39 degree celsius. Absolutely rotten (did not know if it was jabs or real swine flu), whole evening and night, blinding headache, could barely move my neck, really awful. But on Friday much better and now almost back to normal (apart from sore arms and tiredness). But quite concerned about dd (3 years, 8 months) who had both jabs today (needs booster in 4 weeks time, so this is first stage). She has been shaking uncontrollably a few hours afterwards, very sore arms, low fever (38 degrees celcius) but this is with the calpol maximum dose (for the pain). Quite worried. Out of hours doctors say can come and see them but there is hours and hours wait because there is a massive swine flu outbreak in my area apparently. Not looking forward to the night, she is eating crisps (appetite for crisps is okay) and watching TV quite happily at the moment though.

Emster30 · 22/11/2009 17:56

I had mine on Thursday (at 5+5 weeks pg) and the only side effect I've had has been a really really sore arm which has eased today. The first couple of nights I woke myself up every time I rolled on it. But that's it.

Just panicking slightly about all the fuss about having it in pregnancy now... oh well.

Julie999 · 22/11/2009 23:26

Had pandemrix on friday afternoon 3pm! and feel absolutely fine, had a slight sore arm on saturday morning but only because I was actually focussing on it! Worried about nothing, so glad I had it done now, and the mid wife at UCH said she had done loads of jabs on preg women and the only complaint they had was a sore arm.

All the best
xx

Twink · 23/11/2009 08:30

Well, no bike race for me but that was mainly down to miniT's reaction. Purposly didn't mention the possibility of any side effects to avoid suggestion; we had our jabs 9am Sat and almost immediatly both our arms stiffened, this spread into shoulders and necks during the day. 03.30, she appeared crying 'Mummy do something' and promptly threw up. She had aching legs and dizziness as well a fever all day yesterday so had Calpol to keep her temp down and has gone off to school this morning, much better but with a sore arm.

My arm is much better but I've still got swollen lymph nodes in my neck. Definitely not like the 'ordinary' flu jab for us!

TheFoosa · 23/11/2009 09:22

my dp had his Pandermix jab on Saturday, he had a sore arm for 24hrs but otherwise fine

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2010 15:32

Had it on 3 days ago and my arm is still sore, bit of a bump there too!

sunburntats · 05/02/2010 15:38

Had mine 3 weeks ago, arm was VERY sore for about 4 days, couldnt push doors open or answer the phone with that arm.Completely back to normal after that.
3 weeks on i feel achy, very very tired, almost post viral in some respects.
Drinking lots of fluids and weathering the storm.
Im a "front line" worker and so far have only come into contact with a couple of swine flu pts. Glad i had it, feel a bit more reasurred have to say.
