HOw good were your Gps at helping with this? Mines been quite bad recently Im only 27, and its been since having dd2. I have spd, and a very quick birth. Im wearing pads but hate them, but very worried about going to GP

backinthesaddle · 31/05/2009 21:40

Hello. I had TVT surgery and it is the best thing ever. Have 2 kids and was pretty bad since birth of first 4 yrs ago, and absolutely no hope after daughter born - virtually no control - just had to wear huge pads 24/7 inspite of being relatively fit 39 yr old! I had the surgery when my daughter was a year old. GP was great - very supportive and understanding. I had done quite a lot of research before, tried physio, PFE exercises myself etc and basically just didn't want to keep saying to my son 'sorry, I can't run round the park with you'. I was advised to be sure I didn't want any more children before going ahead. Anyhow, just wanted to post to give anyone thinking about whether to do anything about it the confidence to go and speak to your GP. I had about 2 weeks of discomfort but once that was over back to pre incontinent days - great not to have to wear those huge pads! I am just careful - try not to lift too heavy things and been advised to avoid proper full on running (though I do now really enjoy chasing around with my son ).

Hello
Lovely support thread I gave birth to a near 11lb baby 10wks ago and have definate bladder issues as a result. Think its a bladder prolapse

Like someone said earlier, feels like my bladder is hanging out of my fanjo when I stand in the shower, it feels like it pops out when I bend over to pick things up and I have some leakage issues after I've emptied my bladder, i seem to get dribble after that I cant control.

I also have urgency issues when I stand up after sitting down. I dont feel it so much when sitting down unless I have a full bladder.

Need to go to the doctors this week. Part of me is rather afraid of what they might do/ say!

Phew feel better for just saying all that.

Not resumed a sex life as it just feels so broken down there. Has anyone had sex with a bladder prolapse?

Kaz101 · 01/06/2009 15:18

Hi Ladies

Esp. Nervousnellie. Could I ask who did your vaginal reconstruction done pls (pm me?) I had an anterior repair for prolapsed bladder last year and my main problem was vaginal laxity. I was hoping and praying for some tightening but it didnt happen! It's nice to see people being so open about these problems ... I hardly knew what a prolapse was before I had mine and thought it was something that only happened to little old ladies.

backinthesaddle · 01/06/2009 21:52

Hi GYo. That is a big baby! With both my children I was advised to give it 6 mths for your body to get back to 'normal', particularly if you are breastfeeding as I believe the different hormone levels in your body affect things like your pelvic floor/ligaments etc.

However, what you have does sound like a prolapse, as you are describing how I felt and this is what I had. Also discovered it in the shower and totally panicked as I thought I had some growth protruding! I found going to the GP reassuring as it is much more common than you think and once you take that step you are doing something postitive to sort things out (plus it ruled out my worry about some growth!).

Like you I was really nervous about having sex with the prolapse and although my husband was v. supportive it did cause problems looking back on it. I did have sex and it was fine, though felt different!

The TVT solved the incontinence issues for me but not the prolapse as the GP, then the consultant explained that while linked, they were 2 separate issues. My prolapse seems to have improved with physio although I am aware that I may need to have another procedure in the future. Anyhow, good luck at the GPs!

Evening - I'm joining to. ever since DS 2 and DD 4 I've not been able to have a cold or cough without worrying.

lilysma · 03/06/2009 22:28

Oh god, count me in. I have a dribble if I run (without going for wee first) and sometimes when I cough. Not sure why though - no major problems after delivery of DD who is not 2.5 (forceps delivery). I always forget to do PFE. Is it basically too late now? If not, does anyone have a good way of remembering to do them?? I presume if I go to GP they will just say 'do PFEs'

Thanks backinthesaddle,
Really do need to get myself to the docs, just hard organising DH to be here to look after DD.

Hello Paranoid and Lilysma

This is a great thread to talk about this subject that isnt exactly dinner table chat!

WILL sort out my appt and see what they say.

How is everyone else doing?

Lovethesea · 04/06/2009 16:21

Me too. I'm 34.

Emergency rotational forceps delivery really screwed up my bladder (and vagina/perinium etc but that's another thread). Took 3 months to have some proper sensation of needing to pee and a chance of running to the loo. Tena are wonderful and so much better than crap maternity pads or sanitary towels. I found catheters incredibly painful given how scarred the whole area is.

By 3 months the urge incontinence (no warning just sudden peeing, usually when I stood up from sitting or laying down) had gone and bladder was behaving. Then a few weeks later it started being all urgent and frequent on me again, though not as bad as before.

Saw urogynae consultant this week (DD is nearly 7 months now) and he thinks it's just a phase and it'll be ok again (phew). Tena pantyliners are enough to cope and I'm hoping the PFE will help too as my pelvic floor is rubbish. I had to start with just trying to hold the muscle for 1 second it is that weak - I'd been trying 4 or 5 seconds which is why I couldn't feel it at all. Now I've built up to 3 seconds! Woo Hoo!

My physio has said to do the PFE every time I go to the loo - since I do that a lot anyway its a good reminder! I'm going to get biofeedback but only once I've seen the gynae later in June because of vaginal scarring. I am too tender internally for any probe right now!

