Injection into shoulder and now feeling a bit sorry for myself

Bit of a poor me post. GP gave me a steroid shot into my shoulder today. I felt pretty blase about it, thought it would be no big deal. Not had one before.

The shot itself was pretty much ok, a couple of points were a bit ick but I've had much worse stuff in life. The exam before hand was very ow. After he'd done it he said it hadn't gone as smoothly as he'd hoped. Looked at my shoulder movements again and decided to book me in for an ultrasound in case theres a large tear.

I'd walked up, the walk back was horrid. Arm started really aching. Felt sick. Had to stop off and buy a chocolate bar cos was worried was going fainty. what a woose I am!

I can barely move it now. Painful and restricted. He did warn me but I thought 'pah, I'll take some anti-inflamms and I'll be fine'.

Worst of it is, dh has gone away for a week this afternoon (hence my moan here) and I've got a flaming meeting here tonight so I can't just have a bath and go to sleep.

Did he not give you a local anaesthetic when he injected the steriod?

Pop your arm into a sling if you have one, this will help to take the weight of your arm off the shoulder. It shouldn't be like this I don't think.

Actually I don't think you are supposed to be moving your arm, DH had something injected into his shoulder and was told to keep it as still as possible so it didn't disperse, or something

Fluffy - it was lidocaine/cortisone I think. He warned me I wouldnt be happy with him this afternoon.

Perhaps a sling is a good idea, feels a bit overly melodramatic but I'm sure the aching is spreading due to me trying not to move it.

cocolepew - same with my Dad. He was in severe pain and he had to drive home form the GPs surgery and could not change gear in the car or use both hands on the wheel.

I have the upmost sympathy, having walked the 25mins back fromthe dentist in tears the other day. Doesnt matter that its just a temporary state, its how you feel at the time that counts. But you will see light at the end of the tunnel. How long will your meeting be? Treat yourself to hot choc and bed straight after

exactly same thing happened to me 2 years ago

it made not a jot of diference i am sorry to say

it took well over a year before i could put a coat on without looking freaky

meeting should finish 10:30ish mustrunmore. Embarrasingly will have to get one of them to get my meds box from wardrobe shelf. there is no way I can get it down. didn't think that one through really.

i am so so so sorry that you had to go through this

the needle is as big as my arm and it hurts like bloody fuck

you need lots of tlc - and posters with more thought and compassion clearly!

its horriblehaving a dodgy shoulder running round for the lost arm of your coat - staring at a jumper wondering the best way to appraocj it.

and you are right jumpers are challenging. So is forgetting, trying to hold the door open for an old person then having no choice but to let go and let it slam in their face. - sorry old man in the bank

I had one of these many years ago. I didn't look at the needle but my brother was in the room (he was studying physical therapy and wanted to watch ) and said the needle was huuuuuge. Actually, it wound up working really well for me and my therapy for my torn rotator cuff really kicked off after that.

Much sympathy I had oneonto my elbow today as well.

I have had them before into my shoulder, and I dont react as bad as you did, managed to drive home, and didnt really get sore till about 4 hours later.

Have had these. Hurts like buggery during, so sharp and grindy. Hurt likes stink after!
The heaven of that dull throbbing ache for 2 days. Keep taken Ibuprofen (if you can).

It worked amazingly well on both my shoulders (once the blinding pain went)

Had one in my hip joint a few years back.....owwww, you have my sympathy. Bad news it it had no long term effect and I am still struggling to sort the same chronic problem...this time it's physio exercises.

Elbow seems more wince making than shoulder - more bone and less flesh Shose. I hope it helps you.

Feel very indigestiony now (full of moans me tonight). Don't usually get it, probably just being tense thats doing it.

I am ensconced on the sofa, and DH cooked tea and cleared up after, and I had the day off so have slept this afternoon, so dont feel to bad,

I have painkillers for a existing condition, so they have helped.

Will be back CMing in the morning, but only have one child in the morning so easy day.

cocolepew is right ,you are supposed to keep your arm as still as possible to keep the steroid injection in rhe right ,to give maximum anti inflammatory effect. dont use it for about 3 days if you can. you will get a much better result.

alypaly - trying best now not to use it. Its quite challenging, esp as other joints in a bit of flare (mild psoriatic arthritis but this shoulder thing seems to be a new (unrelated? dunno) thing) atm so all round I'm stiff and tired. And I miss dh (already, he only went this afternoon silly bugger I am)

I actually feel pretty fortunate when I've been to the rheumy clinic and see people who really struggle with conditions. but its not great.

Its stopped throbbing when I'm not using it. v. limited range of motion and painful when I do so I'm still being good. Pegging up the washing was somewhat of a challenge. (esp as I kept dropping it on the ground and my backs not good today)

oh hell yes.
my entire lower arm went numb for the whole day. and felt heavy for 3 days afterwards.
