Injection into shoulder and now feeling a bit sorry for myself

Bit of a poor me post. GP gave me a steroid shot into my shoulder today. I felt pretty blase about it, thought it would be no big deal. Not had one before.

The shot itself was pretty much ok, a couple of points were a bit ick but I've had much worse stuff in life. The exam before hand was very ow. After he'd done it he said it hadn't gone as smoothly as he'd hoped. Looked at my shoulder movements again and decided to book me in for an ultrasound in case theres a large tear.

I'd walked up, the walk back was horrid. Arm started really aching. Felt sick. Had to stop off and buy a chocolate bar cos was worried was going fainty. what a woose I am!

I can barely move it now. Painful and restricted. He did warn me but I thought 'pah, I'll take some anti-inflamms and I'll be fine'.

Worst of it is, dh has gone away for a week this afternoon (hence my moan here) and I've got a flaming meeting here tonight so I can't just have a bath and go to sleep.

moan over.

sort of. it seems to have worn off a bit now and the numbness is coming back a bit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/09/2009 10:22

How long ago was it that you had it done?

OP posts:
differentID · 08/09/2009 10:23

only 3 months

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/09/2009 10:36

oh dear have you seen a specialist for it?

OP posts:

no. I'm afraid I dislike going to the doctors at all. I'm currently trying to lose weight which should help with it and my pcos so we'll see how that goes.
I don't want to have another injection as I'll be unable to work properly for a few days so have to wait till I can get some holiday days in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/09/2009 10:46

Good luck with it

how is the sghoulder feeling today?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/09/2009 10:52

When I don't move it, its fine, so thats better than yesterday not great at all if I have to move and my back is generally aching loads. I'm going to book an appt with the oseotopath (bye bye money) for a week or so's time. GP said it should be fine to to do that if I leave it for a week to settle.

you know when people say society is falling apat, so they mean society or just the people that make up society are falling apart? PErsonally I think it's the latter

nightcat · 08/09/2009 11:18

I am contemplating the shoulder injection, can you tell me where exactly does the needle go in?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/09/2009 11:18

Its not something I've ever really considered lol! Are people falling apart more than they used to or is falling apart a luxury that we allow ourselves nowadays?

can I just ask - is the joint clunking a good sign? I'm hoping its a sign that the cortisone is beginning to reduce inflammation?

Ouch - been there 3 times (the maximum amount allowed I believe) and while it wasn't as painful as yours seems to have been none of them worked I'm afraid. As osteopath helped for temporary relief, but in the end had to have two ops, neither of which entirely successful.

What was your injection for - mine was for something to do with the sub acromial joint - and I have now been told that the only likely remedy it to have the joint replaced. Not sure what that means so I'm living with it for the time being - 3 years, so far and popping painkillers as and when necessary.

My biggest cause of pain is anything repetitive - and trying on clothes is a killer, all that twisting around and getting things on and off!

I hope it gets better for you - have you tried a heat pad thingy, one you can put in the microwave and rest on the sore bit. Don't be too brave though, keep going back to the GP if it doesn't improve. It took over a year from my accident to getting someone to take me seriously - it's only a little soft tissue damage, it will heal in time - bollocks!