Hardest thing for me is not drinking as much as I used to - I was a drink a pint of water girl when I was thirsty. Now I'm limiting it to 1.5 litre a day (ish) otherwise I'm apparantly overdrinking and stressing my bladder out.

I've been given tablets (Vesicare) that should calm the bladder muscles but haven't taken any yet. The consultant said I could try them for a few weeks then stop, but the info says the condition of an overactive bladder can be worse after them!! Oh, and they make you drowsy often - anyone had tablets given? I'm kind of hoping knowing it should improve will be enough to avoid the drugs ...... come on Pelvic floor!

ABetaDad · 04/06/2009 16:32

I hope this is not inappropriate as I am a man and 46 but..

Just want to say I sympathise with you all as it is a horrible condition and can ruin lives.

I have wear Tena mens pants when I travel or go out. They are like pull up nappies. I am 46 though and have interstitial cystitis which is a lot like overactive bladder but very painful.

I will never let DW see me wearing them and when we have sex it is often painful.

Try not to let it get you down and try to lead as normal a life as possible. That is all I can advise and wear the pants/pads of course.

stephie101 · 04/06/2009 17:07

am 30 yrs young, and had the children at aged 18 and 20, 5 years ago I had an op which is called a trans vaginal tape, it's like a hammock, that sits under the bladder, it has worked and I am very pleased with the results, can be a complacated op and you have to have a catheter for 2 days, but well worth it,also during surgery they can also give a nip tuck to make things pre baby, if you know what I mean.

SammyK · 25/06/2009 08:51

Can I join too

I am 26 and have a rectocele and cyctocele prolapse and it causes me probs with holding in urine and getting out number twos (sorry if TMI).

I have just booked another appointment to argue my case for surgery after a misersable weekend camping where I ran out of clean clothes. Apparently I am too young for surgery if it needs fixing it needs fixing!

I am a little concerned though as I currently lift at work too, and won't be able to after op so will need to change jobs I think due to my dodgy fanjo! Imagine that notice letter!

MamaMtundu · 26/08/2009 12:39

hello, I just posted on a different thread and then found this one. I was offered a tvt but chickened out at the 11th hour. I sometimes wish I had the nerve for the surgery, but am too anxious that I might be one of the few that get complications. At the moment I am using a stress incontinence device that physio recommended and am happy for now that I didn't go down tvt route. It's a bit of a hassle, but a lot better than using pads. Unfortunately I can't get it on nhs here in bristol and it is about £1 a wear. I just use it for days I'm going to be active, go jogging, have a bad cough or when feeling really leaky e.g. just before my period. You can't wear one when your period is heavy though, but then I never feel much like running around then anyway!! .. More details on previous post ..

nah, I don't think so!! I think I'd just temporarily revived a thread that had died off a month or so ago! I guess country dancing is probably as "bouncy" as trying to trampoline. It's annoying/embarassing when you get caught out like that isn't it?

anonandlikeit · 01/09/2009 22:23

SO glad i've seen this, i pissed mysdelf standing next to my boss at his desk today & spent the rest of the day smelling of pee.

I was talking to him & sneezed, it took me by surprise - and hey presto a wet patch. Thank goodness for black trousers & the hand dryer in the disabled loo!

MamaMtundu · 01/09/2009 22:56

that's hilarious!
oh no, hope you don't think I'm being unsupportive?! It's just that that is better than any of my leaky moment stories.

anonandlikeit · 02/09/2009 23:30

The trampoline i can cope with weeing myself on, but I can't do it at work. I'll have to keep a spair pair of knickers in my drawer.

If I hAdn't already done it I'd of PMSL!! [GRIN]

Sugarmagnolia · 03/09/2009 08:57

ok I think I want to join this thread but even after everything i've read still feeling very

feel like my problem is slightly different from what most people are describing - am ok running & only very occasionally leak from a cough or sneeze. My problem is that I feel like i need to go all the time, especially at night. I can wake up 4 or 5 times in the night to wee adn still wake up in the morning feeling a little wet - it's like i can't finish properly. And if it's near my period or i've had more than 1 cup of coffee i'm in the loo every half hour. been wondering if i have some kind of prolapse as can definitely feel 'something' inside that doesn't feel right. have been working up the nerve to tell my gp all this for months and finally have an appointment tomorrow but am worried I will be too embarrassed to get it all out (no pun intended! ) i don't even know what to expect - whether she'll just ask me questions or actually want to examine me....?

Sugarmagnolia · 03/09/2009 08:59

oh, also, had mri scan for hip problem last week and the consultant happened to mention as an aside that my bladder looked very full in the scan. i didn't say anything to him at the time but found this very weird as I'd been for a wee 3 times in the hour before the scan - twice in the 20 minutes before i actually went in. I'd had only 1 cup of coffee about 2 hours before and nothing else.

Sugarmagnolia · 03/09/2009 16:41

?

anonandlikeit · 03/09/2009 20:47

I hope the appnt goes well, it could eb that your bladder isn't fully emptying each time you go.
Please don't be embaressed i'm sure the gp will be able to help.

Sugarmagnolia · 03/09/2009 21:44

thanks anon, was hoping for a bit more feedback. guess i killed the thread.
