Australia and I'll be there when it's hot too so definitely need to lose some weight for my bathers.

mum2toby · 16/04/2003 14:13

WAHEY Meanmum and Mollymay!

Just to let you all know there is a slimming thread on the go at the minute called something like:

"Diet starts tomorrow.... honest!"

Everyone is doing really well on it.

Meanmum · 16/04/2003 14:21

Do we join that instead then? Or stick with the plan we have above? I don't mind either way.

mollymay · 16/04/2003 14:32

I don't mind but it might be easier to keep this thread going as we are all starting at the same time...

Meanmum · 16/04/2003 14:34

Let's keep this thread going then to and anyone else out there who wants to join in can. I didn't join the other thread (I remember it now) as I thought it had started long before I found mumsnet.

mum2toby · 16/04/2003 14:52

Fine by me....
tick tock tick tock... not long until the dreaded first weigh-in. >tremble

mollymay · 16/04/2003 15:40

look at the weigh in as the start of something really positive...at last...you are doing something about the weight...I'm almost relieved to finally be doing something rather than keep moaning and saying "I've got to go on a diet"..

p.s. I'm not back at work until next Tuesday so will be checking in to see how you two have got on then....Happy Easter...!

kayleigh · 16/04/2003 15:51

can i join in too ? i weighed myself this morning and was gutted to see 11 stone 11. I was down to 11 stone 4 after a long time dieting after birth of ds2. I lost almost 5 stone but gave up going to weekly weigh in thinking i could keep it under control and now weight is creeping back on.
Would love to get down to 10 st 7 (am 5 ft 7)but find as i near the 10st mark I always sabotage myself...Freud would have a field day

mum2toby · 16/04/2003 15:59

Happy Easter to you too Mollymay... I've got a long weekend too..... how many points are there in a case of wine???

Welcome Kayleigh!!

kayleigh · 16/04/2003 19:39

It isn't the wine that worries me over easter, it's the chocolate eggs. My two have already got quite a stash and I just can't see how I'm going to get through the weekend refusing chocolate. See, one day in and I'm already deciding i won't be able to stick to it. And I have actually been quite good today, although more by luck than judgement. I was so busy at work this afternoon I didn't notice tea time had been and gone! And with it the must-have couple (or 5) chocolate hob-nobs Good luck with the weigh-in mum2toby.

mum2toby · 17/04/2003 09:38

I got my weigh in last night!!!!!!

Current: 11 stone 6.5 pounds
Target: 9 stone 7 pounds!!

I will be VERY happy if I get to 10 stone though.
It's all a bit obsessive though, counting all these points. Theres 24 in a bottle of wine!! You are only supposed to have 40 a day and I have a full bottle of wine about 4 times a week!!!! HELP ME!

iota · 17/04/2003 09:53

As I sit here sipping a latte, I'm thinking that I need to join this thread, if I may. I'm giving up work at the end of the month, and my aim is to get down the gym and get fitter and lose some weight in the next few months.
I'm carrrying an extra stone or so after the birth of ds2 (yet I ended up thinner after the birth of ds1 - what went wrong?)I'll find out my exact weight in a couple of weeks at the gym, but I believe it's around 11 and a half stone, and I would like to be around 10 stone.

kayleigh · 17/04/2003 13:35

How are you doing today ? I'm feeling very virtuous eating my mixed salad and low fat houmous on those lovely crackers that taste like cardboard. Mmmm delicious Had some melon for breakfast and some fruit mid morning. I'm at work today and I find it much easier to stick to eating healthily than the days I'm at home. Also find evenings are a huge problem, especially when I'm sitting in front of the tv and I can hear the biscuits calling me from the kitchen...

Meanmum · 17/04/2003 13:44

Welcome to all those joining us on our mission. I'm doing well today as I've been so busy I haven't even had time for breakfast. 2 coffees and a diet coke have passed my lips. Doesn't look like I'll have time for lunch but dinner will be a must. Beats yesterday which was a total wipeout.

It's not good I know to miss meals but time is an issue today. I saw a programme once where a woman lost weight (not a huge amount but she felt good about herself) and she said it was the shift in her mind that made her feel better. She said she had lost 10 stone in her mind and that really struck me as I think that's probably where most of my problem is. Obviously I'm over weight and need to lose it on a physical level but at the same time I think I carry much more weight/baggage around in my mind and that is the first shift I need to do.

I don't eat any of that rabbit food. I just eat healthily (or try my best anyway) and cut out all the cakes and biscuits I have. Mind you if I'm craving one I'll have one as I think once I start denying myself then I get fixated on it and go overboard. I've also started exercising which is what I don't normally do. I don't go to the gym but walk ds to his childminders which is 20 minutes each way and I think that helps me too. God I'm rambling now.

