Hi Shiney!

Your date sounded interesting.

"he told me that there was no such thing as an atheist!" - and yet he claims he is not trying to convert you.

Hmm, as a Christian meself I can see why he'd be trying to convert you, but he should be honest about it.

I do think religious feelings, or lack thereof, are extremely important in a relationship. If something is a really vital part of someone's life but their partner thinks that something is total bollocks, then how are you supposed to get close?

Ooooooh, even the mention of meeting his mother, joking or otherwise, would have me running for the hills. How many more of these "coffee dates" will you have to endure before you get some action insight into the real him? Not sure whether I'd persist to be honest. Now you've got that foxy new pulling top and you've lost, what was it, 9 pounds, you should get back in the saddle, so to speak

I'm sailing close to todays calorie limit but I'm going to have salad for dinner and spend a good while in the gym later. DS has been a bit of a test today, so I need my endorphin fix.

Sorry for the late welcome, FBG - welcome! The more the merrier - all the more to offer a boot up the arse on those days that it's needed.

FairMidden · 17/06/2009 17:27

PS anyone know where I can get blutac that isn't blue? I look like a complete freak. I may have to resort to elastoplast and spend the next 10 days looking like an 8 year old

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 17/06/2009 17:30

Hi all. I just got directed here from this thread.
I need to lose a lot of weight - probably about 5 stone, but I am too scared to weigh myself. Being fat is affecting my whole life - I am a fat, frumpy, miserable person and I so want to be different.
Actually, I'm really good at losing weight. Brilliant, in fact. I've lost stones and stones over the past 20 years, but gradually it all goes back on.
My self-esteem is rock-bottom and other areas of my life are not good either. But crying is not going to help me lose weight.
(takes a bow) so, thanks for listening, I'm going back to my SlimFast. I just need to do it.

FairMidden · 17/06/2009 17:42

Ah you poor soul, you do sound down about this.

You're in the right place though! There's all sorts here - relative lightweights who just want to shed that last few pounds, those whose main aim is to eat a healthier diet, and those who need to lose several stones (count me in!).

Is it possible that you've approached this from a diet perspective too much before? What I mean is that it sounds like there are some fundamental lifestyley type things which might help you keep it off - slow weight loss being the most helpful way of keeping your weight off. What have you tried, what do you find easy, what do you find hard, what sort of exercise do you like and why do you eat - these things might help us make some suggestions, if you would like us to

A lot of us are using this website which helps to keep track of calories in (food) and calories out (exercise). As a long-time overweight person I always shied away from calorie counting but I've actually found it to be a really helpful guide after the first few days - and it gives you graphs and bar charts!

I am sorry you are so sad about this but we will help you along the way - this thread has been a great source of support and encouragement (and the odd kick up the arse). A warm welcome

flamingobingo · 17/06/2009 17:48

Hello Lightshines.

I hope you find the thread enough of a support to shift that weight and to keep it off.

I have chocolate cake in my fridge but fortunately don't really like it.

Oh shiney...trust your instincts.

flamingo....crap waiting for it to pass if it is the meds.

LightShines I lost four stones not so much by dieting but by making gradual life style changes. Have slipped up a bit but it is easier to keep off because of better habits. It is so heartbreaking though...I hope you can stick around and get the motivation to get it off and keep it off with us.

I think I have been really good today but can't get out to exercise. I MIGHT try and get up and do an early run

flamingobingo · 17/06/2009 17:52

And I really agree about lifestyle changes.

I'm always going on about my dad, who is a personal trainer (or just about to qualify as one anyway!) - he says that you shouldn't 'diet'.

You should try to change your lifestyle so you're used to eating fewer calories and doing more exercise.

To shift the weight in the first place, you need to eat a bit fewer calories than you need to survive.

And then up it a tiny bit when you've got to your target weight - tiny being the operative word! - so you're only eating as much as you need to maintain your weight.
