I feel "odd"

Today (esp this evening) Ive been feeling a bit strange and jittery. Also a bit like I might pass out but not dizzy (If that makes sense) and feel a little short of breath. I have a heart prob (mitral valve prolapse) but have no symptoms and I guess Im a little worried in case this is the start of things to come. I was discharged from my consultant 12 years ago just after dd was born so havent seen anyone since and have never been on drugs etc. Does anyone experience these things too? and if so, what is it?

yeah, call nhs direct Jampots and if you still dont feel well..try to see your own GP in morning?

You could be coming down with a virus and this is its way of attacking you

sorry to hear you're not well

Miaou · 30/05/2005 22:30

What caused you to be diagnosed with the heart prob in the first place, jamstop? Was it because of symptoms that are similar to what you are experiencing now? Sorry, not heard of mitral valve prolapse - if it is potentially serious I would ring nhs direct, if not, then get an emergency appt in the morning. Either way, get it checked out asap hun.

Miaou · 30/05/2005 22:30

Whoops, jampots

jampots · 30/05/2005 22:33

well looking back I started having palpitations and a shortness of breath so went to GP and he did a trace thing which showed a slight irregularity in my heart rhythm. He sent me for consultant appt and I had a scan which showed the slight prolapse but it cant be heard with stethoscope so very minor. Coincidentally at about the time my symptoms started my mum got a dog and my symptoms stopped about the time she got rid of said dog. The kids have had their rabbit in the house today so as I type I wonder whether its that which has brought on symptoms. Obviously the problem is there but maybe the symptom were more of dog allergy

Miaou · 30/05/2005 22:36

Did you start feeling this way before the rabbit came in? Obvious question I know, but it's easy to jump on an explanation when it might in fact be something else...

jampots · 30/05/2005 22:37

they've had the rabbit in on and off for the last few days but it does seem to be shedding its winter fur so maybe build up??? I guess I should make an appointment with GP but Ive been there such a lot over the last 6 months with my weight issues I feel a pest

OP posts:
Miaou · 30/05/2005 22:41

Why not see how you are overnight, and if you are still concerned in the morning, then make an appointment. IKWYM about being a "pest", but you have a legitimate reason to be concerned.

If you feel fine in the morning and don't want to see the gp, stop the kids from bringing the rabbit in for a few days and monitor your symptoms - as you suggest, it could be a "build-up" of rabbit fur etc in the atmosphere!

Hope you feel better soon

Miaou · 31/05/2005 09:36

How are you feeling this morning jampost?

Miaou · 31/05/2005 09:38

Oh BUGGERATION I will get your name right one day - jampots - I haven't even got the excuse that it is as difficult to spell as mine!!!!!

jampots · 31/05/2005 10:29

miaou - i had a good 8 hours sleep and am still yawning my head off. I think it maybe its a cycle of allergy-palpitations/breathless. Im going to take an anti-histamine this morning. Usually Im a serious hayfever sufferer but havent had to have more than 2 tabs this year so far (usually starts up in eary April). Also due to the fact that Im not eating red meat as such I wonder whether Im anaemic/heading that way.

Sounds like there are a lot of things that could be contributing to how you are feeling atm. Maybe an idea to keep a note of what you are eating/avoiding/in contact with for a few days to see if there is a pattern - I'm sure that's what a doctor would need you to do before they could make any diagnosis.

Has the jittery feeling gone, or do you still feel a bit "other-worldly"? Incidentally, I feel like that if I eat too many sweet things in a day - I put it down to my blood sugar levels shooting up and down.

Chocol8 · 31/05/2005 18:24

Hi Jampots - I have an irregular heart beat due to a floppy heart valve and am anaemic (veggie) and sometimes I experience the light headed, jittery feeling you describe. Sometimes, I know it's stress related and at other times, it is actually due to caffeine!

I've been on decaf for many years now as if I drink caff, it sends me all peculiar (even more peculiar than normal!).

It is a worry, and I would definitely go to the docs if this happens again. Hope you're feeling better soon. x

jampots · 31/05/2005 18:26

thanks Chocol8. In fact I do tend to drink (when I drink it) decaf coffee but have been drinking green tea (not decaf) and in fact I also drank a couple of glasses of cola yesterday. Its strange how I didnt think of it then but its all so clear now! Thanks for putting my mind at rest and promtping me to think back

check in please jammy dodger my love and tell us how you're doing

Evesmama · 31/05/2005 20:54

how have you ben today???

jampots · 31/05/2005 23:46

hello mars and evesmama - i feel much better today. i think it could be a culmination of allergy and caffeine now especially as the lovely chocol8 also seems to know how im feeling and suffers from the same prob. I didnt take an anti-hist as i really hate taking tabs unless absolutely vital and ive been out gardening today so all points towards possible bunny/cola combo - but thanks for asking