Anyway, welcome, good luck and here goes.

kayleigh · 17/04/2003 19:48

Can't believe it. i was doing so well and then an easter egg was delivered to the office. it was enourmous and cracked open at tea time. I only had a tiny bit, then another tiny bit and then....
.....and then i was so cross with myself. But i won't let it ruin the rest of the day. I am having a steak & jacket potato with grilled tomatoes and mushrooms for dinner. And I will not let the fact i've been bad once today lead me into more temptation! I think it's really helping that I can talk to you here. I feel better already for confessing

JanZ · 21/04/2003 10:37

Both the "diet" threads appear to be active, so I thought I'd post here for added support!

Having started at 11st 6lb 2 weeks ago (with an unexplained aberration up to 11st 7lb mid week the first week) I am now down to 11st 2 lb!

Particulrly impressive (if I say so myself) given the big American brunch I prepared yesterday with loads of bubbly/Buck Fizz (we had had some friends and family around for a Great Easter Egg Hunt for ds, followed by a full American style brunch for the adults) and a few mini eggs!

I think what helped was that I prepared so much food - American pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, orange muffins, banana muffins, welsh rarebit muffins (very yummy!) (from Nigella's books), kedgeree, three types of melon, strawberries, (dh did the bucks fizz, the bacon and the sausages) - that by the time we were ready for brunch, I was no longer particularly hungry!

Now I just need to be sure not to help ds with his multitude of eggs!

mum2toby · 22/04/2003 08:11

Hi folks!

I get my 2nd weigh in tomorrow. I was doing so well and then my dp brought home a Lindt Easter egg the size of my head! I had to have a wee nibble.

Then I had an Indian Takeaway!!!! Only ate half of it though. I figured that I stopped putting weight on a long time ago and have maintained my... ahem..... slight frame without trying to. So now that I am changing my eating habits SURELY I'll lose weight. Won't I??..... anybody?? .....help me convince myself.....please??

Meanmum · 22/04/2003 09:06

Hope you all went well over the long weekend. I did appallingly. I weighed myself this morning and actually put back on the 1kg I lost the week before as well as another. I didn't eat huge amounts of chocolate but the fish and chips and other bad foods during the week obviously contributed.

Aside from the fact I've actually put on weight rather than losing it I'm not disheartened and am back on the diet again today. I've got an exercise video I bought when my ds was about 3 months that has never been used and I am going to put that on tonight to help me shift what I gained.

Hope you all had a wonderful Easter and didn't indulge as much as I did. Congrats to all those that actually managed to lose weight.

mollymay · 22/04/2003 10:23

Morning everyone...well unlike some of you on this thread I managed to remain focused this weekend despite huge temptations...My dd still has several large easter eggs sitting in the top of our fridge (which I have to look at everytime I go to it!). We also went down to the seaside with my sister on Sunday and my dh stopped at nearly every burger bar/fast food joint eating his way round Clacton! But (I know I can't believe it myself) I resisted them all and had pasta and tomato sauce back at my sister's caravan....Shine that Halo Shine!!!! According to my scales I have lost at least a couple of pounds so am looking forward to my weigh in tomorrow...! Its amazing but I find when I diet I tend to get more done around the house as well cause I try not to sit around too much to stop myself thinking about food.. Weightwatchers do these little sweets which are only 1 point per packet and I really found they helped my cravings...For those who gave in to the devil called Chocolate over Easter... yesterday is history today is the start of the new positive, focused you!!! (god I'm sad aren't I)...

kayleigh · 23/04/2003 10:10

I too weighed myself this morning and have stayed the same. I'm actually quite pleased (pathetic isn't it) as I have eaten like a pig this weekend. But I have given myself a stern talking to and am completely back on the diet track today. I have 5 weeks to go till I am away on holiday and I HAVE to lose half a stone by then. I'm sure that is achievable ..isn't it ?

mollymay · 23/04/2003 10:22

well done kayleigh...its a relief when that happens isn't it...half a stone in 5 weeks is definitely achievable...they say 1-2 lbs per week is the best weight loss...I have my first weigh in after my 10stone shock last week. Feel quite positive that I will have lost something.!

dot1 · 23/04/2003 10:56

Hello!

Today is day 1 of my diet.... HELP!! I lost a couple of stone from September - December, but since then I've stopped - not put any back on, but not lost any.

But it's my brother-in-law's wedding in July, so the aim is to lose another 1.5 stones by then! (I could do with losing another 3, to be honest, but I don't think that's do-able).

Can't tell you how much I weigh - but it's a lot more than anyone else has posted on this thread! Still, I'm 2 stone less than I was in September..!

So, I'm drinking water (bleugh!) instead of my lovely milky sugary coffees, and having small portions, and NO MORE EASTER EGGS!!!!

mollymay · 23/04/2003 15:11

welcome dot1 and good luck!

Feeling a bit smug actually. Started weightwatchers last week. weighed in this week and I've lost six and a half pounds!! Even the leader was asking if I was wearing lighter clothing this week...To be honest I did have my p**d last week and I do bloat up a bit but still quietly chuffed...knowing how it works though I probably won't lose anything for the next four weeks!

mum2toby · 23/04/2003 15:14

..........getting weighed again tonight...

mollymay · 23/04/2003 15:15

mum2toby - good luck...
