For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

lol at UKIP

or rather, not lol

DD2 is being a bit like that. Not tantrums, just saying 'no, that's not what i'm doing, I've decided to do something else' and just calmly and wantonly not doing as she's been asked. Mealtimes in particular. She says 'I've decided to eat outside, and you have to feed me'. And we all do . I can't concentrate on a solution, I have decided consistency is needed, but sometimes I think maybe not. See, I can't give advice.

Dd1 was asking about voting last night, and they lined up all the leaflets that have come through the door and decided to vote BNP because they liked the smiling family with little children on the front. I said 'NO YOU CAN'T VOTE BNP!' and they said, well, you can't vote for that man, look how stupid his moustache is! So, I have some parental guidance to be getting on with at some point.

Have you taken the gloves off? I did with ds2, and eventually it sunk in, sort of, ish. I found myself repeatedly saying things like:

'you are manipulating all of us, stop it. There are five of us in this family, and you just have to get with the programme sometimes. Tough luck. It isn't all about you, it can't be, bad luck. Get off the stage, help out, you aren't asked to do that much, stop pulling in a different direction, it's annoying and it's making everyone tense. Sometimes you get to do what you want, sometimes you don't - stop acting up because you've got nothing better to do.'

I don't remember reading this particular approach in a parenting manual however.

ahundredtimes · 02/06/2009 15:28

erm - that was for the supermarket tantrum, not the wanting to eat outside. I don't think I'd take the gloves off for that. Might, on the other hand, on a bad day.

DS and I at home, DS possibly very slightly ill, and seemed quite so this morning, but by the amount of stuff he's insisted on doing today, not as ill as all that

It was when he started arguing with me and demanding jaffa cakes that I realised he probably wasn;t actually all that ill.

F&v..

Dried fruit
Half a reasonable mango
Cucumber
Tomato
Home made basil hoummous [mmm]

It is sad isn;t it when you read something you posted 2 years ag and you realize you have moved no further on whatsover, e.g

I posted about DS not getting dressed

he still won;t do it most days, without a real fuss.

I am happy in my realization that one day there will come a time when it isn;t my problem anymore

Until then I will continue to shout / sigh / wring hands / ignore / cajole / bribe / take him out naked, as the mood takes me.

It's dd's 7th birthday on Friday and I said she could have some friends over for tea. Just realised the weather will be rubbish - what can I do with a bunch of 7 year old girls, indoors. Something easy and uncomplicated that doesn't involve glitter.

ReallyReally · 02/06/2009 17:50

craft? I have links

FrayedKnot · 02/06/2009 18:05

Sewing? Have you got / can get binka stuff?

Boco · 02/06/2009 18:23

Yes maybe craft, if it involves stuff I can get hold of in the next couple of days. I don't know what binka means.

pointydog · 02/06/2009 19:15

indoors - one craft activity, party games, if you've got a garage or similar string up a pinata.

dd2 had a lovely indoor party when she was about 7

pointydog · 02/06/2009 19:40

nightmare, fran. It's horrid when your peaceful times are taken away from you

mollyroger · 02/06/2009 19:45

get a load of icing pens and those silver balls etc and let them decorate rich teas wholesome, handcrafted biscuits?

Cut out some cardboard frames with backing and they can decorate them as 'photo' frames.

FrannyandZooey · 02/06/2009 20:24

fucksakes i just got ds2 back to sleep then dp came in and woke him up

aaaaaargh

DD2 is 4 Avi. It's dd1's birthday though - she'll be 7. I seem to have got her really random presents, like a stapler and a cycle helmet.

ds1 is having breakfast with them at the hotel tomorrow
(which is extremely kind of them)
it could be interesting though - ds1 said at bedtime "grandma doesn't even know that nestle make breakfast cereals and that they kill babies"
