I am going in to hospital for a biopsy and will be having a general anaesthetic. I have told DH I might not wake up (is that possible) so just in case....

good luck

although i anticipate numerous threads btw now and then

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/09/2009 20:19

I don't want to leave my babies.

I know I am being stupid.

I had an op once and had it with a spinal block as I didn't want the GA as my baby was only 15 months old.

My DD had a GA at 22 months and it was agony waiting for her to wake up.

Don't apologise for needing to talk And we don't have to listen, we could quite happily bugger off to another thread if we didn't care.

You will be fine. Uncomfortable and worried before hand, yes. But fine. SO many GAs are done every single day.

mmrsceptic · 27/09/2009 20:24

Fab, what you are worried about is vanishingly rare. I just checked. Vanishingly rare, and is usually linked to complications of surgery or significant pre-existing conditions.

You are not going to leave your babies. You will find out the X factor results next Saturday. You are going to be fine.

BitOfFun · 27/09/2009 20:25

Oh pull yourself together you great divvie, honestly!

whyme2 · 27/09/2009 20:25

you only fall in love with the anaesthetist because they have a secret love potion which they slip in. Then you can't complain about all the bruises . .

mmrsceptic · 27/09/2009 20:26

I remember the name of my anaesthetist from 14 years ago. Such a reassuring bloke. I nearly asked for a divorce on the spot.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/09/2009 20:27

I have been called a numpty and a divvie and it just made me laugh .

TheWheelsOnTheBusHaveFallenOff · 27/09/2009 20:28

please don't worry. I've had two GAs this summer (get me!). The anaesthetists were lovely, so reassuring and yes, I fell for them both just a little. and one of the surgeons ... .

onepieceoflollipop · 27/09/2009 20:30

I had a GA years ago and was very distressed, partly due to circumstances (following m/c) but also because I thought I might die.

The nurse/care assistant was so lovely, so motherly and kind. She held my hand literally and calmed me down. They have to calm you down as it makes things go smoothly, they don't want to put someone under who is sobbing hysterically and catching their breath (as I was initially)

dizzymare · 27/09/2009 20:30

FBG you can't die, don't be selfish, I we need you

((hug))

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/09/2009 20:31

It is in the same place as where my DH went and he had a lady do his precedure.

Oh God, I hope it isn't a man...

If all aneathetists are this lovely, I might opt for an epidural in November after all

Dizzy is right (as ever ) - we need you!!

Oh I know you are right shineon. I feel really stupid for being scared. All I can think of is how shit it is to have no mother and my kids seem to like me so I want to stay around for them.

This might make you laugh ...

I had a missed miscarriage and had to have a D&C. You're only under the GA for about 10 minutes, apparently, but I don't react well to anaesthetic and had to be brought round with oxygen.

The surgeon came to see me just as I was waking up to tell me that all had gone well.

I said to him:

"So you didn't find Lord Lucan then?"

He very kindly reassured me that the contents of my womb had not revealed said criminal.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/09/2009 20:40

Bless you.

'seem to like me'
You will be fine. I have fond memories of my GA a few years ago, the circumstances were horrid but I felt so looked after by the nurses and doctors. Anesthtists train for a very long time and it is very, very rare that people have life threatening complications from anesthetic.

I've picked out my coffin too. I want a willow one.

See you on Thursday x

BecauseImWorthIt · 27/09/2009 20:50

Oi FBGIB - it was supposed to make you not !!!

EccentricaGallumbits · 27/09/2009 20:51

I had to have a GA a few years ago. (little looksy around my knackered lady bits). while waiting to go in I was sobbing into my sheets. Some cowbag nurse said 'why are you crying' to which I replied 'I don't want to diiiiiieeee'. followed by whatever numbers and statistics I had memorised.

Anyway.
Turns out I didn't die. I did declare undying love to the sexy australian anaesthetist who came to sort me out becaus my BP had plummeted but on thewhole it wasn't too shockingly awful.

DD had a GA last year for an endoscopy. Was even worse than doing it myself. but he was fine too.

So stop being a huge great jessie. pull youself together and pack some nice smelling hand cream, some rescue remedy and a heat magazine.

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 27/09/2009 21:00

Did I mention that the form doesn't match the consent form I have signed for what I am having???

I am off to watch CSI now and try and stop being a numty, divvie and jessie .
